This cereal is very hard and crunchy. It reminds me of eating Fritos corn chips. I am using it to manage my diabetes numbers at breakfast, but I could also imagine it working for lunch. It's satisfying and filling when used with almond milk. I bought the four flavors to try them. I may switch to plain flavor. Although there's no added sugar, these four flavors are fairly sweet (munk fruit extract) tasting. About 1/4 cup works better than 1/2 cup for staying in range (for me) Also, a crunchy and filling snack when eaten with guacamole and tomato-based salsa (plain would be best, but with cinnamon was ok). Will be looking for other ideas to toss the plain version with: scrambled eggs, refried beans, melted cheese for a chip substitute. The plain flavor could add protein and crunch to soups and stews. Salads?

My hope for the purchase: I purchased this cereal hoping for a late night snack. Generally, I don’t need anything too sweet. I prefer to avoid processed sugar in most of my diet. Though, I’m not on any strict specific diet. I mention this to offer some insight into my palette. A little sweetness goes a long way with me (eg a flavorless latte is sweet enough for me in the morning). If you’re more used to vanilla syrup-style latte kind of sweet, scale back your expectations. For a snack like this, my priority hopes were: 1. Crunchy (to satisfy the late night need) 2. Sweet but not sugary (I don’t need a sugar high just before bed) 3. Not “unhealthy” (I won’t say “healthy”, because processed cereals aren’t healthy no matter how much you scale back the sugar. But I wanted something healthier than Cinnamon Toast Crunch) How I got to FOUR stars: 1. Flavor (up to 3 stars): 2/3 stars for flavor. You have to lower your expectations a bit when directly comparing to the sugar bomb general cereals. I don’t believe an avid Lucky Charms connoisseur would love this flavor. It certainly wouldn’t taste like anything if you took a bite/swig of something sweet just prior. Unfortunately, the subtle “sugar substitute-metallic-leafy aftertaste” is quite apparent after the pleasant initial flavor. I’m generally ok with this trade off. But it is more noticeable than some other “low sugar” products to do add small amounts of cane sugar to offset this aftertaste. 2. Options (up to 1 star): 1/1 stars for options. Good flavor variety to choose from. 3. Price (up to 2 stars): 1/2 stars for price. I realize the ingredients simply cost more than lucky charms (+1 star). But this price is excessive (-1 star). Perhaps it’s scalability and the manufacturer can lower price with added scale? To conclude, your review of this cereal will depend on your expectations (and sweetness palette) going in. Do not believe the hype that this “[tastes exactly like the big box sugary stuff].” It does not. But, if you just want a crunchy, relatively guilt-free snack and you’re willing to shell out the bucks, I think you might enjoy this. —- ***update*** I’m three bags in. Dropping this to three stars from four. It’s edible. But you really have to want it. To be willing to put up with the stevia aftertaste. I won’t be ordering again.

I tried Catalina Crunch cereal, sampling four flavors: Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Honey Graham, and Cinnamon Toast. I’ll give credit where it’s due: the cereal was crunchy as promised, and the nutrition profile is solid — lots of fiber, good protein content, and no sugar. That’s all great on paper. However, I was really hoping for more when it came to taste. There wasn’t anything technically wrong with the product, but the flavors were just… blah. Nothing stood out, nothing made me want to go back for another bite. I wanted something to spark my taste buds, and this just didn’t deliver. Unfortunately, this didn’t live up to the hype for me. I won’t be buying Catalina Crunch again.

It depends on who you ask in our family, but we've got mixed reviews on taste. My daughter and I both think they have a stale crunch and a weird aftertaste. We won't be eating them. My husband and my son both love them. Granted, they are the vegetarians who are trying to eat healthy and get more protein in their diet, so this works for them.
