GEARWRENCH 2 or 3 Jaw Internal/External Ratcheting Puller Set, 2 and 5 Ton - 3627

So, I wanted to use this a little bit before I put up a review. The first time I used it, the jaws slipped off the 6204 bearing a couple times, so I had to hold the jaws tight around the rear of the bearing to pull it off. It was not extremely tight, but it was frustrating. I nearly returned it; however, I've used it probably, 25 times in the last few weeks and have not had that happen again, and have been very happy with it since. I could do without the ratcheting teeth on the puller end of the jaws, but the jaw profile is great, and the acme style threaded arbor is very well made. I never use an impact on a puller, but when lightly lubed this pulls very tight bearings off with ease. I like the case very much, it keeps the puller clean from road dust, which keeps the screw clean, which makes pulling easier. For reference, I've pulled thousands of bearings and pulleys for over 25 years, and this is easily a favorite. It only has about 4" of reach, but that takes care of 75% of what I do. I mostly use the 5 ton, but both work well. I'm glad I withheld judgement until I spent some more time using it. I also have a much more expensive German puller set by Kukko that is phenomenal in it's own way, however I find myself reaching for the Gearwrench puller simply because it's a little faster to get into action.

I wanted to remove the drive wheel on my snow blower to add anti seize grease. The wheel was rested on. This gear puller along with a little heat did the trick of removing the wheel. I then cleaned up both axels adding anti seize and inter tubes to both wheels.

As a “shade tree” mechanic I buy mostly Gearwrench stuff nowadays. I ordered this puller set to remove the brake pulley from a 1969 Sears suburban transaxle for a rebuild. Pulley has probably never been removed. There wasn’t enough clearance to get standard 3 jaw pullers that I bought years ago off the import boat. The lower profile jaws easily cleared the case. The indexing feature made setting them up a 1 handed affair. The most difficult part was figuring out how to install the jaws in the yoke. A couple hits with my GW 17mm impact on my high torque Ridgid 1/2” cordless, and the pulley popped off. Saved me lots of time and headaches.

Hard case and the metal used is great. 15 out of 10 for the price I paid.

Wait for it to go on sale. Other than that great kit with quality tooling
