Not your traditional children's book
It's Walliams after all, so the fact that this book contains some discernable differences from usual and customary children's books shouldn't come as a shock. That having been said, it's very well written and brilliantly illustrated. Happy to have made my grandson one of the first Southern Californians to have this book.

An Unwise Depiction
I loved his first picture book about the Elephant so looked forward eagerly to his new book. The pictures by Tony Ross were great. The story's preimise was good but I found a page or two offensive. I buy picture books to read to kids I work with. They are k to 2. I was planning on reading this book to the ones and twos but I found the "fart" reference, they called it a burp. would be not a wise page to read to them. They, I am sure would find it funny but I would feel uncomfortable. Then the story, at the end, fell apart. The one hippo stranded forever on the moon was disquieting. Maybe he should write a sequel where the hippo gets rescued.

Not one for our collection!
Received this as a gift for my 3 year old daughter. The book looks beautiful, the illustrations are lovely, BUT the message - no way - lie about doing something first, and get all the credit for it, steal someone else's rocket and abandon someone. Sorry - not the message I want to give my daughter. I do not even want to give it away - as not a message I want to share. I am surprised at some of the good reviews, maybe they have not read it. Yes, I know it is just a story, but tricky to explain!

Left for dead
Too much negative behaviour. Igniting small animals against their will, passive aggressive tone, abandoning an astronaut on the moon to die alone, lots of poor messaging

Highly recommend
Highly recommend... even effective for our 7 months old son... of course depends how it's presented to the kid but surely will help to increase the imaginary power of your child

Disappointing from Walliams.
Rather disappointed by the dishonest ending. I gave Walliams the benefit of the doubt and tried it. Neither I nor my 4 year old liked it.

Falls flat, even at 1/6 of Earth's gravity
I was very disappointed. The story was depressing and the attempts at humour fell flat. I'm a huge Roal Dahl fan and many have billed Walliams as a successor. Based on this book, I fail to see it. Walliams fails to understand what made Dahl's dark humour work and instead of leaving you amused and uplifted, he leaves you wishing you hadn't read the book. It is missing heart and a moral turn.
