The wide variety of reviews had me approach this with caution, but am glad I got it! Pretty straightforward. You will have to read the instructions carefully and do a bit of translation (frosting = sanding), but the pictures help with the things that are a bit vague. And they provide a few extra pieces for the ones that are likely to break when taking them out of the wood sheets. So the 'hacks' to share: 1. I used an alcohol marker (Ohuhu 95) to darken the edges. This made the color more consistent and did a nice job covering any sanding or chips. 2. I very carefully 'split' many of the pieces that were going to hang on the walls. They actually split surprisingly well as the wood is laminated. This made them look better proportionally. Splitting the two pieces that go inside the clock allowed them to fit without sticking out, and the frames and what goes in them look better. 3. I used some colored pencil on the one map to make it pop a bit better. 4. I removed a bit of the filigree on the desk. It is too big and the instructions show it poking above the edge, so I carefully snipped a bit off so it fit. 5. The instructions indicate that one of the four LEDs is blue, but none of mine were. A blue alcohol marker took care of that. 6. As I was carefully wiping up some of the excess glue around my carpet, I realized I could add a touch of wear to create a bit of realism. Just a damp paper towel and light rubbing. 7. Do pay attention to the book shelf picture you paste on the wall, there is an up and down to them. Lots of opportunity to customize! If I had my full studio available while doing this, I probably would have made a different set of books for the shelves, created a book or two of my own and perhaps even changed the carpet. I would likely have added a few other things, and may do so in the future, such as a touch of gold paint on the disk hinges and knobs.

Took about 20 hours to complete. The final product is very cute but those individual books are tough!

I loved the look of this Book Nook. Had I put it together using the instructions it would have been a very easy build. Even the lighting was basically a plug and play, very easy. The wood is a nice quality with a good weight. The mirror is not quite at the correct angle as, if you turn the box too far, you can see yourself in the mirror. Which takes away from the illusion of the larger room. Not a big deal but I thought I should mention it. I changed the book store look to a magic potion Shoppe. Which meant having to put in some tiny shelves along the two walls and make about 200 tiny potion bottles. I put real metal gears over the wooden metal gears on the clock. I also used a couple of drops of blue gallery glass to the open circles on the rafters. I changed out the book page inserts for dragon photos and a handmade book for the desk along with adding some gold paint on the walls and rafters. I have to say, I really enjoyed this kit. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to build a book nook or someone who wants a quality box that they can use to create their own little world.

Ive done my fair share of crafts and I can say that this one was one of the better ones. Quick, about 10 hours tops.
