In fact, I loved it so much that I recently revisited the story as an audiobook. This captivating novel delivers on all the classic tropes I adore, including enemies-to-lovers, small-town charm, age-gap romance, and the allure of a rockstar lifestyle. Hayes, is a rockstar who leads a life on the road, shrouded in loneliness and isolation. He employs every tactic at his disposal to avoid feeling and building meaningful connections with others. Despite his turbulent inner world, Hayes exudes a captivating charm, with his alluring persona and seductive dirty talk. He is a walking embodiment of sin and sexuality, evoking a powerful allure wherever he goes. Hattie's life spirals out of control after the tragic passing of her sister and failing her final semester of graduate school. In an effort to heal, she decides to return to her family's hometown of Almond Bay. However, her fresh start becomes complicated when she is coerced into taking a job with Hayes, a renowned musician and the sworn enemy of her brother. As Hattie struggles to adjust to her new life and reconcile with her estranged siblings, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to Hayes, the one person she is supposed to hate. In this heart-wrenching tale, Hattie must confront her deepest fears and desires as she navigates the tangled web of family, love, and betrayal. "The Way I Hate Him," delivers everything I've come to expect from Meghan Quinn’s writing - sharp banter, steamy romance, and laugh-out-loud humor. The spice in chapter 20 was off-the-charts hot🔥🥵! Yet, this book offers something more - a heartfelt and emotional storyline that struck a chord with me. The evolution of Hattie and Hayes's relationship was a highlight, as their journey from enemies to friends to something more was both sweet and endearing. I also found myself invested in the well-crafted cast of secondary characters, and I'm eagerly anticipating the upcoming books featuring Hattie's siblings. The audiobook, narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Vanessa Edwin, is top-notch, bringing the characters to life with humor and emotion. The duet format adds an extra layer of authenticity, making this a must-read for Quinn fans and anyone who loves a mix of sweet and steamy romance. Review: A decent enemies to lovers romance - This was a decent read. Multiple tropes throughout: enemies to lovers, rock star, age gap, brother's ex best friend, and small town romance. We also get major trust issues, abandonment, and major losses of family. We have Hayes, a 32 yr old burnt out rock star, and Hattie, a 24 yr old failing college student. They both return home to Almond Bay, a small coastal California town. Hayes is home cause his grandmother broke her hip. Hattie is home because she failed her semester midterms due to the recent death of her sister. Hattie thinks she's going to stay with her boyfriend Matt, but he ends up dumping her because she's all money and boring. While gathering her belongings, she finds many items that don't belong to Matt but belong to his boss, Hayes. Hayes is the family enemy due to falling out with her brother years before. She decides to return these items. Hayes blackmail her into working for him. Things lead to feelings. But, due to trust and abandonment issues, troubles ensue. I'm only giving 4 stars due to some issues. Hayes is rude and mean one minute, then nice as can be. He loves Hattie but doesn't trust her because others have abandoned him in the past. Storyline doesn't flow well, jumps around. Side characters were awesome and need more with them. Aubree was a little too gruff. Could have had more interactions with the ex-boyfriend. He breaks up with her, steals from him, then disappears but then somehow ends up trying to blackmail with help from Hayes's mother. That part needed a little more build up, then all of a sudden, it's over.

My favorite Meghan book yet!
I honestly don't even know where to begin without totally gushing over this book. It literally brings out ALL the feels. There is typical Meghan humor - like serious laugh out loud moments, along with the steam, the angst and the emotional heartstring tugging. Hattie has so much going on in her life right now. The youngest of 4, she returns to her hometown of Almond Bay (a place I would totally live in if it were real!) and bumps into her families mortal enemy: her brothers ex-best friend Hayes Farrow. What ensues next is blackmail, sarcasm and a whole lot of sexual tension! I love these two so much. They are both a bit broken in their own way, both dealing with types of grief. They bring out the best in each other and help each other heal. The supporting cast of characters complete this book, especially Mac and Gran. You'll understand when you read it. This is the first book of a new series, and I already know that when its complete, I'm going to have a hard time leaving Almond Bay behind. This is my absolute favorite book of Meghan's (so far) and I cant wait to see who she brings us next.

5 stars except….Spoilers
Thought this book was fabulous for 75%. Just when I thought it was about to be wrapped up, I realized there was another 100 pages to go and knew it was going to have the cliche 3rd act breakup. This plot device is so unnecessary, especially in an enemies to lovers book. I would have rated this 5 stars if not for the 3rd act breakup. They already had a minor breakup, and there was so much angst at the beginning of their relationship that a big breakup was not necessary for any drama. It would have been great if they could have communicated their way through all of that drama with his mom. I did feel like I wanted more interactions with the townsfolk, especially considering how much emphasis was placed on the Peaches in the opening of the book. I laughed out loud, to tears at times, through a lot of this book. I even cried several times about things dealing with Cassidy. Would have been a 5 star book if not for that annoying breakup.

Communication is the key 🔑.

Loved this book, I've read many of meghan quinn books, I don't know how she does it but she has the ability to make your heart swoon, break it, put it back together, along with making you cry but laugh out loud so hard, I swear a few times reading this had me laughing so bad my husband thought i was losing the plot, I read a part where she Referenced pigeons, and I remembered in another one of her books that one of the characters was drunk and upset about his life and what was happening, he felt bad for the pigeons such a funny lol moment, so he was going to donate, so that part gave me a bit of nostalgia which I loved, I will be moving on to another meghan quinn book now,I have quite a few in my tbr that I haven't gotten too, thats how much of a pull her book have, back to this one, the characters were amazing, I connected with them from the start, Hattie has me laughing so much her character was pure gold, an Hayes phew what can I say so swoon worthy, plenty of spice but not too much where you think really..... just enough after alot of temptation.... so 5stars from me.

5/5 🌟 🌶️ 3.5/5 Over the past years, my stance on romantic comedy has changed so much, to a point where I run away at the mention of it. But, The Way I Hate Him is an exception to this rule! Why you may ask? - Small town - Age gap - Rockstar romance - Enemies to lovers - Ex-boyfriend’s boss - Brother’s enemy - Boss x employee Now do I needed more reasons? Nope. I was already sold on rockstar romance. “She’s made me realize what a heartbeat feels like again. A pulse. She’s made me breathe. Lifted my chin. Opened my eyes to the world around me when I’d done nothing but kept my head down since the moment my mom abandoned me.” The Way I Hate Him is a delicious mix of comedy, romance and everything in between. And I am going to say it, Hayes Farrow is officially my new favourite male character. And I don’t think I’ll ever recover from this book. It was emotional, sexy, and such a good time. Hattie’s grief over the loss of her sister (who was also a mother figure) was so raw, I could feel it. And the way Meghan incorporated scenes with so much emotional depth in the otherwise humorous narrative of the book, made the whole reading experience extraordinary. The chemistry between Hayes and Hattie was sizzling hot. The banter, the teasing and the spice! The spice, people! When I say you are going to learn a thing or two, trust me on this. Loved every second of this book, even though I was not a fan of the third act breakup, I still loved it, taking it as a necessity. Before I end this review, I’d be a God damn bad person if I don’t mention Maggie. “Maggie: Well, depends. You can show him how much you hate him by taking your shoe off and throwing it at him.” Yeah, so we need Maggie. More importantly, we need Maggie and Ryland! I also can’t end this without talking about Gran and the flower scene. Nope 😁 I recommend this book to each and everyone of you. Read it. Read it. Read it!
