Overall: a fantastic alternative for those interested in macro photography that are looking to save some money.My experience:I'm highly interested in macro photography, but didn't want to save up and spend a few thousand dollars on a new lens. This attachment was recommended to me by a user on [...] (a must for photography inspiration!), and I'm very pleased with the product. I see now what the other users meant about the extremely shallow depth of field: it takes a lot of practice, and a lot of patience. If you're not a patient person, then this attachment is probably not for you. It took about 30 shots for me to get a well-focused photo of my brother's eye, up close, because even the SMALLEST movement will switch the focus from the color of the eye to the lid, or contact lens, or the eye lashes. As soon as I got it, however, it was well worth it. I've taken some beautiful photos of bugs and single dandelion seeds, and let me tell you, you haven't seen anything in nature until you shoot a real macro photo (zooming in on the photo is incredible, and my family and friends are shocked at the detail we can't see with our own eyes, that I'm able to capture).Downside:While the sqeeze-into-place attachment is very convenient for the need to take photos quickly, my lens cap (52mm) doesn't fit onto the attachment, so I have to keep the piece in it's original container. This could definitely be improved. I might look into getting a 43mm cap to see if it would fit onto the macro attachment.Some tips if you have the attachment:It works best on telephoto lenses, but if you try it on a wide-angle lens, and zoom out, the image is encircled in black, which can be a fun effect if you want to use it.Always set the focus to manual, and move back and forth with your body to focus.

If you are interested in macro photography, but not ready to invest heavily in expensive lenses, this a great way to test out macro photography and fall in love with the tiny world that is right in our sight yet can't be seen with normal cameras and lenses. Is it as good as a full dedicated lens? No, but I have gotten some very good images with it. Is it convenient? Yes, absolutely. This is a clip on that will snap onto most lenses so you can drop it in your camera bag and snap it on and off your lens which allows you to quickly go from landscape to macro and back again while other photographers are fumbling with changing lenses and exposing their cameras to dust and dirt in the field. I give it a solid 4 especially for beginners and amateur photographers who just want to have some fun without breaking the bank. My review is for the DCR 250 which is 2.5x magnification. There is a DCR 150 which is 1.5x magnification as well. This lens basically reduces the minimum focus distance for your lens. It will not work on all lenses despite the almost universal clip-on function. If you have a long lens but it already has a close focus distance -- say 10 inches. That is 10 inches from the focus which is inside the lens/camera body. If you reduce that focus distance -- your new focus distance might be 3-4 inches where the lens is almost touching the object (which will still work) OR the focus distance might be inside the lens (if the lens is more than 3-4 inches in length) in which case the lens will never be able to focus. You will need to check your lens carefully for compatibility. The DCR-250 snap-on works great. It really gets you close to the subject. The depth of field is really narrow but it allows you to get really good images even with kit lens, you just gotta work with it. For the price, I think it’s a really good value if you'd like to try some macro photography. It fits my 58mm lenses and I can use it on a 77mm (snap in hood.) I’m really enjoying the images I capture with it

I own a Canon Powershot SX40 camera. The lens readily fits the lens on my Canon without buying or adding any additional fittings. This is not a true Macro lens; it works in conjunction with the camera's built in telephoto lens, to allow the telephoto lens to focus close to objects. The combination of the EXTENDED telephoto and DCR0250 makes a very powerful macro photographic lens system.For the lens to work, you must extend your built in telephoto lens; the more the camera telephoto lens is extended, the more magnified the subject. The camera should be put into MACRO focus mode to aid in focusing, but focus is achieved by physically moving the camera back and forth. The lens has a very narrow depth of field, and a short depth of focus. I bought a Cowboy Studios Macro Focusing Rail Set to aid focusing the camera Cowboystudio Macro Focusing Rail Set with 4 Way, Fine Control and Camera Focusing Rail for Macro Photography. I highly recommend that you invest in a 4 way focusing rail set for use with the DCR-250 lens. I already owned a Bogen Manfrotto tripod, but I needed a sturdy tripod for tabletop use; I bought a Silk Tabletop Tripod (Slik Mini-pro Dq Table-top Tripod), which I will review.The lens quality is excellent. It allows the camera to photograph microscopic details (literally). I took a photograph of a prepared microscope slide containing a small slice of flower bud; the detail was perfect, and showed all of the organelles. I also photographed several individual snowflakes. I'm putting the photo of the microscope slide and snowflakes on Amazon with the DCR-250, so you can see the quality of the lens. I took 2 photos of 2 tiny snowflakes laying together; in one photograph I focused on the flake furthest from the camera and in the other photo I focused on the near flake. This demonstrates the short depth of focus and how critical it is to focus by moving the camera.The photographs of objects using the DCR-250, are crisp, detailed, and beautiful. This Macro lens makes a welcome addition to my photographic equipment.

This is one of the best bang-for-the-buck purchases I’ve made in photography.I shoot 1:1 macro on a Nikkor Z 105mm MC lens. Adding this Raynox to the end of the lens immediately gives me 1.84:1 magnification, which is a huge jump in magnification.The image looks wonderfully clear, and I have no complaints about the image quality. It’s also very easy to use.I also appreciate that I can turn my non-macro lenses into a macro lens for situations where I opt not to carry my dedicated macro lens. This works so well that it almost makes me feel like I don’t even need a dedicated macro lens…Anyways, this is an awesome product.

I’ve only had the Raynox DCR-250 for like 2 days, but I’m already blown away by what it can do. I paired it with my Nikon Z50II, and the amount of detail it captures is incredible.
