New ball!
This is the new ball for NCAA and USAV Adult volleyball. I like it a lot. I'll compare it to the pro touch since that is what this ball is replacing. It has a more... plush outer layer that does a couple things different. It is more tacky, making setting a lot easier than the sometimes slippery pro touch. It is less bouncy. When passing, you'll need to give it a little extra push. It tends to 'die' on the arms a little bit. Not a bad thing, just an adjustment. That bouncy thing again. It doesn't hit as hard. It won't fly off of your hand like the pro touch will. Because of the outer surface and the way it bounces, you tend to gain a little more control when hitting . With the tacky surface and the reluctance to rebound off of your hand when you swing, your contact time with the ball seems longer. This makes swinging shots (like roll shots, cut shots) a little easier to do. You can put more spin on the ball. When I pepper with this ball, it tends to hurt a little more. I think that because it doesn't rebound off a surface as well, it is transfering more energy into your body (arms). I also find that I need a 'stronger' passing platform (vs. beach) because the ball wants to push part of your platform down. Keep your arms more rigid. The red and blue ball is the same as the green one that this review is on.

Solid, responsive ball. Not for the weak or casual players.
This is the best ball I've ever played with and completely understand why it's being used for NCAA Men's Championships. It is a very responsive setter, and I feel I've got better control when hitting than I did with my old Tachikara. No noticeable difference in serving or receiving with this ball - maybe once I get more used to it'll improve. The color doesn't bother me, and I've gotten only compliments from my fellow players. Not sure if you're red-green color blind, how it'd work ... I wasn't sure how I'd like the new surface, but other than leaving some interesting marks when receiving, I really, really like it. With that being said, this ball HURTS if you're not used to playing with a dedicated men's ball, like the pro touch it replaces. Even if you are experienced, I was surprised the first few matches about how much this ball stung when passed. It has gotten better, probably because I've toughened up/deadened to it. If you're not playing serious indoor volleyball or don't like dense [that's what I've decided is the best word for it] volleyballs, you can probably find something cheaper that fits your style better. If you're playing competitively or a bunch, then you'll be hard pressed to find a better volleyball.
