Good basic scanner, does the most needed functions for cable scans and testing, durable so far
I needed a good cable tester, but didn't want to spend $350-$500 to replace my old unit. This had all the basic features, cable test, tone, one remote, hub blink, backlight for display. I got the kit with a few additional remotes too for multiple cable scans. So far so good. I've used Klein hand tools for years and the cable scanner seems to be in line with their quality. It is a basic scanner though, and the cost reflects that. Seems to be durable so far, would recommend a case.

Essential for Network Troubleshooting—Pinpoint Accuracy
The Klein VSVD501-851 proved to be an invaluable tool in diagnosing a tricky network issue. I had wired a Cat6A keystone plug, but instead of the expected 1G fiber internet speed, I was only getting around 60 Mbps. This tool quickly identified the problem—two loose wires in the keystone. Thanks to its precise fault detection, I was able to redo the connection and instantly restored full 1Gbps speed, both up and down. Beyond its accuracy, the device is intuitive and efficient, making it a must-have for network setup and troubleshooting. One thing I’d recommend is getting a case to keep the tool and accessories organized and protected. Having a dedicated storage solution ensures everything stays secure and ready when you need it, especially for professional or frequent use.

Great tool, easy to use, nothing can go wrong with Klein tools
It works like a charm, I recommend it, professional. If you only have to test couple of Ethernet cables go for something cheaper unless you like nice tool and it is one of them.

Good features and much cheaper than Fluke
If you do CatIV work as a small business or volunteer as I do, then this is a good tester to make sure your wires aren't crossed / open / shorted without the expense of the least expensive Fluke. It replaces the simple 8 light tester that I used for a year before its purchase. It comes with 4 remote probe identifiers that could be of some assistance if you are terminating several wires before labeling. It will also put a tone on cables for identifying a cable in a bundle, but you will need to purchase a VDV500-123 probe to be able to use that feature. Another feature is the ability to light up a port on a switch. I have not used it to light up a port on a switch nor used it for coax or phone cable testing. I have only used it for a couple of wiring jobs, so I'm not completely comfortable with the features and functions, so I have to refer to the manual. Also, I would have liked for the Internet wiring to be running automatically upon power up without having to press buttons, but this might only be me. I'm satisfied with the features and value and would purchase this again.

Another quality Klein product, working for me
Well-built and easy to use. Has already helped me identify dodgy patch cables. Next project is to identify coax cables from old cable install to repurpose for POE for outdoor IP POE cameras. Arrived in great condition. The packaging is made of particularly tough plastic so you will need utility scissors to actually get it out of the packaging.

Good Unit, Well Designed.
Seems to be a good high quality and well built piece of test equipment with Wide Range uses (probably far beyond what I will ever use... It is well priced and seems to be Heavy Duty and well constructed. Where I think it would survive a drop, It may or may not survive a Long Drop, especially on a Hard Service. I do recommend this unit. It does what it says it is supposed to do. It comes with a Generic 9 VDC battery that I refuse to use the ones supplied with the product, I recommend using Duracell.. Much Higher Quality!
