Zones of Regulation Review: Great for work in school and clinician settings - While I am not an OT, I truly love being able to support children who come for outpatient therapy with this treatment. It is a very flexible manual where you can use specific parts or go through the whole manual to support children with autism. I usually use this treatment with children on the spectrum that are verbal and able to talk about concepts and reflect on ideas and examples given. It's a really great way to think about feelings and how they lead to actions that might affect others. A must have for clinicians working with school age children, wether that be in outpatient settings or in school. Review: This is the best book on regulations that I have ever seen!!! - This book makes it easy to teach and my son looks forward to our discussions every night!! As a parent I find it uses common sense approaches to teaching a person how to get in touch with their feelings, that the feelings are valid, then what to do with those feelings so that you don't loose control. The zones make sense and it teaches life skills. You can use it with elementary school age kids up to high school. An awesome aspect to this is that there is an APP that your child can play that goes along with the lessons. How great is this!! It solidifies everything. I have seen incredible growth in my son using the lessons in this book!!

Excellent self-regulation resource can assist children, therapists, teachers, and parents
In her book, The Zones of Regulation, the author, Leah M. Kuypers, explains why kids with self-regulation difficulties can benefit from targeted Sensory Integration strategies. The author provides a clear and accessible child-friendly color-coded system for adults and children to use when they collaborate for implementing the recommended strategies. In the book, Ms. Kuyper also includes many related helpful tools and resources. As a licensed pediatric occupational therapist with a specialty in Sensory Integration, I highly recommend this book!

Get this one! Totally worth it!
This is the best curriculum for self-regulation and coping skills that I know of! It combines the best parts of the five point scale and social behavior mapping (which are each referenced in their own chapters, where you could also insert parts of each of those strategies as needed) in its scope as well. The lessons can be modified to fit lower-functioning individuals fairly easily in my experience - just be ready to let each lesson take as many repetitions (and personalizations) and as much time as necessary and you are set!

BUY THIS. Don't walk, RUN!
Wow.wow.wow.wow. WOW. Ok now that I'm done saying wow, this book is just amazingly fantastic. It gave me a way to help my ten year old severely adhd son a way to create an internal structure inside of himself to regulate his behavior. He has made so much progress purchasing this it was well worth the money. A great companion to this is How Does Your Engine Run? It offers a bit more depth and this was loosely based upon it but I will say this is much more user friendly. The charts and hands on practical things included in this book are extremely helpful. I also have adhd and remember being young without that internal structure to guide me. Just like anything I've used its not a cure all or fix all, nothing is. But it has been a huge tool and part of his behavioral therapy. I'm so thankful for this!

Great emotional toolbox system
I purchased this system hoping to help my child learn cues and coping strategies in different emotional states. The book first covers the history and explanation of the system and the rest of the book is a syllabus for teaching it to a group or in a classroom setting, complete with worksheets and handouts. However, this system can easily be adapted for home. Because of this structure, it makes it more manageable versus other behavioral/social emotional resources with instruction that can be vague. If your child is a visual learner and likes following a schedule, then this is very helpful in introducing and learning the concepts as well as the obvious visuals of the Zones that they can refer to or be prompted with in understanding their emotional state.

Great tool for parents, teachers, and therapists
Bought this for a peds therapy clinic. Love that all the handouts are in a USB now instead of a CD!!! Super helpful and useful. This curriculum is great for kiddos that need help with self-awareness of emotions and self regulation.

A Must Have in a Special Education Classroom...
Great book to use to help your students get in touch with their feeling especially, in a special education classroom. Prior to the introduction of this book; I had my students watch the movie "Inside Out" which helped them to understand their feelings and emotions. Also, the book has a couple of extra lessons within lessons.

Zones of regulation is a fantastic tool for teaching children how to self regulate. I have used this in my work with children for the past 4 years and find it quite effective. The USB that accompanies it is full of great tools! This tool is most effective when used consistently across environments, such as at home and at school.

I am a special education technician in a school. We had a workshop on Zones. The book is full of instruction, lessons, and explanations of how to give students tools for self-regulation.

I have taken my time reading this text and I can see it should be in every teachers library. This needs to be part of every schools curriculum. I like the way the Author has considered differentiation of each teaching session and that it can be delivered to all ages. It builds upon the Alert programme and the 5 point scale. This system is a wholistic approach for emotional regulation and gives you a variety of calming, cognitive and sensory strategies. The resource comes with USB drive so you can reproduce its handouts. I would definitely recommend this for all schools but also for any keen parents out there.

Great easy to use with individual kids and teens with special needs both individually at home as well as their school environment. A must-have when using in conjunction with the «Social Thinking» programs by author Michelle-Garcia-Winner
