First off the cord that connects it to my computer didn’t work, I had to connect my charger for my tablet to it and then my computer was able to recognize it. But then the input would only stay at 0, idk how to fix this but for the life of me I can’t get it to work

This is a fairly decent [budget] cardioid mic for beginners who wanna move away from the traditional mic built into the desktops/laptops (or other devices that supports USB mic). It is for the most part better in every aspects comparing to those non-cardioid mics. While this is by no means a mind-blowing mic (and far from it, however it does support up to 192KHz/24bit sampling rate), it is definitely gonna change the way you sound, provided that it's configured AND used correctly. It's suitable for anyone who intends to use it for online/business meeting, streaming, podcasting, OBS, or anything of these sorts. ≡ Build & Features The build quality is about the same or at least very similar to the several dozens of mics in this price range ($35-$45). It does have features that some others don't have such as volume/gain control (some don't) and the 3.5mm audio out (many don't). Unfortunately, it does NOT have mute button (many don't) or noise cancellation (nearly all don't). Unlike most others, it comes fully packaged with respect to accessories. The stand is made of metal alloy and appears to be well made and sturdy. A shock mount as well as pop filter are also included, both of which appear to have good overall physical build quality and not just some cheap dollar store alternatives. Lastly, it includes both USB-C/C and USB-A/C cables which I don't often see for these budget mics. I don't really like the placement (below the knobs) of the 3.5mm jack; it's difficult to get to and not a well thought out design in my mind. As you can see, it's easily blocked by the shock mount or anything of the sort and it should REALLY be at the opposite side for knobs in the back. The volume knob is also easy to work with while surprisingly many make it difficult to turn the knob because either it's too short or lacks grip. It also has something that most other similarly styled mics don't have; volume control for 3.5mm audio out which is quite nice. It's also important to point out that it's got a USB-C port whereas most (or at least many at this moment in 2022) others have Mini USB instead. ✓ Power/Mute button Unfortunately, this particular model does NOT have power button to turn the mic On/Off (and with LED indicator of course) or more precisely, a dedicated to mute/unmute. In order to mute, I'd need to turn the volume all the way to the min which is just, well, wrong in my book. ALL such microphones should at a very minimum have a dedicated mute button. ✓ Noise cancellation Unfortunately, this particular model does NOT have any sort of noise cancellation/reduction built-in which is a shame. ✓ 3.5mm (monitor) port The inability to use the 3.5mm jack unless the volume (gain) is set to the appropriate level for the actual mic itself is just dumb for me. I should be able to use the 3.5mm as a pass-through port regardless of status of the mic, i.e. whether if the mic is muted (not supported by this mic anyway) or if the volume for the mic is at the lowest. The volume knob for the 3.5mm port should be independent of the mic volume that's controlled by another knob (but that's not the case here). In short, this is a half-baked 3.5mm port for me; it's there but it's not fully functional, at least not to me. ≡ Configuration The mic is plug'n'play with most modern [versions of] operating systems. I've seen NUMEROUS times where people complained about the mic not being able to pick up sounds properly or that the sounds were weak, volume was too low, or the quality was bad and so on. While it's certainly possible (and it does in fact happen) that they got a dud, what's more likely happened was probably one of the following; * The mic was installed and ready for use; however, it has NOT been SELECTED as the [default] input device for whatever the app being used. As a result, the existing/old mic picked up the voice/sound where it's probably too far to pick up the voice properly or the voice's simply not being directed at the old mic. This resulted in poor reception and people might think it's the new mic that failed to do its job when in fact it wasn't even doing anything because it hasn't been selected as the mic to receive inputs. * Most, if not all, of these cardioid mics require the voice/sound to the directed at specific area of the mic, usually at the FRONT. A few of 'em takes input directly at the 'TOP'. Therefore, if you speak into the sides, your voice WILL sound MUFFLED, far away, broken, or just of low quality in general. ≡ Sound quality Well, perception of sound is a tricky business and I'm no sound engineer or even anyone close to an audiophile. Thus, I'll leave that to you and your preferences to decide on the quality of the sound being picked up by this mic. I've included a short 70 sec clip with the following; * First 10 sec: original * Next 6x 10sec (total = 1min) audio are what the mic picked up from various distances, with and without noise cancellation (N/C). 1. 20 cm (8 in), without N/C 2. 20 cm (8 in), with N/C 3. 40 cm (16 in), without N/C 4. 40 cm (16 in), with N/C 5. 100 cm (3 ft), without N/C 6. 100 cm (3 ft), with N/C Each of these 6 audio segments were prepended and appended with 5sec of 'silence' and you could clearly hear the difference of background noise (or the lack thereof) between N/C being enabled or disabled. Similarly, you could also hear that the voice volume was significantly lower and broken at various places when N/C is enabled. The negative effects were much less significant when audio source was very close to the mic, as expected. Last but not least, I also included a screen grab of the waveforms of the 6 audio clips. While it might not be readily obvious, you can clearly see the differences in volume level (based on the amplitude or the height of the waves) between N/C being on or off. ≡ Value All things considered, this is a fairly decent budget level cardioid microphone kit and it's reasonably priced at $54 given its physical build quality, accessories, and all that it provides (volume adjust, 3.5mm audio out+ volume control) even though it does lack few features that I'd really like to see.
