This is a very easy to use thermometer that connects via wires from the probes to the base unit. The base unit then connects with a cell phone via Bluetooth and their app to extend the monitoring range. I found that it connected very easily to the App. For the price this is a great product. I used it for my first brisket in a new smoker earlier this week. My one wish for the current design is that it had a little more range. I had to keep my phone within about 30’ of the base unit to maintain a connection when I went inside. There was a brick wall / double pane window about 10 feet from the base unit. Range was substantially greater if I stayed outside. If I was doing it over, I would probably look for a thermometer and app that worked via wi-if or even cellular data so I could run errands or even play a round of golf during a long, slow cook while still being able to monitor the grill and meat temperatures.

OK, Here's the scoop... Many of the reviews fuss about the apps requirement for "FULL TIME LOCATION" permission. I agree, that is pretty sketchy. The app will not link to your thermometer at all until you give it FULL TIME location permission. However, once it links for the first time, You can open your app settings and DENY location and the app connects anyway without it. It still throws up the dialog saying it needs permission, but boots up and the dialog disappears at startup. WARNING: I went a bit further into the app settings and found that it also defaults to "Allowed To Use Cell Data In Background"...I also turned that one OFF and the app works great. Why that was there to begin with? All I can say is China is watching??? Beyond the initial questioning of possible security issues if installed "as-is", the thing works great. The manufacturer must have improved on its product because it did not ask me for PIN number as many have mentioned in reviews. The instruction booklet has a statement that says : "If your phone keep ask you pin number, please turn off your Bluetooth and open our Grill 5.0 APP, try to connect your thermometer again while your phone's Bluetooth and GPS is on." It says at the TOP of the same page: "Please contact your thermometer with our Grille 5.0 APP. Do not connect your device directly through your Bluetooth. So, FOLLOWING the instructions provided seems to be the key here. The APP works well. Didn't have any issues on first use. Setting temperatures and alarms is pretty straight forward. Just go exploring in the APP to familiarize yourself with what all is available. Some instructions and screen shots come in the instruction booklet, but they don't show everything. I did have a bit of an issue getting the device to show temperatures in Fahrenheit. The instruction booklet makes only BRIEF mention of this by showing the "Temperature" icon and describing it as " °C/°F change and alarm setting". When I clicked the option in the APP, the APP immediately changed from C to F. However, the device continued to display Celsius. After fiddling with it for about 5 minutes, I finally turned off both the APP and the device, Started the APP FIRST, then turned the device on and the device then switched over to Fahrenheit. I have turned both of them back off and on again several times and they are REMAINING on Fahrenheit. So, it looks like it will stay there until you change it back in the APP (Good news for me). ACCURACY: The probes are all within 2 deg. of each other (highest to lowest) when laying side-by-side on the table for several minutes. My wife had an issue with them not reading EXACTLY the same. But, I feel that if 2 degrees is going to make a difference whether you burn a piece of meat, you are WAY too picky!!! I cooked some steak on the "Medium Well" setting and they came out with just a tiny bit of pink in the middle...just the way I like mine! I used my trusty old one-channel thermometer to probe one of the steaks next to one of the new ones. They were within about 4 Deg. of each other for the duration. At times, they were reading exactly the same. So, I have determined that I can pretty much trust this unit to get my meat done to my satisfaction without burning it. After all, is that not the whole point? In conclusion, I love having several probes so I can cook different things on the grille at the same time and watch each of them individually. I agree with other reviews that the requirement for location permissions (and cell phone data use) is not a good thing, but both of these can be turned off without any functional detriment once the phone has made initial contact with the device. The thermometer works perfectly. The accuracy seems very good. The APP is fairly easy to figure out how to use, and I believe this to be a really good value for the price.

I bought this July of 2023. I'm just now using it to "smoke" a pork butt. I'm impressed how much range it has. It even can go through multiple walls in my scenario. Wifi would have been better though. I can almost make it to the computer I'm typing on now with the phone but it drops. Fortunately I can put the phone just a few feet away from me and do iPhone mirroring to keep the display on screen. My first cook with this and it already came in handy. Had my head turned while talking to the wife (using her account for review, lol) and then glanced over and saw my chamber temp at 547 F!!! Ran downstairs out , though the garage and across the backyard to see if the device was malfunctioning. Sure enough the needle on my grill was buried past 500!!! I really , really like this thing. Which I would have used it sooner. It was a few dollars cheaper back then but not like half price cheaper. lol There are definitely some knocks on this though. The probe temperature graphs aren't that great. You get a vague start range of temperature and the only reason why you get a current temperature is because it's shown on the screen. So the graphs are pretty useless otherwise. You get a visual of how the temp's climb or drop but nothing accurate. Also all recorded graph data resets if you lose connection. I would definitely buy again, of course this is just one cook with it. If anything goes awry I'll update.

Thanks to this high-tech, but easy to use gadget my guests think I actually know what I'm doing with my Kamado style BBQ. I just set it for the type of meat & desired outcome, & simply keep an eye on the phone app. If that's not easy enough, it will give you an audible notification when your creation is ready. It's almost too effortless.

This product has done me well, I use it every weekend when I'm smoking meat. The app is real easy to use and has an alarm to notify me when the food has reached my desired temperature which gives me more time to enjoy more family time while the food cooks
