Save time and effort prepping turkey or chicken.
These are very good quality. The price is a little high for what they are, but they get the job done well. I used them to spatchcock my turkey this thanksgiving. It cut right through easily; making the job a lot easier than past times when I've used a butcher knife. They seem well made and unlikely to rust. The fact that they can be disassembled for easy cleaning is a plus - just be careful not to accidentally open them too far and have them fall apart - the first time I did that I thought they were broken... but they were fine and went right back together easily. Overall I recommend these and I'm buying a second set as a gift for a family member.

Tough, heavy duty kitchen shears. Take apart for easy cleaning!
Tough, easy to clean sharp kitchen shears. The shears come apart for easy cleaning, they have a lot more cutting power than standard scissors. The serrated edge make sure things don’t try to slide out of the jaws. The handles are a little bit rubberized and have good grip. They’re big enough without being obnoxious. They seem to be substantial and well-made. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them, and at this point if they did break, I would buy them again, but the build quality leads me to believe I won’t be buying them again anytime soon.

Strongest Scissors I've ever owned.
These are my first Poultry Shears I've ever owned. Wow! They are incredible. I just cut up a Rotisserie Chicken and it effortlessly cut through bones effortlessly. They feel strong like a tool out of my toolbox, as well as the size was larger than normal scissors. The steel seems rust proof. These shears are comfortable to use, and you can cut with the tips of the shears and they still feel solid and strong. I feel the price was more than fair for the value of these shears. My only complaint is they are so strong, I fear I could cut off one of my fingers by accident if I'm not careful because these shears would definitely cut a finger in half with the slightest squeeze of the handle.

Efficient
These cooking shears make spatchcocking a chicken a breeze. The cut through chicken wings easily as well. Plus, they clean up easily. We're satisfied.

Huge improvement over my Fiskars kitchen shears!
(UPDATE: As another person stated, the spring on this is weak. After only a couple uses, it no longer springs the shears back open. With no finger hold on the top, there is no way to use your hand to pull it back to the open position. I'm very disappointed these didn't turn out to be what I was looking for...however, they're the best thing I have on hand (hehe! get it?) for prepping cat food, so I have continued using them. They aren't quite as sharp as they were at first, which makes sense after cutting many bones with them, but they still cut bones, and the tip is still sharp enough to keep chunking up the meat. I might buy another pair one of these days. So, they didn't completely meet the need I had, but they're the best shears I've found so far. They would be absolutely perfect for normal kitchen use, so I'm upgrading the rating.) I feed my cats raw meaty bones, but I like to cut them up into chunks so feeding time will go a little quicker. I've been using a pair of Fiskars kitchen shears, and they barely did the job, but that was all I had. I have liked the OXO brand for several other utensils, and saw others who feed raw had given a good review on these, so I decided it would be worth a try. Then my Fiskars handle broke, so I was extra anxious for this to arrive! Yesterday I opened the package as soon as it arrived, and I prepared 10 days worth of feedings. They seem solid, are definitely sharp, and I like that they come apart for washing, and they have a simple locking mechanism. They cut through small bones like it's nothing. I had to work around the larger bones, such as the chicken thighs, but I just wedged it into the notch, and laid the shears on the cutting board so I could push down harder with my palm. I also noticed at one point that they weren't closing all the way, so I couldn't cut with the sharp pointy tip. That would have been a game changer for me! Upon closer examination, I realized the little plastic lock had flipped, and it was keeping the handles from closing all the way. No big deal. I kept an eye on it from then on, making sure it stayed open. I read where one reviewer said the placement of the notch makes you have to open them to an unnatural position for anyone's hand, and I did notice this, but I just shoved them forward onto the bone and they opened up just fine. I wouldn't try to cut anything larger than fish or fowl. I'd love to have a grinder that would do the job, but they're way too pricey! At this price, I might order another pair to always have one ready to go! I've only used them once, so I'll report back in a few months and upgrade to 5 stars if they're still going strong.

Great product!
Bought these to use in cutting up chicken and turkey. They are very strong and do a great job of cutting right through bones. I should have bought these years ago! Excellent gift idea for cooks!

Great for heavy duty jobs
Works as expected, I was able to spatchcock a 23 lbs turkey with relative ease and the product held up. Easily comes apart for cleaning and just as easily put back together. Locking mechanism works but unsure how it would hold up to rough treatment over time and it's a relatively small plastic latch. Overall feels great in the hands like most oxo products and is at a price that I'm comfortable recommending to others.

These are really good scissors for cutting tough things. The main target is chicken bones, but they do well on other stuff you might hesitate to tackle with ordinary scissors. Your fingers go through the hole in the lower handle and your palm grips the upper handle against a spring. This means that you don't need to use your thumb to make a cut and you can use the whole strength of your hand. The two halves come apart for cleaning, so you don't need to worry about grunge and corrosion hiding inside the joint. When you put them together they fit precisely, so no wobbles or gaps between the blades. The only downside is that the cutting edge is only at the forward end of the blades: if you open them wide to cut cardboard like you would with normal scissors nothing happens. This design makes sense for poultry bones, but you need to keep it in mind for other stuff. We had a pair of these for many years. Eventually the spring broke, so now we've bought another pair. The spring is the only reason I gave it 4 stars for sturdiness; its clearly the weakest point in the design. But don't let that put you off; these scissors will still give you years of good service.

Excellent poultry scissors. I have been using them for 6 months now. They crunch through chicken carcasses and pork skin (great for cutting up the pork rind). You do need to keep them sharpened to keep cutting through the chicken skin. I found if i sharpen them every 5 or 6 chickens they are a dream to use. I use the following sharpener purchased from Amazon: "SHARPAL 191H Pocket Kitchen Chef Knife and Scissors Sharpener for Straight and Serrated Knives" If you don't keep them sharpened you will still crunch through bone but they will stop cutting the skin. it will also make you start to squeeze down on them harder, so keep them sharp and all good. Other reviews have said they are too big for there hands. I have extremely small hands (like a child) and i have no issues with them at all. That is because they self open, that's what the bendy metal thing is that you can see in between the handles. this makes a huge difference to the stress on your hands. I cut up about 30 chickens a month, not including the pork rinds which you really cant cut with anything else. so they have been well used by now. Other reviews have also said that the little red locking mechanism gets in there way while they try to cut. Lol. That is why the handle has a recess inside it (as shown in the photo attached) when you start to cut fold it inside and it won't bother you at all. Pull it back out to lock the scissors so they are safe to store away. The spring loading bar is awesome, it really saves your hands when you have a lot of chickens to cut. It springs the scissors back open for you. I will never buy poultry scissors without one as i have arthritis and it kills my hands without one. It is also better to have a bar than a coil spring as bars are easier to keep clean and hygienic. They split apart for thorough cleaning. Well worth the money and even at this price if i had to replace them in 12 months (which i don't think will happen, and if does i will alter this review) I still choose these for any replacement in the future If you have found my review useful could you please click the “Helpful” button below. It makes reviewing worthwhile. Thank you : )

I bought these poultry shears as a replacement with my Henckel shears that have been in use for over 10 years. I use them exclusively for cutting up whole fryer chickens for making cat food. I'd debated sticking with my previous brand but decided to give these a try based on reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The ergonomics are a little bit different from my old shears, so it took a few episodes for my hand muscles to get used to them, but now I love them. They cut cleanly through meat and thin bones/joints; and I love the fact that they can be taken apart to clean them rather than having a fixed spring that can get food embedded or rust. Very happy with my purchase and would recommend them to anyone considering this product.
