When it works it’s a great product
I had a lot of random drop out issues to a point where using it became more of a problem. Now I changed the locations a bit and it seems to be better, no dropping so far.

I have read a few of these initial negative reviews, mainly due to unique setup and fine tuning necessary to get everything working in sync. But wow. Once this system has been properly setup, is placed in areas without wireless interference, in a room properly balanced through its automated technology......no words. My entire adult life I have been looking for a simple, affordable (comparatively) sound system that delivered at every frequency with ease. This is it. I have been stunned with its sonic clarity no matter the content, but ATMOS for the first time feels atmospheric with this system, and I have a VERY complicated room with vaulted ceilings, odd angles, a kitchen, and other complexities that must be difficult to solve for. No issue. Once I solved the "cut out" issue by optimizing the frequency through a bit of trial and error I have simply just put Apple Music on, with lossless Dolby Atmos recordings like On the Nature of Daylight by Orchestra of the Swan & Daniele Rosina, turned up the volume, and simply soaked in a sea of beauty. This is not hyperbole. 25 years of searching through a multitude of systems, from Denon to Bose to Samsung, to Harmon Kardon, to Polk and Klipsch, Definitive Technology and more. This is it. Thank you Sony for such a gift. Well, well done.

I have gone back and forth several times on my feelings on this system. When I first took it out of the box, I felt like it was the best sound that I have ever heard from a surround system. It was super simple to set up. Then I played with it a bit and felt like it lacked bass.l, even with the SW5 sub. Then it started having little connection issues and dropping out for a fraction of a second or worse stuttering for multiple seconds. Plus, I felt like it just wouldn't get loud enough. I was ready to take it back but then I read some other reviews and watched some YouTube videos with people singing this system's praises. Still, I had the order queued up for return and was going to do it today, but then I called Sony because a full surround sound system would take up much more room and be way more complicated to set up and based on the reviews, it would cost at least as much or a lot more for similar sound quality. The help desk told me to try putting my sub in the corner. Holy crap, what a difference. Literally moving the sun 3 feet further away and putting in a corner is a whole different world. Probably 3X or more bass feeling. Then I moved it to another corner and faced the front directly toward the side of the couch. That felt like it 2-3Xed the bass again! I played with some more settings and now it's got all the bass and volume I need and then some. No, it's not as loud as a traditional system, but definitely enough for a small to mid-sized room. I'm still having connection issues throug. I did all of the recommended troubleshooting things, including moving my mesh node to another room, but I still get sound skips. I have to say that this system holds it's own against systems that cost twice as much, and absolutely crushes some of them. The skips completely throw me out of the immersion though and ruin the experience. If Sony figures out how to fix the connection with software, I would 100% recommend the system. Until then, I would advise you to pass. Also, I don't advise buying it with the potential of returning it. It sounds too good and you might end up as torn as I am.

I have an AV receiver and still wanted to avoid running wires for my surround sound so I gave this a try. After a lot of diligence. I must say, the audio quality is amazing. However, even with the upgraded Sony subwoofer, the low end is quite lacking. Very lacking actually! The calibration process is as easy as it gets. Something that Sony has consistently led on. I really like the style of these units, and outside of some initial dropouts, I really haven't had any issues with it. However, one of the main deal breakers to me was the fact that it did not possess 120Hz 4K through via its hub. That means that if you were planning on playing any console gaming, you will drastically sacrifice graphical performance for this. Really a shame that they are forcing you to utilize their hub but won't provide you with the latest technology in it. Something like this is ideal for renters who live in apartments that are lacking wiring and want to take their audio with them as they move around. If you own your place, invest a little bit on the wiring and don't look back. Wireless technology is getting there, but we are still some years out. Also, have you receivers are now integrating with some of these wireless systems which will make such system obsolete.

I love this thing. This is the best purchase I’ve made in years. I can’t imagine having any other sound system at this price. It’s barely had any issues or whatsoever. I have tons of electronics in my room and sometimes it’ll kind of disconnect a little bit, but not even one percent of the time. Not even 0.1%. This is an awesome speaker system you can hear things behind you going left and right and it’s really amazing

The speakers sound very clear and crisp. Has great sound for movies. Music with the system is just okay, could definitely be better. The real issue is the bass. I have the large sub S5, and it just isn’t enough. This system should be paired with a 10 inch sub or 12 inch. Or have the ability to connect 2 subs. The bass is underwhelming. I do have a open living room that leads into the kitchen which I believe this system is not built for. For the price it definitely needs more. Still a good system but not a Great one. Update: unfortunately I have to return the Sony system. The connectivity became a large issue over the days, plus the bass not being enough is big for me. I have vaulted ceilings with a large open area to the left of the tv and the Sony system did not do well. The connection problem became a huge issue when I sat in my living room for 40 minutes turning off and on the RF signal so that I could get all 4 speakers to connect correctly. Hopefully Sony’s gen 2 of this system will be better but for now Gen 1 doesn’t work. (Photos of my space are attached)
