Sturdy, easy to assemble, good deal for the $$
5 stars to offset the 1 star reviews. This rack is worth every penny. Pros: It's easy to assemble It's affordable It's sturdy and well made It's sleek without looking "space shipish", I appreciate it's lower profile Cons: it's heavier than expected, but that speaks to how well it's made. It was incredibly simple to assemble. Several reviews mentioned water getting in the tubes and screws being too short, so I sealed the tube unions with butyl rubber tape (for sealing metal roofs) and the screws I used the butyl tape instead of the washers. Even then with the rubber sleeves installed I don't see water being an issue... Rust? It's has pretty thick powder coat, I don't expect that to be an issue...and if it is...big deal, it's a $100 rack. If it rusts I'll take it off, clean it up and coat it in truck bed liner U bolts were a bit long, but were easy to cut flush with the finger nuts used to secure it. As for excessive wind noise...all racks are going to cause noise, but frankly I didn't really notice anything extra. Very happy with it

Amazing rack for the price
First off, I bought this a little worried off some of the one star reviews. But I figured I’d give it a try for how cheap it is. The one star reviews say some of the following: Leaks water into pipes Rack makes A LOT of noise Rack rusts and doesn’t seal Rack is very hard to put together All of the above is wrong flat out. First off, it’s insanely easy to put together with a screwdriver and a rubber mallet. I was able to put this rack together by myself in 30 minutes. The only reason it took 30 minutes is because I didn’t read the directions at first and had to put the rubber slips on. Which leads me to, the people that said it doesn’t seal, must have failed to put it together correctly. The rubber slips seal the parts of the rods that go together, so water can’t get inside the tubes. The screws come with rubber washers, which also do the above. Now I did also seal the connections between tubes with silicone as well, because why not have extra protection. The rack does make some noise, but it’s not so loud you can’t have a conversation. If you think strapping a rack to your roof, that catches the wind won’t make any noise, you have a lot more issues with yourself than this rack. People saying their rack flew off literally didnt tighten the rack down correctly. I placed the rack on my Subaru crosstrek, and hand tightened all the nuts. Came back the next day, and then winched down the nuts with channel locks after the threads of the bolts and nuts relaxed and loosened up, as all threads do. After a 1200 mile trip, with rain and snow in some areas, the rack is still one with the car. I can grab it and literally try to move it and the car just moves instead. As for water, I broke the silicone seals when I get home and took it apart just to see, and the internals are bone dry. No water at all even through moderate rain storms driving 80 mph. Another review mentioned bolts being so long they scratched the tip of the car. First off if the bolts scratched the top, you put the bolts on upside down. Watch the YouTube video or read the directions, the bolts face upward away from your car. That being said they are long for my roof rack cross bars. But remember this is a universal roof rack basket, it has to accommodate very thick cross bars also. If the length bothers you, simply go to Home Depot and buy shorter bolts for $2. Or angle grind off the excess as I did. That being said, you have to keep in mind this is a rack that’s less than $100. It’s going to be a $100 rack. That doesn’t mean it’s junk, just simply don’t compare it to a $400 Thule, because it’s not a $400 Thule. It’s a very strong roof rack for under $100. And it does everything that you will use it for, just so long as you don’t try and overload it past it’s weight rating. To sum it all up, for less than $100, this rack is amazing. It’s strong, extremely light, super easy to put together, and with a little extra silicone and time very easy to seal up for poor weather. Remember, hand tighten nuts, wait a day for the threads to settle, then Chanel lock them down. Buy this rack, and enjoy your cars MPG, while still having great cargo space.

Cheap but value oriented basket that does the job
For the price it does the job. I drove 4K miles of dirty wet winter riding after installing it and it has held up well. The basket fits my 2021 Audi Q3 with factory bars with ease. I was able to easily add three decent size pieces of luggage and I used a dry bag. My qualms is that the screws supplied are crap and easily strip so be careful. I haven’t had any signs of rust but many people have shown the basket starts developing surface rust along the welds. The basket is light which makes it easy to lift. The aerodynamics I would say are bad. Too many open spots that create a ton of wind noise. The noise is bearable when at 50mph but anything greater the noise becomes very loud but this will depend on your noise tolerance. The rack fits on my aero bars but the hardware has no locking mechanism if that matters and I found the clamping hardware to be a but tedious to install trying to clamp each side evenly. Once installed though the rack is rock solid and isn’t going anywhere. Again for the price this costs a fraction of what a high end Yakima or Thule basket would cost yet essentially does the same job. The 150lb weight limit is fine for me but might be limited for others.

Great rack for the price
I really needed a roof rack to accommodate my belongings for a long trip. I checked out several and decided on this Maxxhaul. I noticed one used in excellent shape and picked it up for $86. It arrived quickly, in great shape and all parts still packaged and there. Within fifteen minutes of dragging box inside I started to put it together. I had watched one video on here 2 times before ordering and it went together quickly as the printed instructions are terrible. I didn't even have to use a rubber mallet, it slid together like it was supposed to. I took it outside and lifted it up onto my Rogue, stepped back looking at it from front and back and repositioning a little to get centered. I then put the wedges and straps on but not tight, stepped back again and made sure it was still centered then began tightening everything up. I had 2 issues, the first was the rubber washers putting sides together pushed up over the screws so I just took it off and screw went in a little tighter, the second issue was the rubber plugs wouldn't fit all the way down. I will recheck them in a couple of days and see if I can push down further. All around pretty pleased with it and myself. I am a 74 year old female and did this all by myself.

