Classic, easy latke mix with familiar flavor
This potato pancake mix is a convenient shortcut when there’s no time to grate potatoes from scratch. The texture crisps up nicely in the pan and the flavor tastes like the classic boxed latkes many people grew up with. It is not gourmet, but it is reliable, easy to prepare, and great to have on hand for quick dinners or holidays.

Manischewitz has the perfect recipe! Clearly better than grated from scratch.
I have been making these for Hanukkah parties for over 30 years. Manischewitz latkes are the best (!) and practically fool-proof. My main tips are to 1) Let the batter firm up for at least 15 minutes before frying. Longer is okay. 2) Fry them in safflower oil because safflower oil has a clean, neutral flavor and a high smoke point. (Under no circumstances should potato pancakes be fried in olive oil because olive oil has a low smoke point and the distinctive olive oil smell will vaporize and stink up your house when used for frying. Also, that heavy distinctive olive oil flavor would make your latkes taste icky.) 3) Use plenty of oil in the pan like at least a quarter of an inch; now is not the time to think healthy thoughts and skimp on the oil; you're making a delicious fried food treat, so make them properly. 4) Don't make them too big. If you have a stainless so-called casserole spoon, that is perfect. 5) Make your latkes fresh, on the spot, not ahead of time, and serve promptly. (If you're having a big party, consider hiring or assigning someone to stand at the stove and make them continuously AND consider having two big pans going at the same time.) People will stand around in your kitchen and gobble them up like vultures. 6) Give the cook a nice apron to wear. 7) Drain your potato pancakes on trays with several layers of paper towels for at least a minute. 8) Offer bowls of regular sweetened apple sauce and sour cream as condiments. Another bowl of apple sauce with sweetened defrosted frozen strawberries stirred in is an especially fabulous and pretty pink condiment to offer, too. (Psst. There are many, many snobby folks who think that latkes are always going to be better made from scratch. They will boast that they always use their grandmother's famous recipe, yada yada. I cannot tell you how many times guests have fallen all over themselves exclaiming that these are the best latkes they've ever had in their life! They say, "You have to send me this recipe!" Then, their mouths fall open in surprise when I freely share that it's the just the basic, traditional Manischewitz recipe and that it's just perfectly seasoned and hands-down better than anyone's grandmother's recipe. I have included a photo of my favorite casserole spoon that makes just the right size latkes. I like to fry in my 14-inch nonstick pan. Don't forget applesauce and sour cream as toppers!

Good Eats!
This potato pancake mix is the best one I have found. Have used it for many years. Easy to add some green onions or anything else you want to the mix. Easy to put together and make the pancakes. Depending on how big you make them, the mix makes a very sufficient amount of pancakes.

Almost Like Mom Used to Make
Good mix, we use half a packet for a meal for 2; makes about 8 nice little patties. The only down side is frying in oil is messy and smells up the house. Excellent taste with a hint of onion, great with apple sauce. Makes a special treat for breakfast. Good.

The box says it's "got everything you need . . . except the sour cream or apple sauce." But it doesn't, it also requires eggs and vegetable oil. I contacted the company, part of a large kosher conglomerate. They acknowledged my email, but didn't have an answer for it.
