EVIL DEAD RISE marks the return to the iconic horror franchise, written and directed by Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground). The film stars Lily Sullivan (I Met a Girl, Barkskins), Alyssa Sutherland (New Gold Mountain, Vikings), Morgan Davies (The End, Storm Boy), Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence) and introducing Nell Fisher (Northspur). Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, EVIL DEAD RISE tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sullivan and Sutherland, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.EVIL DEAD RISE is produced by long time franchise producer Rob Tapert (Ash vs Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) and executive produced by series creator and horror icon Sam Raimi and cult legend and “Ash” himself, Bruce Campbell.Extras:Exclusive audio commentary with director Lee Cronin Lee Cronin's short film Ghost Train Review: Weird, Just.......Weird - Not for the squeamish. A bit tongue n cheek & rather well done Review: A Modern Cult Classic - This is, by far, the most scariest and most entertaining new Horror Movie. It is more frightening than Terrifier and I want to stand and applaud and salute the all-female cast. I felt so sorry and sad for the first victim, namely the elder of the two sisters. The entire movie is full of good scenes. I love the beginning when the first possessed begins to quote Wuthering Heights and comes out to take over the others' souls. I also loved when the eldest sister comes back from the lift and tries to get back to normal, and enters the kitchen and smashes eggs into the pan and flies out of the bathtub onto the ceiling and crawls around on and the walls. I love when the family merge into one. It is the Evil Book of the Undead that is playing, through the chants on the record. For me, the best performance goes to the eldest sister. I really cry for her because she is the mother of those children and she even says as she enters, in whispers, "It...it's not me." but is overpowered and how the younger sister tries to bring her back and cries for her. A true loving family wrecked by those evil dead spirits. The best Horror Film I have ever seen in my life. I have my own book coming out this Halloween and now feel so proud to have written stories like this particular one.

Good, but not as good as the previous one
Everything is great about this movie but it somehow fails to be as amazing as the previous one. I can not fault the acting, cinematography, sound, direction or anything, but.. it's like they tried a bit to hard to out shock the previous movie with stunts like more blood. They need to look at what subtle horror can be, The Blair Witch Project and the VVITCH are examples of how less is more.

Great movie, high on shocks and gore!!
Great addition to the deadite franchise. I do like the fact that its a 18, (so few horror movies are these days). It does really deliver on the gore and scares. It also has some new and interesting ideas. I loved the 2013 remake and although this isn't as good, its a worthy addition to the canon. I think the setting in the high rise creates a creepy claustrophobia and there are only really four characters throught the whole movie. I would watch again.

Underwhelming
I've personally been a fan of the Evil Dead for close to 30 years, watching all the movies, reading the graphic novel, playing the video games, and had high hopes for this latest installment, but I am disappointed to say it really didn't live up to expectations. I had no problem with the location changing from the traditional cabin in the woods to a run down high rise building, movie franchises need freshening up, but this movie had none of the energy it's predecessors possessed. This was a much more slow burn horror movie, focused on a broken and slightly dysfunctional family, a point that the writer/director really went all out of shoving to the fore above all else, and relegating what should have been the focus, the battle against the unleashed evil, to a mere secondary vehicle to push that narrative. What little action there was involving the Deadites was well done, the effects are good and there is some genuinely bloody moments, but for the most part of the 90 mins run time nothing is happening. I found myself getting bored and wishing that Ash would show up and add some life into proceedings, which of course was never going to happen. It's one of these middling horror movies, that seems to want to tell a story that doesn't really work in the Evil Dead franchise given what came before it. Worth a watch if you're into more slow build horror, but certainly not going to become a classic.

The Creepiest Steelbook in my collection and I LOVE IT!
The artwork is menacingly perfect, you get the feeling that you're in for a horrifying watch before you even get to the disc and the cover is quite literally luring and daring you to open it! The inner artwork is also great along with the back, a minor detail that I feel I should mention is that only the 4K is Region Free while the blu ray is Region B locked. Most are getting this set for the 4K but if you intend on largely using both discs, then this is something to be aware of. Other than that, this is currently the definitive set for Evil Dead Rise and a must have for Evil Dead Collector's.

It's still a 5 star horror movie for me personally, and I love it, but it doesn't feel like an Evil Dead movie. It's not that it doesn't take place at the cabin because neither did Army of Darkness and that's definitely an Evil Dead movie. It's not the lack of gore, demonic possession, or body horror either, because they're all present and executed wonderfully. But I think I figured it out. It's the weakness of the taunts from the Deadites. Sure, they're still personal and meant to be hurtful, but they're not absolutely vile like the taunts in the rest of the movies in the franchise. It's probably because they decided to use child actors. The kids did a great job, but I can see from a writing perspective how you probably wouldn't want to tell a child that their mother is being ra**d in hell, even if it is all make-believe. But even with the heavily toned down dialogue, there's a lot to love about this movie. Plus, the ending opens the door for the continuation of the franchise and that makes me happy. It's nice to see modern remakes of a beloved franchise that don't make a mockery of the originals, something that's very rare these days.