Great product at this price point!
I read the other reviews first and concur with almost all that was mentioned. For the price, this is a great rack. First thing I did was cover all welds with black silicone. Next I put on a few coats of flat black chassis coat rubberized spray on. Next I assembled - and was ready thanks to other reviewers - two holes did not line up properly, so I drilled and finished connecting (of note, I put locktite on each screw prior to installing). Next up, I slid the sleeves over and sealed each sleeve with black silicone to ensure water stays out. I then removed the factory decal, which was already peeling (used adhesive remover- cane right off). I then removed the front plate, rubberized front rails, then cleaned the plate area with alcohol and sprayed the front plate). I let all dry for around 16 hours, then reinstalled front plate and put black silicone over those screws. I then sprayed over the screws and silicone with rubberized spray. Let’s that fray a few hours, then put the rack on the vehicle. All in, 1.5 cans of spray was used (I was generous when painting). Factor in the cost of paint and silicone added around $30 and at this price point, it is an incredible deal (you would most likely need to do to any rack purchased (i have had to do to others I’ve had on other vehicles, and those were nearly 5 times this price). I plan to add a decal at some point (weighing my options). Installing on vehicle was straightforward and simple. I used a lot of strength pulling on rack and also drove with a cooler on roof as a test run - seems very stable. Is all of the aforementioned necessary - not sure, but I want to take preventive measures against rust (paint out of the box was definitely lower quality, but at this price, I didn’t mind doing a little work and was prepared thanks to other reviews). Yes, I recommend. Take your time, don’t rush, and with a little work, you’ll have a rack well worth the time and starting price.

Easy installation
I really like this roof rack. It looks nice on my 2020 RAV4. I read other reviews about it rusting, so I coated it twice, once with truck bed spray, and another with a glaze to make it shiny again. I also had to get different screws, same size but I needed something more than a screw driver to put it on. So I got some that use a ratchet. worked like a charm. Other issue, had to do with the rubber stoppers that go on top of the UBOLTS. I tighted it well, and then the top of the UBolts were to long for the stoppers. I pushed them down as much as I could. Will use a rubber mallet on them tomorrow, but if I cant get them to go flush, so the air doesnt take them off, I may try to find some other ones that are a bit longer. But... I really like it. seems just right size to me. I got a cargo bag that fits it perfectly. So it is worth the money, even tho I had to do some extra things for it. I would buy it again. And use all the same precautions. I would also recommend it to others. Just make sure you take the extra steps. I have only just put it on, and it will be raining all night and day tomorrow, will see if I have protected it enough to prevent rust in the next month. And I will be back.

Packaged like a 3 year old did it.
For just over $100 this is not that bad of a deal even with the fixes and mods I felt I had to do to make it last. Maxxhaul has no idea how to package a product. This is in a basic large cardboard box with ZERO packing foam or protection around the corners. And of course all of the corners of the backet had scuffs down to the raw metal. There were also scuffs on the side rails because again, not packing protection. Maxxhaul, if you want better review learn how to package your products! With that out of the way, I had planned on using silicone around the connection points and hitting it with an extra couple coats of paint anyway. But you should not have to do that if you don't want to. If I would not have, it would have rusted immediately. So basically what I did was after assembling it, I siliconed around the rubber screw covers and around the 4 screws that hold the wind deflector on. Then I used some black textured truck bed spray paint and did 2 coats making sure it get over all the spot welds. That leads me to my other gripe. The spot welds that hold the thinner cross bars to the main frame are VERY tiny. Like concerningly small. I made sure to hit those with a little extra spray paint to hopefully keep them from rusting. So end product after my mods looks pretty good and I'm happy with the way it turned out. I happily painted over the Maxxhaul logo (which was small and off the the bottom right on the wind deflector) Not at all like the advertised pictures. Which is fine. It was getting either removed or covered up anyway. The mounting system is pretty easy and decently designed..#. Its very easy to mount but you many have to make yet another mod. For me the rubber caps that go over the U-bolts as you finish installing the roof basket stick WAY up over the cross bars. So when you put stuff in the roof basket like say, a cooler, there are several spots that are not flat/level. And you need to have the rubber stopper installed or the U-bolts will rust. So,, I ended up using a grinder to cut off the excess bolt and trimmed down the rubber stopper to be lower profile. Its didn't completely fix the problem but it helped by about 1 inch. In conclusion- This is not a "bad" roof basket. It is a cheap roof basket. And you DEFINITELY get what you pay for when it comes to stuff like this. However with some very cheap mods it can become a decent buy. You do not need a ton of experience painting or using silicon sealant. Just take your time and do it right and until your happy with it. Considering that Thule or Rola roof basket are double-triple the price, I can deal with some imperfections. But again, Maxxhaul really needs to address how badly these are packaged. They could really do their customers a solid and deliver a damage-free product with a little extra effort.

Good quality product.
Bought this summer for our VW Atlas Cross Sport and it fits great and is very well made. We were able to put a carry case and several camp chairs in it and had no issues. You do get a bit of road noise from it, but it didn't bother us. We put a piece of plywood between our carry case and the basket so that the bolts wouldn't damage our bag. It worked great.
