Back to the Lab: Hip Hop Home Studios

Raph did a better job with the photography in this edition. You feel the mood of each studio with the way the shots were done. It's cool knowing which producers were more obsessed with a keyboard workstation, sampler, or computer as their main composition tool. If you constantly are switching between gear you will have a better idea of how to keep everything under control like your favorite producer. It's also nice knowing that no matter how big the studio is most of your favorite producers are so close to their main pieces of gear physically that the big rooms are there for mixing. I would recommend this book if you're into making beats

Excellent follow up to Behind the Beat. Good photo journalism. It makes me laugh to see YouTubers talk about using the latest and greatest gizmos, widgets and what-nots in a clean studio. These studios are messy, grimy and eclectic. As any real artist would be. Great for reading between the lines about producers and their gear set-ups.

Great detailed photos! Raph Rashid did a great job on this one, just as he did the first book. I'm hoping he does a part 3 with some other great producers (Rashid Hadee, Black Milk, Statik Selektah, Ayatollah, Duke Westlake, Kankick). Must have for the coffee table!

I love this book. if you are really interested in producing and hip hop studios, you can dive in this book for hours.. just looking at the great fotos and dreaming and getting inspired!
