This is a good product for the money. I've found that regardless of what the box says, you absolutely do not want to wash it in the dishwasher. It is best to hand wash and let dry with the thing spread open. That said, this is a nice sturdy product and works exactly as you would want. Wish it had little silicon feet so I could use it in a non-stick pan, but you cant have everything (especially for under $10). I recommend.

I use this in my 1-quart pot, and it fits perfectly. Steams veggies to perfection in no time, and cooking is hassle-free thanks to the stem with ring that you can use to lift it out of the pot. Word of caution - the stem did fall off in the dishwasher, but I'd loaded it in a precarious position so the stem was right in the line of fire of the jets. Recommend you hand wash the product, or be careful about where in the dishwasher you load it.

I love using a metal steamer to cook veggies. I think they taste better. I have tried others and found that the metal flaps on the sides fall off because they aren't secured well enough. So, I decided to try this one. It feels kind of flimsy out of the box, but I have to say that it holds up really well. It has a small base so it fits in small pots and the opening of the basket also makes it fit into large pots too. So, very flexible depending on how many veggies you want to make. The basket flaps do not fall off at all. The middle hook for pulling it out works well for me. It's easy to wash because it is sturdy even though it feels thin so you can really give it a good wash without fearing it's going to fall apart. Very happy with this.

We have steamer baskets at home that we use for most meals (in a large frying pan with it fully open is a great way to do corn-on-the-cob). We are furnishing our summer home and brought our old Revere ware to use here (It's belonged to my wife's parents). We bought a steamer basket from a brick and mortar store that sells stuff for your bed, and bath and even more :). Unfortunately the basket was too big to fit any of our pots so I bought two items from Amazon. This item and Steamer Basket Stainless Steel Vegetable Folding Collapsible Insert for Various Size Pots by Delightful Chef . This one was the less expensive. It has three legs and a handle to pull the steamer out of the vessel. All of them are "welded" to the basket. The "handle" is s thin post with a ring at the top. It works like a steamer basket. I expect it to last a long time. I didn't give this a five star rating because I've only had it for three weeks and I have no idea how well it will wear. If I remember I'll come back next year and upgrade (or downgrade) the rating depending on how well it's lasting.

Stupid me didn't even know how to work this at first. Duh. Never had a steamer before. I put it in a medium sized pot and simply 'pulled' the hole open. The steamer popped open to the edges of the pot. It didn't just flop open, there is some 'tension' to the sides which is nice. It will open only as wide as you want it to. So you can use a wide pot, but you don't have to open the basket all the way. Did the same in a larger soup pot, and it ALMOST met the edges of this very large pot. This steamer opens pretty wide. And it's stable. No tipping or wobbling. The 3 little 'legs' keep the food out of the water. They're not overly tall, but they work well, unless you decide to put half a pot of water in! LOVE IT. Love the little ring at the top to pull it out. No rust or discoloration yet. I am now officially steam crazy.

This came with the legs and center handle detached. They snapped in, but not in any permanent way. The steamer worked once. After that, the metal slats that make up the bowl of the steamer began snapping off. Soon the whole thing was in pieces in my hands. I looked at the image and it's a different one than they sent me. I also read other reviews and some people seemed to have received a different one. I'm returning this and pretty annoyed at this company and at Amazon for wasting my time. This is an extremely cheaply and poorly made piece of junk.

The first one they sent was damaged (legs/feet bent badly) including damage to the item's packaging but NO damage to the shipping box. So I asked for a replacement. The replacement shipped in a PADDED ENVELOPE and was also bent, but hardly as bad. This is a shipping mistake on Amazon's part. This is a beautiful, well-made product, typical of NORPRO. But Amazon's not taking the care to ship a first-class product in a first-class shipping package. BUY THE PRODUCT - but buy it elsewhere. (in person if you can!)

My wife discovered this and its been amazing to steam our baby's veggies. We put the steamer with veggies in it in a pot with a little water. Make sure that the water level does not touch the veggies. We cover the pot and let the veggies steam. Sometimes we need to refill the pot with some more water when the level goes down. This thing looks out of a sci-fi movie and will fit most size pots. I wash it in the top rack of the dishwasher and its sill good as new after a few months of use. Its a good value and very functional.
