SOLID PRODUCT-HIGH PRICE
Works exactly as intended with no issues. Ignore the review with the long rambling complaint about saved parking mode videos. The person who wrote the review obviously doesn't know how to use/change the settings in the Garmin "drive" app. -Go to settings -Select Parking Mode -Select one of the following Motion - Impact - Motion/Impact If there are a lot of cars or foot traffic passing by your camera while parked and you don't want a video every time this happens then set it to record only if it detects an impact. It should only be set to record motion if you're curious to see whats going on outside your car. Do not set it to record motion for the purpose of catching a thief. If they break in to your car they are going to steal the camera with the memory card and the motion detection will have been pointless. On a quick side note, the reason parking mode videos are automatically saved is because when the recording occurs you're obviously not in the car. It's saved to prevent it from being overwritten before you have the opportunity to view it. Installation is straight forward and didn't take long. If you're comfortable with performing basic wiring on your vehicle than installation should be easy. If you're not up to the task then any stereo shop and/or the majority of mechanics should have no problem. I found the quickest/most efficient method for installation was to purchase fuse taps(2). If you don't know what those are a quick Google search will provide all the info you need. They can be purchased on Amazon or at any auto supply store. Only complaint/drawback is the price Garmin charges for this. Garmin should really include this with the camera or at the very least lower the price.

A nice add on for Garmin cam.
Gave a 3 star for installation because to achieve a seamless (neat) install takes moderate skill. I give a 5 if you don’t care about exposed wiring. The instructions are great and have an easy to follow schematic diagram anybody can understand. But it’s nice to hide the wiring through the headliner and that might not be something that everyone can do easily. Once installed it works great. The activation is impressive especially at night. I’ll review a parked video and the camera starts filming when the movement is 180’ out. I noticed that it has some hiccups in very cold weather 0-20f. It’ll record fine when parked but when I start my truck it will sometime shut off and restart several times and then works fine. That could be a issue limited to me. Who knows. But once the camera (Garmin 45) warms up it runs great at start up. I think the electronics are affected by the cold. Worth the money. And worth the time for a neat and clean install.

Works Great with Dash Cam Mini2
Had a friend get some fuse taps and hook my dash cam directly up to my fuse box, and now my dash cam notifies me if my car moves any significant amount while the car is off/parked. The hardest part was installation of this thing, but if you have a friend or someone you know that has hooked one of these up before, it can be pretty easy! Just make sure you reach which wire is the constant and which one is the switch haha.

Not only for parking mode
Recently purchased two Garmin 55 and two parking mode wiring harness. The camera is great in its small size and function. I didn't want a cord coming down and plugging into the cigarette lighter even if the cord is long enough to be hidden in the headliner and molding. If you are going to that effort you might as well make it seamless and hard wire it to your fuse box under your steering wheel. Youtube has some good videos and for a first time installer it was easier than I thought. The two thing you must buy from an auto parts store (about $8 each if they have the extra fuses and about $6 if they don't ) are two add-a- fuse adapters - make sure you get the right size add a fuse adapter as one car had the low profile fuses and the other didn't. Because the end of the wire of the harness is bare wire and you need to crimp it into the adapter to plug into the fuse panel. Each adapter has two slots (use a 10A for both the battery and the accessory wire) so that it will have two fuses to accommodate the dash cam and whatever was being powered originally. This third wire is ground and that does not need an adapter. Once you get it up and running it is seamless and you do not need to do anything once you start your car. It does have a legal notice that comes up every time with a prompt to "agree" but you don't need to press any button as it will go away in about 10-15 seconds. In fact, you probably shouldn't as anytime you touch this small camera as it is very easy to alter the aim point by mistake. About the parking mode. It is motion activated and I turned it off since one time I came back to my car and I had 17 parked mode videos stored. Apparently light and distant movement trigger the activation. Still, the parking mode wiring is exactly what I needed for keeping the console uncluttered and not even noticing the camera as it barely peeks out beneath my rear view mirror.

A stealthy way to install your Garmin dash cam
I purchased this cable for my Garmin Mini 2 Dashcam. I didn't like the idea of having to connect to the power outlet on the console with the power cord visible. The USB plug routes the cord upward, allowing you to tuck it between the windshield and the headliner. It was easy to "carefully" remove the trim on the driver's side A pillar and route the cord under the dash. Installation note: My car is a 2002 Acura RSX, it was necessary to feed the wire from under the dash up to the camera location because of the circuit box on the cable. I have the luxury of a factory service manual for my car so I was able to locate the necessary fuses to power the camera in parked and driving modes. I also purchased fuse taps to connect the wiring to the car. These plug into the fuse panel, maintaining the existing circuit and provide an additional fused line for the camera. The additional fuse should not exceed that of the original circuit. This eliminates the need to modify the wiring harness of the car. I've set the parking mode limit to two hours to prevent undo drainage of the battery.

Must have if you want your dash cam to use the car's battery rather than recharging
I purchased the Garmin dash cam and was happy with the product. However, I wanted to power it from the car battery rather than recharging in an outlet. This is the only way to do that. I also wanted the camera to be on while my car was parked so it could record if someone backed into me or struck me while the vehicle was off. You'll use a fuse jumper in the car that is always on (think interior light or hazzard lights) and then plug the power from the fuse source into the jumper. You can hide the wire that goes to the dash cam in your interior trim easily with a non-sharp thin object (think a regular dinner knife or spoon handle). One complicated part is that you must ground the parking mode cable on a bolt in the car body. I found one close to my emergency break. By unscrewing this bolt slighty, I inserted the ground wire and re-tightened. The entire installation took about 30 minutes. I recommend planning your wiring strategy first by: 1. purchase a fuse jumper. I used: 5 Pack 12V Car Add-a-Circuit Fuse TAP Adapter Mini ATM APM Blade Fuse Holder 2. there are several Youtube videos on Garmin dash cam Parking mode installation 3. find the right fuse (interior light or hazzards) 4. get your tools for the ground wire, crimping the wire on the fuse jumper, and a thin tool to hide the wires in your interior molding heading up and at the top of the windshield to where your camera is mounted (likely behind your rear view mirror).

Pricey but does its job
After a crash and a he said she said we purchased dash cameras for all of our cars. Initially we used the USB plug / outlet but it took up a slot and was a pain to have the cords running around the dash and floor. This is the only hardwire kit that a Garmin dash cam can use to maintain the parking feature (from my understanding and research). At $40 with nothing else included it is a bit pricey IMO being I can get other hardwire kits with fuse taps included for a 1/4 the price. It does NOT come with anything for the actual wiring so you will need to purchase fuse taps for the appropriate fuse size your tapping into.
