It's contagious!
This hula hoop is awesome! Please don't be discouraged by negative reviews. I read almost every one of them before choosing my 2 lbs hoop.Yes, it hearts to hoop a little for the first few days, but wearing a sweater really helps. The first day I was able to exercise 20 min, the next day I couldn't exercise at all - it was painful. But it was a good feeling - like after a good deep tissue massage. Now I hoop w/o a sweater, I don't feel bumps anymore (I don't have excess fat on my tummy) and thinking of purchasing heavier hoop for myself.Hooping became contagious in my family of six. My skinny 14 yo son hoops, my daughters hoop, my husband tries to hoop several times a day and one of my girlfriends just bought the same hoop for herself. We all hoop while watching favorite TV programs.Yesterday I received a book with 50-min instructional DVD "Hooping - a revolutionary fitness program" by Christabel Zamor. I like the book and DVD - they give more ideas on hooping so it won't become boring over the time and exercises give a chance to burn more calories.Yes, and one more thing - putting the hoop together was pretty easy for me. My girlfriend asked me to help her with the last part though - I guess, I have more strength then her.

What more could I ask for?
I know that most of the reviews have said you will bruise. I was so stubborn and didn't want to admit I would but I did. I'm a small asian female. It was painful the first few times b/c you won't be use to it. This is made out of plastic NOT foam. Do not be mistaken like me. I did 5 mins on each side 2 times a week the first time. Oh man it was hell after that bc I had a small bruise on my waist. Gave myself time until the bruise healed and went right back to it and it worked! My body was used to it and it's really fun working out, it does not feel like a work out at all. Totally get it! It's cheap and so fun.

Good hoop. The waves don't particularly help, but aren't so bad either.
There seems to be a lot of unhappiness with the wavy aspect of this hoop. I found it felt a little strange at first, but I got used to it very quickly, and now actually like the way it feels. The weight of the hoop does help keep it up, which makes it easier for a beginner. My boyfriend even uses it every time he comes over. The price and durability is also a plus for me, as I work in the behavioral health field with kids. The kids are hard to motivate for exercise, but most of them love this. It's durable enough to stand their abusing it when they're upset, and cheap enough that I won't cry if they do eventually break it. I intend to buy a better quality hoop for myself in the future, when I get better at hooping, but have found this to be a great starter hoop and will keep it, too.

Great beginer's hoop!
I had a baby last summer and have lost all the weight, but I'm still working on toning up my midsection. I'd heard of hula hoop exercies and was skeptical so I decided to check into it. After doing some research online I decided what the heck, it's worth a try. I chose this hoop #1. for the price and #2. for the size. I have had it 2 weeks now and so far I am pleased. I read some reviews where people complained about bruising and being really sore, but I didn't have that problem at all. I followed the directions which stated to start at 1-3 minutes per day and gradually add more time so that's what I've done and it's worked great. The ridges do feel kind of odd at first, but they don't hurt. I am up to 6 minutes 2 times a day and when that 6 minutes is up I do feel like I've really worked my midsection, butt and thighs. I would definitely reccomend this hoop for beginers. I know it says it's a teen-size hoop, but I am 5'11" and 143lbs and it's the perfect size for me.I am anxious to see how long it takes for me to see results!

Wavy ridges are useless - not easy. Ouch!
I have just started hooping for weight loss and purchased this hoop. I was having trouble with the much more expensive fancy one I'd purchased, and thought that this one may be better to learn on. I was sold when it said that the wavy design made it "very easy to use." This is not true. I actually have a more difficult time with this one than the first one! I'm sore and bruised and those waves did not feel good on my ribs and hips. My advice: If you're determined to try the wavy hoop, get the one with the sponge padding. It may be easier on your body. I'm going back to my plain round hoop, even though I'm tearing up the tape job because I drop it too much. The price of his hoop was very cheap, and I received exactly what was pictured in the ad - the shop is up front about what they sell. The shipping was SUPER fast (2 days!) and it was very easy to put together. Though this specific product didn't work for me, I'm sure to buy from this store again... maybe a trim hoop next.In any case, I'm going to donate this one to the Y - maybe there's a gal out there who has some padding on her middle who won't get bruised up by the waves!!
