I have taken this for a few years now. This is the best form of alpha lipoic acid. If it doesn't have the R, it's synthetic and it's junk. This bottle lasts me two months usually. I take one every morning on an empty stomach with water, about 15 minutes before I have coffee. I initially started taking this for fibromyalgia-like pains in my arms and shoulders. This supplement, along with strengthening my back, has eliminated my pain. I believe this supplement is very effective for nerve and muscle pain. I've read a book about lipoic acid and the benefits are massive. It's an anti oxidant that's natural and as you age, your body makes less of it. This is a supplement that actually works. I have my husband taking it now too. Pills aren't too big and are easy to swallow with water. Container is easy to open. I think the company, life extension, makes quality supplements.

I've been taking this for a good while because it's good for so many things, from eye health to bone density to liver health, and at 73 I'm still going strong- I'll be reordering!

Because this product raises glutathione levels and also crosses the blood brain barrier, be aware of a possible detox reaction, especially if you have had / or still have dental silver mercury fillings. I would recommend opening the capsule and trying only half of a dose. If you take this on an empty stomach / or in a fasted state, you may not begin to feel the detox effects until after eating a meal that engages the liver / gallbladder, at which point the detox reaction can be rather unpleasant and continue for many, many hours. You may want to have some charcoal or bentonite clay available to soak up mobilized toxins. Start slow, and work up slowly over time - don't "tough it out", that is the way to cause damage to sensitive tissues. It may be necessary to skip days between doses, due to a cumulative effect - as glutathione continues to rise over time. Binders are always needed when "liberating" toxins that have been stored away in body tissues, especially the brain. (If you are sensitive to glycine, TMG or NAC, you may be sensitive to this product also.)

Useful supplement for energy metabolism(siabetics)

Every time I buy this product, I find at least 2–3 capsules in the bottle that are damaged — the shell is cracked and the powder spills everywhere. The manufacturer makes terrible capsules despite the high price. This is very disappointing, especially for a premium supplement.

I have only been taking this for a month, however I definitely noticed some differences pertaining to my neuropathy and fibromyalgia pain. Would like to keep using it, however it is rather expensive.
