Fluorescent Yellow Leak Detection Kit

Easy to use and does exactly what it advertises.

My video shows my first try using this fluorescent dye. My pool has a very slow leak from the spa into the pool. I'm convinced that the leak is through a grout line either below or between the single row of tiles that surround the top of the spa. The spa water drips through the stone wall separating it from the pool all night after the pump shuts off. The instructions on the dye bottle call for positioning the dispensing tip 1/2" from the suspected leak. Not knowing where the leak was, I held the tip maybe 6" above the water surface and dispensed a ribbon. The dye did not seem to disappear through a leak but I did see dye entering the pool below. I wasn't able to tell exactly where the leak was. This was obviously not the best way to dispense the dye. I'll try again by dispensing small quantities of dye near each vertical grout line, one at a time, until I can track down the leak. I have no doubt that I'll be able to locate my leak but it's small enough that it will take time. I like the ease with which I can see the dye in my pool and how it disperses slowly in calm water. As the description says, it does look fluorescent in daylight - like a yellow-green. The kit came with plenty of dye and two syringes with two different dispensing tips. I've been needing a syringe like this for years for precision dispensing of glue, but I couldn't find one. The bottom line: This is a nice leak detection kit at a good price.

This dye is very visible and easy to use. I found the leak in no time.

Five stars for the value, but after having leak detection come out two times in our four seasons it’s become clear that finding these little leaks is an art, best served by their ultrasound technology. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be trying, but water movement, and knowing exactly where to look is a major part of this. This time they let me get in and try to find the leak with the dye as they were finding them, and I still could not get the die to go into the small pinholes like they could…… because they identified the exact location of the hole with the ultrasound. I keep saying ultrasound, it is not ultrasound. It is simply gear that helps you hear the leak. Either way a five star purchase because I still like to check around my lights, my return jets and of course the skimmer here and there and it’s so darn affordable

The product itself is good (dye is highly visible and straight/angled tips help access), but it doesn't replace the skill and experience necessary for pool leak detection, particularly smaller leaks. Some trial and error will probably be required to properly apply and interpret results.

Such a positive way to find leaks. Used it today. Pool leak guy used to charge me $260 for a leak. This kit plus some pool epoxy and an hour and leak is fixed!

Arrived in plastic bag with leaking bottle, making it messy to start with. Syringe is a little hard to control. When you really need a tiny ribbon you can get a cloud that covers too much area. Other than that, it does work. Really should be half the price.
