Beautiful work book for beginning Sanskrit. Places for script practice.

I can read Devanagari, now it's time to learn to perfect writing the characters. This book is so useful, I have two copies: one to actually write in, and another to trace over the characters with a stylus for muscle memory. Fifteen years ago I tried to learn writing Sanskrit (of course I know some basic words that appear often in texts), but the only good Sanskrit book I could find at the time was Michael Coulson's original TEACH YOURSELF SANSKRIT. The print was small and the characters (especially the conjuncts) bled into one another. The CD-Rom had to be ordered online and was delivered from India. It did not work well in my new Dell computer. The NEW edition of Coulson's book is fabulous--is one of the most recommended books on learning Sanskrit, but that's more for learning grammar... THIS BOOK is ALL about learning to write the Devanagari alphasyllabary script (Sanskrit is technically not an alphabet). This book uses the same method myself and millions of American school children use(d) to learn to write their English A-B-Cs. Someone else posted a photo of the lessons. See what I mean? The simplicity is brilliant! I highly recommend anyone just learning to READ Devanagari script to purchase 108 SANSKRIT FLASHCARDS WITH CD by Nicolai Bachman, MA, in tandem with this book. The two of them together go perfect together. I cannot recommend these two items enough. After 28 years of reading Sanskrit texts in English transliteration and translations, it's such a wonderful feeling to chant and read aloud these timeless scriptures, epic poetry, etc. in Sanskrit. This book will take me further into my journey of writing in Sanskrit. Then back to Micheal Coulson's book and on to grammar.... I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Well made, easy to use

Excellent book. Just what I wanted and needed

Exactly what I needed for muscle memory. Makes it infinitely easier to learn the devanagari script, which I need to learn for both Sanskrit and to fully understand Pali. Perfect for what it is made for, know that it doesn't have any lessons or anything really, just how to make the nagari lettering and space to practice, but I just use a tip-less pen.

Parfait pour apprendre à lire grâce aux exemples de mots, il suffit de cacher la réponse avec son doigt et de vérifier après. Je n'ose pas écrire dedans tellement j'aime ce cahier du coup j'écris dans un autre cahier. L'ordre des traits est présent et tout est bien organisé niveau phonétique avec un tableau très rigoureux et agréablement bien présenté. Merci !
