Quantum Storage Systems 1275-000-12 Shelving Unit, 12" D x 36" L x 75" H, Carbon Steel, Galvanized

After seeing the reviews for this product and for the shipper CEVA I was somewhat worried that this purchase wasn't going to go well. The package which consisted of 16 separate boxes strapped and shrink-wrapped together and on a pallet arrived undamaged, within specified time frame and Tracking along the way. The final leg was done by a smaller more local freight shipper Lohse Transfer. The delivery driver was friendly and helpful. So this review is to let others know it is possible to receive this product undamaged. The product itself for my purposes is great. Once assembled(which is an exercise in patience) and installed, it makes for a sturdy shelving unit with lots of high quality plastic bin storage.

Poor quality for the money, shelves were bent up and plastic on the bins is bowed already. Directions are poorly written and hard to follow.

I bought this as an alternative to the quick-assemble sort of storage shelves that fit tongues in slots and have masonite shelves--those are fine for some things, but I wanted something inexpensive but potentially sturdy for audio equipment, including a turntable. This is a little tougher to assemble than the masonite guys, but not very. Literal nuts and bolts come with it. I then bolted it to 2 x 2 crossbars that are themselves bolted to studs in the house frame. Yow. This thing is *rock solid* when fixed that way. One could climb on it and it would not move a micron in any direction (the shelves themselves have modest flex but do *not* register footfalls [for a turntable, e.g.]; the vertical pieces are solid). It could be functional with its stock X supports in light, shed storage, but it becomes *really* solid if fixed to something. Re-inventors could do could do all sorts of other retrofits with these, also involving wood in key places.

Pros: looks nice, makes efficient use of space because the bins fit together tightly, extra screws/nuts included Cons: Very slow shipping + Several shelves were crushed in shipment. Amazon cannot send replacements for damaged parts- have to arrange for shipper to pick up (another day lost off work) and then to ship an entire new assembly )and yet another day off work to wait for the shipper). Shelves are flimsy and the included braces, while absolute necessary, are insufficient to make the unit stable. Had to bolt unit to the wall to give it adequate stability. Screws/nuts are metric and difficult to install unless you have very small hands. Would have given higher marks if the shelves had been heavier gauge metal, had the nuts been keps type (attached lock-washers), and had they been easier to install. A final issue is the bins. Each has a nice molded slot for an identification card, but no such cards are provided. It would be helpful if the mfr provided a set of paper card for this purpose.

Overall am very satisfied with the product. One of the side rails came bent and scratched, so I think we might have gotten one that was used, but it didn’t say that in the listing. It was about half the price of some of the other sellers. We were able to use tools to straighten it back out. I don’t think it was supposed to, but ours came with a few extra bins, which was very handy. A little flimsy, but we won’t be using it for heavy items so Overall its good product for our uses. We may buy a second one also.

Other then the shipper bending the shelves to heck, the shelve is as advertised.

As others have stated the product is not strong shelf. I ordered 2 and after putting one together wanted to return the other. Amazon only sent 1 label for an item that came in 7 packages. Seller finally sent labels to return but subtracted the return shipping costs plus restocking fee which was never stated in the description. Very unprofessional as it was just ablot worth keeping this terrible shelf once all those fees were deducted.

The bins are open to view contents and can be stacked while in use.
