Q: what is the biggest bowl gouge I can use on this jig

Brad, it just hit me what you are asking, the hole in the vari-grind 2 is slightly more than 3/4". Hope this helps. I assume you are buying it for a fingernail grind gouge. Instruction video from Oneway is poor. You might try you tube for better instruction in setting up the angle for grinding. Mike

The Vari-Grind 2 jig comes with an arm that inserts into the that base and that is all you need to use the jig. it is a self-contained unit. But you will need to buy the base first and I am not sure if you can buy the base alone or if you have to buy it either with a flat plate that you can use to grind plane blades and chisels or with a v-shaped base mounted at the end of an insertable arm for lathe tool. Oneway has a web site and that should answer most of your questions. They also have a lot on YouTube.

Yes. Everything you see it comes with. Works very well too.

Q: How do you attach it if it doesn't come with base to hold it?

You need to have boughten previously the basic wolverine base. See Oneway's website for example of it sat up. You can also make your own if you are inclined. Some professionals do that (Elsworth).
