This esp32-wrover-e camera is spot on for what I need it for, the picture isn't that great but what do you expect for the low price, It was easy to set up took me about 20 mins to get it up and running and also a IR sensor attached to it so soon as someone or something comes close within a few feet or meter it will automatically take a photo and save it on the sd card that slots into the back of it. That's just one thing it's capable off I've got loads to try with it yet I have about 12-13 esps and this one is up there with the easiest to set up, I'm going to connect it to a 5v relay to power up a lamp and also have another one on the way, would highly recommend

Very versatile microcontroller, lots of i/o ports, wifi and bluetooth. Camera + webserver. Low power requirements Quick and easy to set up, if you follow the instructions to the letter, pay careful attention to baud rates. I have had this working through the arduino IDE on my imac, macbook air and a windows 10 laptop and they all work well. Will try to use with Thonny and VSCode later.the unit came well packaged in a study plastic box with a USB cable.Just had to install the CH340 driver, and add a link for the ESP3s in the board manager. 10 out of 10

I bought a cheaper unbranded equivalent board+cam from eBay but had lots of problems trying to upload and run sketches using both the Arduino IDE and PlatformIO. In frustration, I bought this branded FreeNove version and it 'just worked'. I can download at maximum speed and programs run correctly.I did find that the camera does not seem to run well when XCLK in the web UI is set at the default 20MHz. So I advise you to adjust this (try 25). 800x600 seemed to be the best compromise and streaming was OK (just don't expect 30fps). You can fit a higher resolution camera but the frame rate will be even slower. This board does not have a connector for an external aerial for long distance uses.If you don't fit the camera then you have a plain DevC Kit compatible board but it is one pin longer. These boards are too wide to fit on a standard breadboard (5 rows x 2), so you need to slot two breadboards together or get a wider breadboard. A good PlatformIO project (no camera) is ESP32-MiniWebRadio by schreibfaul1 on github. Picture shows WROOM DevKitC board but I replaced this with the FreeNove board later (which has PSRAM).

The media could not be loaded. I love the ESP32 specially after having used for a year in making a train model which is for the STEM program and other similar programs. I loved so much that I recommend them for a project were 9 boards had been purchased. I then discovered two things that are worth noting:1. Some of the cameras have defects like dead pixels (which can be seen as a red dot) and more often than not dirt found on the inside of the lens which can’t be removed.2. The microcontroller are not all equal. Some operate as expected while others are slow or even crash when doing the webcam exercise.I would suggest to anyone who purchases this product to install the software for the webcam exercise and check for dead pixels and dirt on their lens as well as if the ESP32 can handle this exercise.I have to be fair; I contacted customer support and they were happy to replace my first ESP32. However when I asked them about the recent defective ESP32; the supplier was not keen to do so even thought I showed them multiple videos of the issue!On the whole it’s an amazing product; I just hope they can resolve their quality issues.

I find this module best for use to any project.I use it as web server-vontroller. I don't have any troubles for setting it up. I reccomend it for beginners. This should be first dev board from you have to start.

Good instructions simple to get going

Works well as a simple MJPEG camera, using ESP32 Cam Webserver you can find on GitHub. Currently being used with motionEye and works great!

Ok for the price. Superb support from freenove as mine was somehow bricked with a corrupted boot loader once resolved works fine but I found the video to be next to useless even at lowest resolution. Quality was just passable colours were washed out and I had high hopes for this as a wildlife camera. This is good to play around with from a programming perspective but the lens falls way way short of being usable in everyday life. For the odd ‘still’ yes it’s ok but streaming video? Forget it. The averSge update to the web browser is 8 seconds a frame plus there were missing frames and it constantly hing so you had to keep restarting the webpage <F5>. I suppose you get what you pay for and for just over a tenner it’s worth it but forget any notions of using this as a cheap CCTV camera or wildlife remote unit powered by Lipo. I will say I’m a tad disappointed at the poor camera quality output. Lots of options but the overall score I give is 5/10. Jetson NANO and Radpberry pi camera for about £20 I think would be a better option.
