Love it. Value for money.
I was a bit hesitant to make the switch from a traditional mattress, but the FULI Japanese Futon Mattress has been one of the best decisions I've made for my sleep and my living space. This is not your college dorm futon; this is a beautifully crafted, high-quality piece of bedding that has truly impressed me.The first thing I noticed was the incredible firmness and support. It has a three-layer structure that disperses pressure evenly across your body, and as someone who has been dealing with lower back pain, this has been an absolute godsend. I used to wake up with aches and stiffness, but after just a few nights on this futon, I felt a noticeable improvement. My spine feels properly aligned, and I'm getting a much deeper, more restorative sleep. The material is also a huge plus. The 100% cotton fabric is breathable and feels so soft against the skin, making for a cool and comfortable night's rest. I've been using it on top of a tatami mat, and the combination is perfect for a truly authentic and refreshing experience. But the real magic of this futon is its versatility. During the day, I simply fold it up and store it in the closet. This has completely opened up my small bedroom, making the space feel so much larger and more functional. It's also incredibly lightweight, so moving it around is effortless. This makes it perfect for having guests over—no more flimsy air mattresses! The care instructions are simple, and I've found that airing it out in the sun every now and then keeps it fluffy and fresh. It's a small ritual that makes me feel like I'm taking care of my space. For anyone who is looking for a minimalist, space-saving, and genuinely comfortable sleeping solution, the FULI Japanese Futon is an outstanding choice. It's an investment in your well-being and a major upgrade to your home. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Good Quality
I wanted to give the futon a few months use before leaving a review, which I have. It may not be the thickest but it is remarkably comfortable and very light. I have a bad lower back and using this futon has really helped. I sleep better and don't wake up anyway near so sore. Two nice touches were a thank you note and an origami stork. I bought this futon because I wanted a good quality product and am very pleased with it.

The Quality Is Evident
Very happy with my new futon, and feel like it was definitely worth paying the extra money. It came vacuum packed, but pretty much straight after unpacking it become nice and fluffy.

Better than a bed+mattress
Fantastic - so comfortable and added benefit of being portable. I take this to places where I know the bed is not to my liking and have a great nights sleep on it.The Japanese have got this so right. The firmness supports your back properly unlike the majority of our traditional bed+mattress setups. There’s a reason why all orthopedic mattresses are very firm: it’s better for your back. Now I just need to convince my wife to get rid of our bed and mattress and get the kingsize version of this futon..

So far, comfortable.
We have been sleeping on this Futon for about a month. It is different from a mattress but comfortable. We put a mattress topper to provide an extra comfort. It has not been causing us backache so far. It is a bit pricy but we will see if there is a long term health benefit. Time will tell.

brilliant! With updates over 4 years
My son lives in Japan so i have sampled a number of futons and can no longer sleep comfortably on a traditional sprung or memory foam mattress. i have osteoporosis and a bad back. this mattress is perfect for me. it is thin so i can feel the floor under it but that is what i want. i use a kingzize duvet cover for a sheet. this protects both sides which is good for turning the mattress and for folding to allow it to air. a hand written thank you note and origami crane included in the packing added to the pleasant buying experience. no odour straight out of the shrink wrap either. lovely!Update April 2021No change in support or depth as perfect today as it was out of the bag. I think this will last for years!JAN 2023 still sleeping really well on this thin mattress, no change to the mattress shape/ firmness, no permanent indentations, springs back as soon as you move. Still perfect SEPT 24.... I would never go back to a 'proper 'mattress. Lying on my futon is the only time my back does not hurt. Very good value for money too.

Sleeping in the clouds.
The best mattress I have ever slept on. I use it on top of my mattress as a mattress topper. Makes so much difference and the mattress is really too quality in workmanship and quality materials used. However now a new issue has begun. I don't want to get out of bed in the morning. We spend almost half our lives sleeping so invest in yourself in a great mattress from Fuli. You know your worth it.

It's not a mattress, but..
I think the important thing to know is that this is not a mattress in the western sense, it's not going to support/wrap around your full body. This style of traditional futon it's main purpose is to help the body to support itself and to relieve the discomfort on the parts that contact the base like hip and shoulder joints. I think the depth measurement is given too much emphasis, yes it does fluff up but when you lay on it you are not going to get that much depth, the layers cushion the firm pad in the middle which is what supports the contact points. I've experimented with various sleep mats but needed something that was easier to put away each morning and a little more fit for purpose, so a Japanese futon fits the bill! I would recommend trying a self inflating camping mat say 4cm and if you get on with that for a few nights then I think you'll have no issues with this as a permanent bed.
