Good value.
I've tried several coffees in the past year. This ITALIAN Dark Roast Whole bean – 5 LB is perhaps not the *best* coffee, but it ranks very highly. The price makes it even better. At $.52/ounce, it blows away other coffees that I might like better. I'm not finished experimenting, not by a long shot, but this is very good coffee that I'm willing to serve to family and guests. I like the 5 pound bag. I grind about twice a week, about 1/2 pound at a time. The remainder gets resealed, and put inside of an airtight plastic canister. It stays fresh right up until the last batch of grinding. What does it taste like? Well, it has that sorta chocolatey taste that people talk about. There are flavors that linger on the upper pallete and at the back of the tongue. It's just a nice, full bodied, satisfying taste (and aroma) that competes with many other, much more expensive brands of coffee. Some reviewers have commented on the oily beans. Yes, these are somewhat oily. Those oils contain the aromatics that give coffees their distinctive flavors. It seems to me that those oily beans are a requirement for good, dark roast coffees. I'm giving this coffee 5 stars.

NOS in the coffee pot!
If you’re looking for a bold, and wonderful flavored coffee, that a few sips is about the equivalent of a 40 shot of NOS in a gasoline engine! Look no further! This coffee is NOT for the faint of heart lol! This is in my opinion is definitely for those who have a refined taste for coffee! Great coffee!

A trip back to old Brooklyn
Ok, I write reviews on everything. If I like, or love I review just as much as if I don't. I waited a few weeks before buying Brooklyn Coffee, now that I have tried it I will not wait again before I buy it again. Not just being an old Brooklyn Boy myself displaced into rural upstate NY. I reminisce about the fine foods, pastries, and great coffee of Brooklyn. This coffee brings me back to the small out of the way shops with the smells that permeate your soul with heavenly delightfulness. A wonderful aroma from a dark bean that not only fills your senses with joy as it is brewing, but brings pleasure from your first sip to your last with its bold, full bodied, and smooth taste. This is great by itself or a touch of cream. A shot of Amaretto makes it a desert to be remembered.

Really good coffee
Really good coffee. My wife and I like dark roast with a rich strong flavor. This is a great deal for the cost. We would like a little stronger brew but don’t want to pay double or triple the cost of this fine coffee to get it.

UPDATE
*UPDATED REVIEW* After further experimentation with the water/coffee ratio, I discovered that I needed to use more coffee-to-water ratio rather than less to eliminate the bitter aftertaste. Once I found the perfect recipe for my electric percolator, I now really enjoy this coffee. I love coffee -- strong, flavorful, European-style coffee. I always grind my own coffee beans, and I only perk. I was so excited to try this brand because it checked off so many boxes for me: the superior Arabica bean, dark roasted to a (hopefully) deep, satisfying flavor. At its best, dark roast coffee should have a heavy body with low acidity and deep, sweet flavor notes. Unfortunately, this coffee disappoints on most counts. The bean does have a dark, slightly oily appearance, and upon opening the bag, I was treated to an enticing aroma. However, the end product resulted in a mediocre, slightly bitter coffee with a strong, weird aftertaste. I experimented with different grinds and amounts, but nothing yielded anything close to the expected result.

Sooo good i love it when it brews for the morning
I've had the French roast coffee beans from New York, but I'll turn around and tell you, I sure do like the Italian roast, dark roast, oh, my Lord, I love good coffee and I mean good coffee, I will pay the price if it's good coffee and between the 2 French roast and Italian. Dark roast, I like them both, but my number one is the Italian dark roast. It's fantastic. I love this coffee.

Fresh, perfectly roasted and delectable
Fresh, dark and rich. Really large bag. Hubby smells it brewing and it wakes him up. You have to clean the burr grinder more often as is with most dark roasts I buy. It's top shelf, rich and a hint of chocolate. The beans are vacuum sealed, fresh and roasted right.

Not a good start with an even worse end.
Just received this order of the 5lb bag. I will update this review once I open the bag BUT.... The bag was covered in dust. I'm pretty sure that means it was not roasted a week ago (as their advertisement states). It also is not air tight as it won't stay under vacuum. I'm about to open it and divide it into smaller batches for storage. Let's see what happens. I'll be back. Update: I'm sure the coffee would have been good had it been fresher and indeed sealed. For those not aware... The one way valve is placed on a bag because fresh roasted beans give off a gas not very pleasant for beans. So that gas is meant to escape. The valve is one way so as not to allow outside air into the beans. If you have a food saver or some sort with an accessory to remove air from bags or cans etc, you can put that accessory over the one wat valve to extract all air from the bag. The bag should now stay tight. Air tight. My bag held no vaccum what so ever. So in short - old stale beans. I contacted Olde Brooklyn Coffee and was asked how they could help. I simply asked for fresh beans. There was no reply. Nothing. I'm out $60 One star will do. If they ever get back to me, I'll update again.
