A great competitive card game, but not for casual watchers of the show.
Please be aware that this game is not meant for casual GOT fans: this card game is much closer to competitive cards games like Magic the Gathering than more casual games like Cards Against Humanity. Fantasy Flight makes another game aimed more towards fans of the show that is MUCH simpler than this game. (EDIT: found here: Game of Thrones Card Game (HBO Edition) With that said, if you're into card games like Magic or Netrunner, then this game will definitely be worth a try. Fantasy Flight Games, the creators of Netrunner and Stars Wars LCG/Miniatures game, rebooted their AGOT card game (hence "2nd edition) to take advantage of the huge popularity of the TV show. With that said, I stumbled upon this game and loved it. If you're interested in diving into a new competitive card game, then AGOT: LCG 2nd Edition is definitely worth a try. However, if you're looking for a casual party game for fans of the TV Series, then this game will be too complex and complicated for a casual fun experience.

Requires three boxes, still cheaper than other card games
Requires three boxes to get full playsets of each card. One box is still enough to play casually. New cards come out fairly frequently (about every month and a half). This scratches the card game itch, but doesn't have a huge barrier to entry like games that have been around longer. $15 every few months is much easier to keep up with than a new 200+ Magic set 4 times a year. This plays way differently than Magic, and the lines of play are somehow both more complex and more straight forward. No more Stack to worry about. Cards are based on the books, not the show, so there are a lot of nice Easter eggs for book readers. The factions all play different enough that the content doesn't get stale. My only complaint is that Selyse Baratheon doesn't have a mustache.

I love this game
I love this game! I used to play magic the gathering about 10 years ago. But haven't played since. I don't know where all my cards went. I got the itch to play again but didn't like the idea of how much money is required to get invested. I am loving the LCG model of game of thrones. I really love the "three front battle" of power, military and intrigue. This game scratched all the itches I had for magic without breaking my bank. I now own every cars available and spent less than $100!

Good game for EXPERIENCED players
A Game of Thrones the Card Game is a beautifully illustrated card game that does an excellent job illustrating the world of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones. As far as quality goes, few gaming companies compare to Fantasy Flight Games, and A Game of Thrones the Card Game is no exception, with cards in nice sealed bags, extra storage space, and a beautiful box. As far as game play goes, however, players be warned. This is not FFG's best game - that being said, it isn't a bad game by any means. If both you and your opponent are experienced gamers when it comes to strategy card games, this will be the perfect fit for you, it's fast paced, requires you to really plan out your turn and think about what you opponent may be doing. However, if you AND your opponent are not experienced in this field, stay away, as the game can become boring and frustrating, with repetitive combat and abilities. I have played against opponents that are very good in this area and opponents that struggle with thinking outside-the-box. Players that struggle in this field often make the game boring for both me and them, because if ever a certain player has many more characters than his opponent, the game becomes a shut out and is not fun to play!

Great for price!
Over all this thing works great! We just plug it in when we hop in the car and pair a phone with it. We personally use spotify for the music just because it is easy! Hubby has his own playlist and I have my own so we can pick and chose what we want to hear. Cons: if you are traveling in a small town or out in the country, or even simply drive under some tall trees, it may make it act a little funny at times. The songs will seem to skip, like a CD or record would if scratched. And on occasion it will slow songs down a bit, just enough to where they sound a little different and it's hard to sing along.

15 power to win, most of the time you will or lose at the very start of the game.
Do not believe the other reviewers, they obviously work for the company that makes this game. This game is sold as a "complete" gameplay experience while it couldnt be farther from the truth. The box only brings 20 cards of each house, 60 being the required minimum in a deck. Also, the game suffers from incredible balance problems, since even though you are supposed to collect

Good name, bad game!
I purchased A Game of Thrones: The Card Game because I had fallen in love with the board game and decided to try my first LCG. The package arrived on time, is well made, and the artwork for the cards is very detailed. That's where the pros end. I had watched the how to play videos, so don't think I was going into this game completely blind. Sitting down with my gaming group, it soon became apparent that the video was unable to describe the complexity of this game. The text on the cards can be maddeningly ambiguous, my buddies and I often having to refer to the rules and glossary to figure out how each card is used, or make up our own rules when we prove unsuccessful. Not only that, but the rulebook and glossary also prove to be very unhelpful, following the same vagueness as the cards. While this claims to be for a minimum of two players, it's obvious from the abilities on the cards that it's made for larger groups, as it's way too easy to become overpowered in smaller games and completely obliterate the competition. I'm sure there are fans out there, and I salute you for your perseverance and fortitude. I would not recommend this game and will not be purchasing the other expansions.

