Trouble is brewing in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. For the driven inhabitants of this visionary world, control of Westeros' Iron Throne holds the lure of great power. But in a land where the seasons can last a lifetime, winter is coming...and beyond the Great Wall that protects them, an ancient evil has returned. Based on the bestselling book series 'A Song of Ice and Fire' by George R.R. Martin comes this epic HBO drama series set in a fantastic realm where noble families engage in a deadly fight for control. Review: Impressive Blu-ray set with MANY bonus features! - Game of Thrones Blu-ray set I purchased this set to replace my Season 1-6 and Season 7 and Season 8 DVD sets. In what follows please accept my apology if I have recalled something incorrectly. I found the set excellent and worth the price of admission, but I’d like to describe some “interesting” features of the set. Realize that it is a huge set that includes 33 discs. When my set arrived I found that at least one-third (yes, about a dozen) of the discs were loose in their cases. I don’t know if this occurrence is a comment on the less secure Blu-ray cases (to me, they seem less so than DVD cases), a poor packaging for shipping job, or unusually rough handling during shipping. One corner of the slipcase cover was slightly “accordioned” but not very noticeable. All discs looked fine on inspection and all episodes (I viewed them all) plus all features (that I have viewed this far) have played without error. Obviously the video and audio quality far exceeds the DVD set that I have and that alone (plus having all eight seasons in one enclosed package) was worth the purchase. But read on, if you wish… The weirwood tree animation at boot up of each disc is cute though it sometimes doesn’t get a chance to actually animate each time (your mileage may vary depending on your equipment.) But the momentary static “languages available” image at the start of each disc seems a bit unnecessary and maybe even a little irritating, but perhaps some may need it. Drop down “house banner” menus are neat but they are translucent and so is the text on them so they are not easy to read over the moving video montage that is presented behind them. Also, not a big deal, but they retract after 60 seconds if not acted upon. Of course, you can open a banner again, but don’t be surprised if it disappears after you return from grabbing refreshment. All the original DVD extra bonus features provided are present along with several new features. Most are indeed “behind the scenes” video features, but some are text and still animation images, some are voiced-over by the characters (not sure these were provided by the actors or not) and some are just text you walk through and read. Nice extras but not as good as the bonus video features provided. The extra 3-disc bonus set is excellent with a two-part “Game of Thrones Reunion” feature, Anatomy of a Scene” (for Seasons 4,5,6,7), “Behind the Scenes” (for Seasons 1, 2, 4, 5), “Inside the Visual Effects” (for Seasons 1-7) and “Season 7 Deleted Scenes”. There are similar features scattered throughout the sets and I have not viewed them all…yet. The “Conquest & Rebellion” feature on disc 3 of the Bonus Features set is long (ten chapters) and yet quite interesting, though consisting of slightly animation-enhanced high quality static images and character voice-overs. (Again, perhaps not done by the actors.) Note that once you select a chapter the history continues to play through the following chapters unless you interrupt it (that is, you can’t play “one and done”.) I found it useful to have subtitles on during the feature. It gives a fairly thorough overview of the 300-400 years of history before the Game of Thrones timeline began. Starting with Season 4 and after “Dolby Atmos” audio support is available, although I don’t have the equipment to determine the difference. But the enhanced audio is certainly available. The Bonus Features set does not support Dolby Atmos (who cares?) The ability to walk through the Episodes menu and select any episode from the entire season then be prompted to insert the correct disk if the selected episode is not on the current one is a nice little feature. It is not available on the Season 7 and 8 sets for some reason. I am sure you will enjoy this entire Blu-ray set of Game of Thrones! Review: For GoT Fans!! - Most excellent, has everything a GoT fan would want!

My son loved this gift and said video quality was great! I would like to add how great the seller was as well! I did not receive my initial order but I contacted the seller and let them know and they promptly resent me another. Thank You Very Much!

Ah, yes, here we are again...
..and here I am again watching GOT at my own leisure since I do not sub to HBO Max or have cable. I can now be disappointed again by the final season. Yet it's still a good show and worth it to own it.

