How many packs due I need to order to make a queen size quilt?

2 should be enough - it depends on what other fabrics you will use with it.Also you will probably add borders to it too.Sue

Would these work for a rag quilt?

We've had customers use plain cotton for rag quilts but you won't get as much fraying as with flannel. If you are looking for the look of a traditional rag quilt, you probably won't like the final quilt.

How many different colors or shades are there?

Precut packs are 42 count with 2-3 of each fabric. That doesn’t mean that there are 14-21 different colors, just 14-21 different fabric in coordinating colors. I bought mine in 2016, so I don’t have it available to count, sorry.
