Better bread basics
Still proofing your yeast in warm water and a pinch of sugar and waiting for it to become active? With SAF Red Instant Yeast, you simply add it to the dry ingredients and go! I am not a professional baker, simply a guy who bakes bread - lots of bread: rye, whole wheat, sourdough, burger buns, rolls. You get the idea. I used to use those 3-packs of yeast, like many people, but after my first pound of SAF red, I was hooked! Not just because I don't have to coddle it into action, but I use far less yeast in all of my breads (typically 6 grams for two loaves). It works consistently; a pound lasts me over a year; it keeps seemingly forever in the freezer; an additional 1-lb package means I'll have yeast until mid-2016! Wait...grams? Did I say GRAMS?! Why, yes. Yes I did, and here's why: How much flour is in a cup? It depends on how you fill it. Do you spoon flour in and level off the top with a knife? That's about 120 grams. Do you dip the cup into the flour and level it off? That's about 140 grams, almost 3/4 oz more! This inaccuracy leads to different breads on different days using the same recipe. To avoid this, I weigh my flour, and all of the other ingredients, according to the Baker's Percentage (visit[.....] for more details). I have a scale that shows both Imperial and Metric values. I use Metric because the simple arithmetic required in the Baker's Percentage is much easier with whole numbers (grams) than 10.35 oz. But I digress. I rely on SAF Red Yeast, and it will forever be a partner in my bread baking. Do yourself a favor and use it, and the Baker's Percentage, and you will astound your friends and family with your incredible, warm, aromatic loaves. Like me, you will rarely buy baked goods ever again.

Excellent results; better rising action than Fleishman's yeast
I had been using Fleishman yeast but tried this since I've heard so many good things about the SAF brand. I've been very impressed with the results -- better rising than with Fleishman's and it makes a nicer loaf. While it is priced a little higher than Fleishman's I've found I need to use less to get good results, so the cost per loaf ends up being less. Very pleased with this, and would highly recommend it for any bread making (both hand-made and machine-made).

Easier to Use than Traditional Active Yeast
If you haven't tried instant yeast in your recipes, you're missing a helpful tool in your pantry. This SAF Instant Yeast allows you to skip the step of proofing the yeast separately in warm water before adding it to your other ingredients. No more waiting for the active yeast to activate and foam up before continuing with your recipe. I like the convenience of this instant yeast so much, I've been converting my old recipes from using active dry yeast into using this instant yeast instead. One extra step removed! I've baked many varieties of breads, sandwich buns, cinnamon buns, and dinner rolls with this yeast with perfect results each time. To keep the yeast at its freshest, keep it in the freezer both before and after opening. Once you open the bag, place it in a freezer-grade ziplock plastic bagand keep it in the freezer. I keep a small amount of the yeast in a container inthe refrigerator for regular weekly use, then refill it as necessary while keeping the remainder of the bag in the freezer. Your yeast will last a year or more when stored in this way. Recommended.

Best Yeast Ever!
This is the only yeast I'll use and I've been baking all of our breads for about 6 years now. No more proofing for me! I also find that you need less yeast with SAF. I've never had it fail either. I just open the package and store in a jar in the freezer. It stays good forever. In the standard bread recipe that calls for 2 1/4 teaspoons of yeast I use just 2 teaspoons of SAF. It is also cheaper to purchase the 1 pound package. In a recent yeast emergency ( I ran out of SAF) I had to purchase on of those tiny jars of yeast for more than I pay for a pound of SAF!

Instant, easy, and best yeast ever!
I've been baking bread since the dark ages when yeast could involve an all night rising process if I wanted to make cinnamon rolls for breakfast. I wasn't sure if the instant would be up to the task, but I simply mixed it in with my pizza dough flour, and got the best grilled pizza ever! Easy peasy. But I was still not sure how it'd freeze. A week later I took the ball of dough I'd made out of the freezer and put it on the counter to thaw, Then, when it was about half thawed, I changed my mind about that night's dinner and risked putting it back in the freezer. Which wasn't really a risk since did I mention it's easy? Making another batch, if this failed, wouldn't be a problem. But it didn't! Two days later, I thawed it completely, spread it out on my pizza stone and it grilled as perfectly as the first time. BEST yeast ever!

Great product, economical!
So happy with this purchase and have found this yeast seems much better than the others I have tried. I bake my own bread several times a week and highly recommend this yeast. It's much less expensive than the one from the little packets I have been using and my bread rises better and taste better. Great product and economical. As others have said - store extra in your freezer and keep a small amount in a glass jar in your fridge.
