Shaves Wood like a Knife through Butter
I needed a tool to shave off a few millimetres of wood from the top of my back door, which had been jamming against the upper frame for a few years. Before purchasing this rasp, I tried using a metal file, drill attachments (including flap wheel sandpaper), various grinding heads, and even a brand-new surform from a well-known brand, all with minimal success. It felt like attempting to trim the edge of a steel girder with a nail file. Then I found this… It arrived the day after I ordered it, packaged simply. Upon opening it, I noticed the unique cross-pattern structure, resembling several hacksaw blades crossing each other diagonally. One side has smaller teeth than the other, providing the option to use either a rough or a smoother side based on the job at hand. I tested it on the top of my wooden door and quickly realised this tool was a game changer. The wood removal speed using the rough side first was instantly impressive. Sawdust was coming off what felt like ten times faster than with the previous tools. It felt like a knife slicing through butter—completely different from the earlier attempts. I had almost removed enough material from the top of the door, so I switched to the smoother side to finish off. For the first time in years, the door cleared the frame easily. It was pleasing to finally have a tool that performed with the efficiency I had hoped for. All good so far. Pros: • Well-made, solid and strong build quality; expect it to last for many years. • Features a rough side and a smoother side for different needs. • Good size; larger than your average metal file. • Easy grip with a comfortable handle. Cons: • Significantly more expensive than basic rasps and files. • Does not come with a storage or carrying case. • Only has a handle at one end. Overall, I highly recommend this rasp to anyone needing to shave, trim, or smooth wood. You really get what you pay for, and I think the price is value for money in this case, not just for completing one task, but as a sound investment for future use, so I have no hesitation in giving it five stars. I hope this review was helpful

Shinto Rasp File
I received this rasp file today. (March 20, 2025). I don't yet know how well it will work for me. However, it looks to be both a beast is a beautifully made piece of kit. I am an amateur who makes things from salvaged wood, (pallets and skip-diving etc.). This file looks like the tool I need to get into places where I can't go with a planer, (or don't want to risk wrecking the blade on one). Getting the first fix on a project is often a bit tricky with random timber. (Carving-off a warped edge etc.). The tool comes with instructions on how to use it. (..what to do and what to avoid). They are very clear, (I would imagine), to all the people who understand Japanese. I don't...But it still looks like a nice tool. Best Wishes and Good Luck, Pat Update...A month on... and this is a very nice rasp tool. For me, it gets rid of the mis-match of edges a lot quicker than any other rasp I've used. I think it is well worth the £20 (roughly) it cost. The teeth on both sides (3mm and 1mm) are very sharp so wearing gloves is a good idea. The tool is highly recommended. Best Wishes. Pat

Perfect rasp for carving, smoothing and cutting out material
An amazing and I’d say essential tool for anyone into woodworking. The rasp is double sided, so you can use the coarse side to remove material and then flip it over to use the finer teeth to smooth it out. The result is an almost finished surface, smooth enough not to sand if done well. It’s relatively easy to use, but I had to get online to see how it was done properly. Unless you’re familiar with a Japanese rasp, it may not be obvious. Very cheap for what it is and it will last a long time. Perfect size to put in your tool box. Works well on timber battens, for carving and many other things. I just wish the handle was wooden and there was a way to attach another handle on the other end, as it’s a two handed tool, if used properly.

Really good product
Great rasp file however when it says "L" for large, what they mean is the blade is just short of 11inches long so bear this in mind. The handle is great and soft and sits nicely in the hand and the rasp itself has fine grate side and coarse the other so quite versatile as well. For the money, not bad at all - if you're a hobbyist like me then it's perfect but the serious carpenter will want something much better quality.

Very effective
Excellent at removing stock. Fast and efficient. The next version should have a grip at the far end. Still 5 stars.

A brilliant tool
Why did you choose this product over others?: I chose this product because of the very positive reviews and it looked like the tool I needed to shave the bottom of a door which was sticcking due to swelling from the heat Build quality: It is well made, incredibly sharp and very easy to use. It is a brilliant tool and the person or team who designed it need a medal. Value for money: By comparison it is expensive but well woth the money.

An economical but high quality saw rasp, made in Japan and comfortable to use. The advantage of the design of this saw rasp being the perforations which means it will never clog up and cutting.

Topper as expected, worth the money 👍

A grosa é sensacional.