Chess with Cards
A wonderful game of skill and a luck that is somewhat easy to learn but difficult to master. If you have a partner willing to learn with you, you will happily spend hours finding ways to counter each other in this game. Highly recommended.

I was a big fan of Game of Thrones Living Card Game (LCG) 1.0 and was heavily invested in that game. In all honesty though 1st edition had run its course with it extensive card catalogue, which made it difficult for new players, and broken game mechanics the game needed a complete re-boot. At first I was gutted that I would have to re-buy all the cards and start again as none of the 1st edition cards can be used in 2nd edition, but after seeing the new cards in 2nd edition I can see it's totally worth it! Of all the LCGs available Game of Thrones has always been my favourite. The designers have done a fantastic job tightening up the mechanics of the game and making it simpler. Be under no illusion, this is a complicated game to play when you take into account all the rules and then each cards abilities, where those abilities fit within the turn structure etc. However, compared to 1st edition, this is now much more thought out. There is now a lot more focus on challenges, challenge based effects and playing the game rather than a card having super abilities that completely cripple an opponents decks ability to make challenges in the game! I love the whole Game of Thrones lore and this game allows you to immerse yourself in eight different factions of the series. There are more characters than from just the TV series but you don't have to have read the books to appreciate the game. The factions included are Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, Targaryen, Greyjoy, Martell and new to second edition Tyrell and Nights Watch. One of the biggest appeals for this game is deck building. Straight out of the core box you can make decks, most by allying two factions together to give you enough cards in a deck (e.g. Lannister and Tyrell) but to get the most out of this game you will want to structure a deck, most likely focusing on one faction and that factions strengths and abilities. This core set has one copy of most of the cards within. On the upside this means that you get the most amount of unique characters straight out of the core set. All the unique characters, across eight different factions works out as good value from the core set. However to play competively you can have up to three copies of a card in a deck and for some characters you will want this because their ability is so powerful. This will mean having to buy three copies of the core set to get these cards and most competive player will do this. It was the same for 1st edition. Game of Thrones LCG will have cycles of chapter packs released throughout the games life span. Each cycle consists of six chapter packs released monthly with three copies of twenty new cards for the game each pack, ideal for deck customisation. There will also be a deluxe expansion for each faction during the games life span. The developers have announced that chapter packs will be cycled out to keep the card pool to a limited number of cards as opposed to 1st edition where all cards were available to be used. This cycling is likely to be a good thing as it will keep the game fresh and force people to keep customising their decks. It will also mean that new players later in the games life can join and not have such a daunting number of cards to buy. The one good thing about having to buy three core sets is that the cards in the core set will never be cycled out, meaning your investment in this game can be used throughout its entire life span. Overall this is a vast game that will most likely require a heavy investment to get the most out of the game and to play competively. If you and you friends like different factions you could look at splitting the cost between you, especially at the beginning. Starting out is a big hurdle but it is well worth it in the long run. Casual players will still get enjoyment out of this game but the most satisfying part of this game is building a well structured deck that wins games! I can't wait to see how the game will evolve and that is the beauty of a Living Card Game.

I have played the game once online, before purchasing this core set, and both of us, the other player and I, remarked on how tactical it was. And yes, it is short enough for a time filler, that can be played multiple times before and in between other major games. I bought it under the idea, that it will be the case with my father, and we will be able to play a few fast and furious games, given the nature of it, but it has yet to pass, although I believe it just requires time for him to like it. As a game designer myself, I see no means of improving or refining the mechanics, it is as perfect as it can get for what it attempts to fulfill, so I give it a full score of 5.
