Can the drip tray be removed to fit a taller mug under the spout

You could remove the metal grate and still make coffee and that would give you about an inch. Just would need to make sure the drip tray is dry. To answer the question, no the tray mechanism cannot be removed and remain operational.

What's the maximum volume of coffee this can brew in one cycle? 8oz, 10oz, 12oz, etc.

The E4 model can deliver up 8 ounces per cup - one or two cups per cycle and three different strength levels.
