Good detailed book
I bought this book for my son who is undertaking a level 3 welding course and it has proved to be a good additional support for the course. It is quite detailed and is leaning towards fabrication. My son would have liked a bit more detail about the welding process, but it is proving useful and a good guide for the course and for future progress.

Detailed in places less so in others. ..
I bought this to brush up mostly and while the information in the book is upto-date and comprehensive I found that some areas where far more comprehensive than others.A great deal of effort was given to writing the very minutia of twist drills and their application including going through every machine that uses them from simple drill presses to radial drills. Then the cutting angles, clearances, feeds, speeds etc etc. Great stuff to be fair. This was in the material removal section.I've worked in a few machine shops, drills are very important. However two machines that don't even feature in the book titled "Welding and Fabrication" are the mill and the lathe. Which one would think would at least get a passing glance in the "Material Removal" section . . but we get a whole page on how to use a ball-pein hammer. No seriously, how to hold it even . . if you're at NVQ Lvl2 and you don't know how to hold hammer maybe Engineering isn't in your stars. In the same vein TIG and MIG welding get a passing look in the "Welding" section. By passing look, I mean one paragraph each. Quite literally about 200 words a piece. While I don't expect a treatise on TIG or MIG or the nuances of the milling machine I feel some areas of the book could have been more concise or even omitted for inclusion of more relevant machines and practises. I understand however that this is a mighty broad subject to lump into one tome and at the risk of becoming very cumbersome things had to be left out or shortened I just feel that the book and it's contents could have been planned better.

A great book for anyone interested in metal working and welding.
I have to say I was very impressed with this book, although I have worked in this field for over 20 years there are still things in here that I didn't know, or had forgotten, you never stop learning in this game nor should you. I would highly recommend it.

A must for any welder whether doing it in college as its an excellent guide in helping you answer those tricky questions throughout your course especially in the third year. Highly recommend for both student or time served welders.

good reference for someone starting out in this job
good reference for someone starting out in this job, aimed firmly at the apprentice but also of use for reference for others who maybe don't do a lot of some aspects of the job very much
