Yes you could. Its a shame as it fixes well to fridge using its magnetic qualities. Magnets stick to it but not as strongly as to fridge surface. It is perfect for whiteboard pen writing.

I think most sharpies are 'permanent' - although I have done no extensive research (ok browsed the web a little!) I dont know if there are markerboard sharpies (dry marker is another name).

It's not magnetic on the white side. It is black on the back which is the magnetic side. I love mine, very useful.

I've never tried this, but the magnetic sheets are made of plastic, so I imagine the heat from the BBQ would cause them to melt.
