Annatto Powder

Great for coloring rice, fantastic price.

Not a lot of flavor but this is where you get that intense "Tandoori Chicken" red color from.

Having lived in Guatemala I was accustomed to having annatto (achiote) available for so many dishes: recado for tamales, color and flavor for rice and many more. What I wouldn't have given then for the convenience of this powder. It cannot be simply ground annatto seeds, or it would never have the beautiful color. I was always told to never grind the seeds as that made the dish better. I have never tried grinding whole seeds, so I cannot vouch for this truism, but I do know that grinding whole seeds would never give this gorgeous color.Color is only a small part of the wonder of opening this packet. The wonderful aroma of annatto is something that just takes me back to those days in Guatemala. And this product has a most amazing aroma. My son had a rice dish from Puerto Rico, and asked if I could duplicate it. I needed annatto to make a version of the "Sazon" that goes in for color and flavor. I had been out of this product for a while, and am extremely grateful to have it in my kitchen once again. I highly recommend this product!

Nice achiote seed flavor!! (Same as Annatto seed.) Earthy flavors that is good on fish, chicken or beef. I recently bought a packet of Shawarma seasoning that was missing the Annatto spice. **Use a gallon baggie or food grade gloves to mix this seasoning with your protein of choice--color will stain your skin.** If you want a spicy, but not hot, flavor--this is an excellent choice to mix with garlic, onion, etc.

Great quality. A little goes a long way. I was buying the block forms from my local grocery store. It was over priced so when i found the powder in amazon the price was amazing and happy with the quality and taste.

I planned to use this Annatto Powder in several of my dishes but mainly to add some color to my clear shrimp dumpling. The powder appears to be fresh and vibrant in color. It was delivered on time and I can't wait to use it in all of my dishes.YMN.

You need to put more amount than usual in order to achieve the taste and color that you want

This spice is wonderful and I received a huge bag that will last forever. After returning from Ecuador and learning how to make coastal rice, this spice was a must have. It flavors and colors the rice perfectly.