Major functioning issues with the DVDs - missing episodes, glitching, no menu access
Unfortunately, a large number of the DVDs in this set have had significant problems. I’m only in season five so far, and I can’t wait any longer to write this review. I wish I’d had a warning before I purchased this set, so I’m leaving it for others now. Season 1 - Played fine for the most part. There was I think one DVD that never showed a menu (so no episode selection, subtitle selection, or bonus features possible), and only played the same single episode over and over, not the second episode that was supposed to be on the disk. Season 2 - I sat through every single DVD in this entire season (except for one) being pretty much nonfunctional. All of them had severe glitching and skipping to the point where about 95% of the show was missed. Many of the discs also had the same problem I mentioned where one episode played and nothing else was accessible, including the second episode on the disc. The discs weren’t scratched or dirty, they just didn’t work. Season 3 - much better than season 2, but still had at least two discs where the menu and other content wasn’t accessible and only one of the two episodes played. Season 4 - same as season 3, most discs played okay but more than one gave no menu access and only played one of the two episodes they’re supposed to have. Season 5 - I’m only a few episodes in, and already, once again, episodes are missing/not playing and the menu isn’t accessible. I’ve used a disc drive with a computer, I’ve used a PS4, and I’ve used a dedicated DVD/Blu-ray player. The same problems happened with every device. Also, while the DVDs came well-packaged—the set was in its cardboard sleeve, then shrink wrapped, then put in a brown cardboard box—but the cardboard sleeve itself was so fragile and seemingly time-worn that the sides started splitting before I even got it out of the shrink wrap plastic. The cardstock/cardboard holder for the DVD cases almost seems like it was weakened over time from heat or something. I’ve never had one so fragile before.

Good show, poorly packaged (stacked) 4K discs
The discs are stacked on top of each other in the case, very poorly designed to probably save a buck. And not befitting of the series. There are cases that can comfortably hold 4 discs without risking scratches, so no excuses. I hope that the discs will hold up, and that the are not scratched. I’ll report back when I have worked my way through them all. Picture and sound quality so far is amazing in 4K. (The case in the picture has 4 discs. 2 and 2 on top of each other…)

Let me confess at the start that I don't have cable and don't watch TV but friends in years past raved about "Game of Thrones" so I waited until a box set became available at an affordable price. I purchased this set near the end of March when the world was asked to stay home with a pandemic on the rise. Conserving the episodes to two per evening, I watched the adventures of these great characters over the month of April. It is, as so many people have already said, the best I've ever seen, and I'm a fan of 'Treme" which was also so very good. HBO is incredible & amazing. I can't say enough about "Game of Thrones" - it's fantastic. The production, the acting, the music, the story, the intrigue, the sets, the massive battle scenes are all incredible. I can only recommend it for anyone who loves an adventure and a great story told in a most extraordinary way. I have read some negative reviews about season 8, the final season and I was prepared for some emotions in watching it but all in all I'd have to say that although the final season is a bit shorter, it's a good ending to a great story. There are bonus features throughout that help you understand some history which helps to see the motivations of the characters and an extended look behind the cameras on the final days of shooting. My heart went out to all the folks who were involved in the production in that final year as they talked about the work, the memories, the friends they made and the sad fact of show business that the play eventually comes to an end and all those colleagues and friends go on to something else and somewhere else.

Game of Thrones This has to be one of the most absorbent series I have watched. It will take you on an emotional journey of highs and lows challenging your moral and ethical beliefs, it calls on our understanding of conscious boundaries and tolerances and to what we consider the norms of human behavior. Game of Thrones demands us to examine ourselves and to rethink and test what is, or could be, to how we live our personal lives today. This is a story that can be put in contrast to what is very real in another time and place and to how society exacts these standards today. Game of Thrones is a story of powerful love, family, and faith in humanity and the consequences of our actions or inactions. It is an epic series that has dragons, witches, sorcerers, demons and devils and monsters that live in our mind. We see the struggles of emotional bondage to our beliefs and the ability to move outside these boundaries to conquer our fears. The story teaches us the simple facts in life, such as no good deed goes unpunished, and that evil overpowers good. It also gives us some respite in that we see that there is a balance to evil and good and that there will never be a truly just society, that humans have emotional thresholds to what they can tolerate. This epic trip teaches us that we are all vulnerable, that we all have to be on guard, that we have to protect basic values and weed out the heretics and the deceivers of the truth. Game of Thrones is a series which I highly recommend, even if you are not a fan of medieval history in which the story is cast. It will challenge you in ways you never considered, it takes us on a journey to the other side. Take the time to think, weigh and question your beliefs, it could change you. Ron Jeffrey
