Q: Can this item be returned?

Only through Google which is a very difficult proposition. I returned it several times and never received a working unit. Do not purchase this item.

Q: Does the sensor need to be wired? Or is it wireless?

The sensor is wirelessly paired with the thermostat during the set-up process.

Q: I have a horribly placed thermostat right above a gas wall heater. Will this run off the sensor or still trip to cut off when gas heater is on?

You can set it to run off either the sensor or the thermostat. I have mine set to run off the thermostat most of the day and the sensor at night.

Q: I want to use this to replace a thermostat for an AC only system, three wires available. Is that doable without wiring changes?
