Only had for about a day, but seems very durable and quality.
Three compartments in total, two small with some organizing compartments, and one large opening for laptop and everything else. The backpack seems very durable and seems like it will last me many years. It also has a lot of space in it for many items. I packed my 14 inch laptop, my Nintendo switch, my headphones, a toiletry bag, a ziplock bag with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in it, and some clothes in this bag. Not to mention cables and smaller items in the smaller pockets of the bag. It's plenty big and the water bottle compartments can also hold very large water bottles, I would say close to 64 oz so. Worth the money.

Great bag for my needs. Read reviews before buying, it may not be your cup of tea
2 year update: Still Loving the bag. It's become the designated tech bag for the laptop, accessories, tablet and Kindle. It lives in my vehicle for when I've got downtime. Original revier: After reading the reviews I decided to pick this bag up instead of the smaller version, glad I did! Bag looks good, materials look and feel good, stitching looks rugged and overall it's a great little bag. I was replacing my mil-tech brand assault pack, which looks like any basic military assault pack, but I wanted something a bit smaller. I bought this bag for running to work with my laptop and various gear, which it's well suited for. I easily fit my Dell XPS 13 in the laptop sleeve, and I bet it'll fit a standard 15 inch laptop, even if it's a bit tight. Besides that I keep a smart phone, USB cords, laptop power supply, large logitech mouse, beats bluetooth head phones, a med kit and other junk. I could fit a change of cloths or a jacket as well if need be. I wouldn't take this on a trip, unless I had a second backpack or duffel. My assault pack was great for that use being as expansive as it was, but I didn't want a bag that big for back and forth to work or the coffee shop. I also don't suggest this as a day hike pack. I use my Osprey day pack for hiking, it's far better suited for climbing than this bag. Walking around town may be fine, but I can already tell you that the bag will make my back hurt on a real hike (like a day hike up Mt. Monadnock or something). Things I like: The bag looks nice Construction quality looks appropriate Generally minimalist design Curved shoulder straps are comfortable Rubber bottom is a nice option The bag stands on it's own, much better than flopping over Constructive Criticism: I'll agree with one of the reviews I read, two zipper pulls on the front pockets would be much better. You need to be conscious of what you're doing when opening the top small pocket, otherwise stuff will fall out. Not a deal breaker, but for future design considerations. Cell phone pocket could be a little bigger, my Galaxy S5 with spigen case is a tight squeeze. Side pockets fit a standard 100ml Nalgene. Again, it's a tight fit. Carry handle could be longer, it's a little hard to grab with my big mits. Bottom Line: Great bag for my intended purpose. If you want a bag to fly, take on road trips or hike a trail, this is not your best bet. If you need a coffee shop bag for your smaller laptop, plus a handful of accessories, then this thing is great.

Sturdy bag
Good and sturdy bag for carrying a heavy load (like books). Ideal bag for someone who is not gentle with their stuff and you know the bag will go through a beating.

Best backpack I've ever had
This backpack is the bee's knees. When I started college, I'd gotten a cheaper backpack that literally fell apart by the end of my first year, and had started ripping by the end of the first semester. I decided I couldn't go wrong with Carhartt, and hot damn was I right. This backpack is marvelous. I didn't realize how awful the weight distribution of my old one was until I got this. It's actually comfortable to wear (the padding on the back is wonderful) and it distributes the weight in such a way that it doesn't put too much strain on your shoulders (I have really bad shoulders so this was a big big plus). When I first got it, I thought it was gonna be kind of small, but this thing is like Hermione's purse in Deathly Hallows. You can put all of your books in it and still have more space. I've used it as an overnight bag, too, but packing my things on top of my school supplies. I really like that the zippers are covered because, again, my old backpack that claimed to be water resistant left all of my belongings soaked when I got caught in a downpour. This one is TRULY water resistant, and moisture doesn't soak through it. I really like the material and I really like the pockets - the top one on the outside makes a great pencil case and the one below is the ideal size for odds and ends like lipstick, lotion, mints, etc. The water bottle pockets are the perfect size too, and won't let your water bottle go flying when you swing your backpack on (guess what did let that happen). I could clearly go on about this backpack forever. I've had it one semester now, rain, snow, and shine, and it doesn't even show any sign of wear or tear. VERY high quality and a fantastic deal

Great Overall, but Single Zippers on Pouches
I love this backpack. I like the materials, the colors and the overall look. It has two small sections inside the main bag area (for laptops is my guess, or tablets, it’s a typical setup with the Velcro strap, but there are two laptop layers). It has two pouches on the back, which for me is where I keep all of my day to day stuff. It also has very large mesh pouches on each side, which can fit anything from a large bottle of saline for contact users to even potentially a big protein shake bottle (much larger than my old Swiss backpack, which I’ve used for over a decade… without any damage or breakage to be fair). I like it, I like everything about it. It’s an upgrade in all but one way: the pouches on the back have single zippers. This really isn’t a huge deal, but my old backpack had double zippers (like the main compartment on this one has), meaning you could close it from any angle and you wouldn’t have to reach over to close the single zipper in certain scenarios. For me, the main use of the pack is bringing clean clothes to my shop, along with all of my necessary daily needs, and when I drive home I throw it in the passenger seat. With this backpack, I have to lean all the way over to my passenger-seat-side to close or reach the zippers for the outside compartments (they zip to the right side, so if you live in the UK or AUS, etc, this would be a benefit for you in the car, just not in the US). This is my main issue with this backpack right now. Everything else is amazing so far (outside of testing the durability over a decade+), and I love it otherwise. I really wish they would’ve put double zippers on the outside compartments, so I didn’t have to reach over to zip them. I know it seems petty, but when it’s an everyday thing, it adds up.

Buy. This. Backpack.
This backpack has very few flaws in my opinion. If you're considering it, buy it, it's a very solid choice. I bought this backpack in my sophomore year of undergrad. I am now going into my second semester of grad school. It is fantastic. It's the perfect size and can carry anything you need pretty much, even to the point that you can stuff some clothes in it and stuff if you're going on a two day trip or something. It'll get big obviously if you do but you can still zip it up. I had a Herschel Supply bag before this one and that was a pain to open up because of how the fabric reached over the main zipper. This bag does not have that issue, BUT I would recommend getting some extra zipper pulls for it. It has the metal ones on it already, and they're fine just small. I bought a pack of the little rubber ones that loop through and over themselves and it has been perfect. Also, this isn't a gripe but do note that the tablet holder is for the smaller ended sizes of tablets. If you have a bigger tablet like a large iPad pro you're going to be better suited putting it in the laptop holder, but there's most certainly enough room to do so, while still holding a laptop as well.
