Steering Wheel Tray

I was on the fence between 4 and 5 stars, but when reviewing something very good that appears to be superior to its competitors, I round up. I'll address the CONs below the PROs. When gadgets include "extras," they typically don't do much other than add clutter to your life. Not so with Bold Route's steering wheel tray. The various storage compartments and reusable trash pouch are genuinely useful add-ons. PRO: -- Sturdy canvas case with a leather platform surface reinforced to hold a 5-10 lb laptop without drooping -- Adjustable straps for making it taut. Set them once and you're good to go. -- Well-stitched compartments for pens, note pads, phone, drink, etc. -- Great for eating on the road (while parked!) -- Fabric steering wheel pouch has enough give and support to slip securely over back of wheel without scratching it or slipping. (See photo) -- Enough surface area for a laptop 10" deep. -- Trash pouch is ingenious. It's puckered on top and wide enough to stick a hand inside and deep enough to hold most "carbage." Easy to empty and clean. -- For use behind the front seats, it allows for even more breathing room. CON: -- The zipper is difficult! It's a pain to dislodge the zippers from their fully unzipped positions. The zipper is very high quality, but the teeth curve in a way when the case is closed that makes it difficult to release EVERY TIME. I recommend just closing the case and using the case's velcro handle to keep it shut. -- You will need to move your seat back as far as it can go to and possibly lower your steering wheel height (and probably tilt back a bit as well) to comfortably use a keyboard. If you are an especially large person, it may not work for typing. (I'm sure this is true with other mobile offices aside from ones that slant down along the face of the steering wheel with a ledge for tablets. This unit is designed mostly for laptops. And lunch.) I really dig this thing. It's portable, sturdy, and between compartments and the trash pouch, it has just about all bases covered.

I bought this to be able to comfortably use my laptop in the truck while on a job site, and that's exactly what this product allowed me to do. This gives me the ability to work in a cool air conditioned truck when out on a construction site on a steamy summer day. I usually put my laptop on the console, but I don't like having to keep my body twisted up to type an email or send out a field report. This tray gave me the ability to be comfortable and efficient. I have also used it for my iPad Pro and it works great. The support for my heavy laptop is good, the tray doesn't sag or bend. The tray folds up and zips to be less than the size of the standard padfolio, so can fit in the back of a seat of between a seat and the console. Also great for being able to eat in a vehicle, giving you ample flat space to spread out a meal. I would recommend this product for anyone who spends time in their vehicles for work or wants to give themselves a level work surface in between trips.

Best for laptop when on the road.

I’m a big fan of multi-functionality in a product. I didn’t know I needed this until I saw it, and boy am I glad I got it! I finally have a safe place to store my laptop when not in use, and a safe transport of it to the car where I often find myself working in between clients as I travel from job to job. I’m often eating lunch in the car too so having a mini dining table in front of me is sooo much better than eating out of my lap. It’s very sturdy, has many handy compartments and wipes clean easily. I highly recommend this if you’re on the fence. It’s a good value product, and a great gift idea too!

Quality: **** High quality design and manufacture. I only wish the material was thicker- The (probably cardboard from the feel of it) reinforced tray is flimsy, and would've been more durable had it been made of hard plastic. Other than that, I like this tray, and love that it can either slip over your steering wheel (while parked, of course!) or strapped around one of the front headrests as a tray in the back seat. Durability: **** Moderately durable. Material could have been thicker. I believe this won't last as long as it would, because of the heavy use that I am sure it will be going through. Ease of Use: **** Pretty simple to either use the pocket on the back to slip over the steering wheel up front, or, if you're using it in the back seat, to strap it around one of the front seat headrests. I don't like that it is very hard to zip back up, or that it slouches when it is strapped at the base of my headrests. It does come with a ton of super-handy pockets inside and one zipper pocket outside, and even comes with a little detachable trash bag which has an elastic top to keep everything inside, and also a velcro opening at the bottom for easy trash removal. Look: ***** Slim, and easy to store. Blends well with black interiors. Color: ***** Black Material: **** Heavy-duty canvas, kind of flimsy reinforcement within both sides. Size: ***** Tray is 16.3" Long, 11.5" Wide, and 1.5" Thick. Trash bag is 12" Long, with an opening at the top measuring 5" Across Weight: **** Lightweight. Kind of flimsy. 1 1/2 Pounds.
