How Design Makes Us Think PB: And Feel and Do Things Review: Simple effective design is a call to action - This is a clever visual guide to how design is everywhere: good design is thoughtful and problem-solving, and life is too short to accept bad design. My favorite analogy is presented early, comparing a simple iPhone with the straightforward stone monolith in 2001 Space Oddessy: good design prompts thinking, great design prompts action. Review: Well illustrated book for designers! - This book is just incredible! — Very well illustrated, with a tone of examples and case studies so it's easy to understand the many concepts that the author describes. And it describes all the ways in which design works, how people react to it and how we can use it as designers in our projects. Overall, a very insightful and though-provoking book, beautifully designed—A great resource for all designers! PS. I had the pleasure of interviewing Sean on my podcast "On Branding Podcast", so if you want to get an overview of what's inside the book, then I invite you to check it out.

Simple effective design is a call to action
This is a clever visual guide to how design is everywhere: good design is thoughtful and problem-solving, and life is too short to accept bad design. Wonderful book, but a bit hard to read and falls apart
The material in this book is great, I love seeing content grouped in chapters such as Humour, Intelligence, etc. Great text for design school students. Great visual examples used and it's not too long-winded. Lots of visuals. Big problems for me: The paragraph text is too small. It's only about 1 point larger than the captions. Makes it hard to read, and that's coming from someone who likes my text smaller. Too small here. Also the binding is bad! I've had the book a few weeks and the cover has completely separated from the bound text. I treat my books very gently too. Either cheap glue was used, or the binding was done incorrectly.

A beautiful way to condition the mind.
This product is great for the beginning artist and creator. It is especially designed for thinking design and fashion. It is a whole new way of thinking.

Poor binding quality
Great book but the binding snapped on day one.

Disappointed.
Expected this book to deliver some real insight into how design affects people and influences consumers to behave in certain ways, but it is more of an unauthoritative treatise on design styles and is pretty lacking in any scientific analysis or research that makes it anything other than a lot of general opinions with no facts to support it. I have no doubt the author is a fine designer and his opinions have value but I was expecting more from the title than what was contained in the book.

what were they seeing ( ? )
It seems reasonable that advertising is influencing western civilization & shaping our perceptions for emotional issues, but this book misses that point(s completely . What did they believe they were seeing in these ‘examples’ ? + poorly designed.

I am a Graphic Designer and have done a few courses hosted by Sean Adams, and his book was on my wish list for half a year. As I am in the UK, the book was never available for me to purchase, or for a ridiculous price, until a couple of days ago. I ordered the paperback, and it arrived after just 5 days (with prime) from the US! However, that doesn't tell anything about the book. The book truly is a design feature in itself, and it's an absolute joy flipping through it and reading it. The only thing I must say is that the binding seems a little too loose - time will tell how strong it is. Some pointed out in other reviews, that the font size is too small and a bad choice. I would highly recommend they get glasses or get some new ones! The font is a normal sized font for books, but not in a way that one can't read it. I wear glasses and I am half blind without them, but I have absolutely no difficulty reading anything in this book. Even without my glasses I can still read the text (with some effort, but that's down to my bad eyes) The font size also matches the all over style very well, and the book feels as if one is walking through an art gallery. The information is well written, but as I did some courses with him, and love the way he teaches, I am highly biased here. I am totally in love with this book (if this wasn't clear by now) If you want a beautiful book about design, no matter if you are a designer yourself or just enjoy beauty, I can highly recommend this book.
