Excellent Price-purchased first at local health store-double the price there-so great value here-purchased this after reading comments from people trying to recuperate from side effects of SSRI meds from depression to sleep to pain pills-it runs the gamut-things that take over producing serotonin and then your brain doesn't produce it if you quit that medication. Of course doctors don't tell you that when they put you on the drug-they don't say you will suffer brain zaps and noise in your ears-not tininitus, NOISE-and other symptons-and when you say hey, I'm not taking this drug anymore what do I do about these side effects they are baffled. Doing my own research I found 5htp to be a solution and yes, it has helped the brain zaps go away and stabilized my moods. Noise in ears still there but perhaps that is a secondary issue. If you are looking for a serotonin supplement, I can say for me this worked. Between lupus and C-PTSD, I was struggling quite a bit, but after about four weeks I felt close to my old self mentally. I sleep better, feel more capable to deal with things that come my way, and motivated in a way that I was previously. It doesn't SOLVE your issues, but it does help and doesn't have any side effects (for me, anyway) like the pharmaceutical drugs I was put on that nearly drove me over the edge and created all kinds of side effects, several being weight gain, shakiness to the extreme, and irritability, which who needs that when you are already struggling? I would say I am a fan of 5htp. I am not taking any other mood enhancers and I don't drink, smoke anything including CBD which had a negative effect on me, or take drugs, so it was a clean experience for me. Take that into consideration when you try new things. It all depends on what else you are putting in your body. Do your own research and search for interactions if you don't have a doctor you can consult. This is a brand I trust, great price, and the package was delivered overnight. Can't ask for more than that.

Depression and Sleep
Even at 100mg a night, this wonderful supplement helped me get off of my long term RX and I sleep really well without any side effects. This won't make you happy, but it can bring you to your baseline normal - and for people that suffer with anxiety and depression, that's no small thing. I found helpful information about this from a few websites and the book The Mood Cure by Julia Ross. Her writing style is very self-congratulatory and annoying in my opinion, but there is some good info on a few different amino acid supplements. As with everything, use caution if you're trying to transition. Start with 25mg and work your way up as you go down on your other medication. I never needed to go beyond 100mg to feel fine and to sleep like I imagine a lot of people take for granted - through the night!

This supplement changed my life
While my issues may differ from yours (springing from nutritional deficiencies caused by gut issues and possibly epigenetic components, who knows) I think its time I weighed in on this amazing supplement. I had slowly become depressed through my mid twenties and become rather withdrawn from social life. I eventually began having panic attacks in addition to my undiagnosed depression and anxiety (it can sneak up on you). Being an adult you tend to justify things like this with terms like "maturity". My doctor initially reccomended this supplement during the day but I was so anxious I wasn't ready to fully embrace it. I wish I would have given it more of a chance as it was several years of strife and learning alot about nutritional deficiencies and supplements before I would circle back to this supplement. I had already mostly gotten rid of the random panic attacks by bringing my b6 and b3 deficiencies back up but the difference with adding this to my regimen after this was like night and day. I began taking it and within a few days noticed less anxiety and depression and within a couple weeks I felt like I was 18 again! I could be more confident in social situations and was more open to new experiences. I got a new job and would shortly thereafter meet my wife-to-be. I strongly feel like none of this progress would have been made without the renewed sense of "me" and confidence I regained with this supplement. Im not always consistent and if I go too long I feel that anxiety creeping back at the periphery so I always a have a bottles around. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not use this if you are taking a prescription anti-depressant. This can result in Serotonin Syndrome which is deadly. Do your research! I also recommend reading the book "The Mood Cure", its very cheap on here and does an excellent job of explaining in laymans terms what Neurotransmitters are, how they affect us and how to increase them through diet or supplementation.

Goodbye chronic insommnia
I have a large shoebox full of half-used supplements that are reported to help with sleeplessness. I keep circling back to them, hoping I'll find the magic combination. I guess I can throw them all out now since I am getting such good results from Jarrow's 5-HTP. Insomnia kept me awake night after night, getting worse as the years went on. It wasn't stress that kept me awake. My squirrely mind did not want to shut down, actually having fun! Despite all the usual recommendations about eliminating caffeine, avoiding artificial light exposure, staying active and winding down, eating a healthful diet, not eating in the evening, meditating, having the correct sleeping environment, etc ... I still lay awake for hours. Naturopaths and MDs and the sleep doctor were no help. I take one cap of Jarrow 5-HTP and I can sleep for hours. If I need to take a 2 a.m. bathroom break, I can go back to sleep easily. It sounds dramatic, but it has changed my life.

Lifesaver
I learned about 5HTP from an article in Woman's World about anxiety while dealing with my then-husband's deployment to Kuwait. I had been on a non-narcotic anxiety med that made me a zombie and kept me out of work for 6 weeks. I was able to function without anxiety and return to work 2 days after starting the 5HTP and I've pulled people out of full-blown anxiety attacks within 10-15 minutes of them taking it. It doesn't make me or anybody I've given it to drowsy, loopy or crazy. It just calms and stops racing thoughts. If you need help sleeping, try melatonin. This isn't a sleep aid. You MIGHT experience slight nausea if taken on an empty stomach, regardless of what's printed on the bottle. Everybody's different. I find the Jarrow 100 mg to be the most potent and have recommended it to many, thankful friends and colleagues.

Good Help
This was recommended to me by a certified nutrition specialist. She is someone I trust a lot, and I needed help sleeping from something that wouldn't further stress my kidneys. (I have lupus.) I was starting to have symptoms of nephritis, so I wanted to go off NSAIDs and the valerian I had been taking after going off trazodone many years ago. It has taken a couple of weeks, but I am starting to sleep better. And, more importantly, I'm not waking up a swollen mess. You need to look up the proper dosage for your weight and adjust if necessary. I am taking 100 mg at 130 lbs.

Anxiety Gone, Jarrow the Best!
I initially discovered 5-htp after doing a little research. I had decided my serotonin levels may be off and I was looking for something to help. I used to have some anxiety issues, not like normal some times it happens, but all the time just want it to go away. Since then, I have tried several different brands of 5-htp and tried 50mg and 100mg. I started with 100 to 200 a day, every day, in the mornings at first. Then I tried evenings and 50 mg. I like how the 100 mg works for me. I found that night time is the best time to take it. No more anxiety, better sleep, much more of a calm, grounded, focused feeling in the day time, but not sedated. I still have plenty of energy. I also had to do some psychological work on myself for the anxiety. I found a deal on another brand of 5-htp at Costco and ended up throwing it away. Also, my Love started taking this for not being able to sleep. She now sleeps better and has more vivid dreams. It Works! Only buy this brand, because every thing Jarrow formulas makes is high quality, pure, and doesn't give a dirty, uncomfortable feeling like some.
