Horrible experience. Game would not work. Was not allowed to return the item to an Amazon location. Was told I would have to pay out my own money to mail the game overseas and then wait before I might get a refund.

Fatal Run is a late-era Atari 7800 title that surprises players by blending high-speed, vehicular combat with resource management and RPG-lite progression. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the player must race against time to deliver a radiation vaccine across 32 dangerous levels while being pursued by nefarious henchmen. Gameplay & Features: Unlike a typical arcade racer, Fatal Run is a "race against time" quest. The core loop involves driving between cities, eliminating enemy vehicles with guns, oil slicks, and missiles, and avoiding roadside obstacles. The most compelling aspect is the upgrade system: in the cities, you spend cash (earned by saving civilians) to repair and permanently upgrade your car's engine, armor, tires, and weapons. This sense of progression and customization gives the game a much-needed depth that differentiates it from simpler shooters like RoadBlasters. Crucially, the inclusion of a password system allows players to save their progress across the 32-stage journey, making the game accessible and manageable. Presentation & Verdict: Visually, the game shines in its detailed cut-scenes when entering and leaving cities, which showcase the 7800's graphical capabilities well. However, the driving graphics on the road itself can be bland and repetitive, and the controls are generally considered sluggish. While the sound design is basic, the depth of gameplay, the challenging pace, and the highly rewarding upgrade system make Fatal Run one of the most advanced and interesting titles on the Atari 7800. It's an essential pickup for collectors looking for a comprehensive experience beyond the standard arcade ports.
