Can i play this without playing the others

Short answer: Yes.Longer answer: As others have said, every numbered Final Fantasy game is an entirely separate, self-contained story that requires no knowledge of previous games. The only exceptions to this rule are 10-2 (a direct sequel to 10) and 13-2 / 13 Lightning Returns (direct sequels to 13). The Final Fantasy games often share certain recurring themes (e.g. spell-names, item-names, creatures, etc) which loosely tie them together, but (apart from those direct sequels) there are no ongoing characters or storylines of any kind, and you can play the Final Fantasy games in any order you like.
