This is an absolutely wonderful tool. I have wanted a drawing board for years, but the ones available locally have those bulky, wire mechanisms for the straight edge. A lot of people who buy them seem to return them as well, a bad sign in my view, as they are quite pricey. It looks flimsy on the web, but I have found it to be surprisingly light, sturdy, and rigid. Everything just works. I am an illustrator, and love using traditional tools to produce my work. The straight edge orientation is easily and quickly changed, and my set squares glide smoothly across its edge. There are similar options available for about 1/4 the price of this one. I find that the "made in Germany" label was worth the extra cash in this instance, as my experience with materials from China have been a crap shoot. Highly recommended.

Love this, should have bought it a few years ago. Makes basic drawing easier. Operates smoothly and locks easily. I recommend it. I was thinking of getting an old drafting machine, glad I found this instead, much cheaper and easier to move around, more portable.

This is a good board in its own right, with a good T-square slide setup, but... The paper retention clip at the bottom of the board (lower right corner) pushes the edge of the paper up about a millimeter, such that the alignment groove for the bottom edge is worthless. The optional drafting head lacks a protractor, so setting it to an angle is more difficult than it needs to be. The optional carrying bag is not in stock, with no indication of when it will ever return. Makes is difficult to take the board into the field. The scales are only in millimeters, which is less than convenient for us in North America. All in all, the Koh-I-Noor board with all of its limitations is a better value for many people's needs.

It's smaller than I expected but it will work for me. I recommend getting the angle attachment. It's expensive but I'm glad I got it.

I use this drawing board to plan out my wood making projects. I’m no expert in mechanical drawing, but this board does everything I need perfectly. It allows me to lock down my paper, and I can lock down the horizontal ruler, as well. It stays put and I never worry about it moving around like another brand I tried. You’ll want to purchase a couple of triangles and some paper, a protractor and a compass, pencils and eraser, and you’ll be all set. And a brush to sweep away eraser crumbs. It uses the metric system, so I scale my drawings to 3cm per foot. I’m very happy with this system.

I like this drawing board. You need a large paper size if you want to clamp the paper down. It's plastic but solid enough.

I should have purchased this years ago. One of my hobbies is woodworking and I usually draft a plan before starting a project. Over the years I have made many plans. This drafting machine is a definite time saver. It appears to be well made. The horizontal bar slides smoothly in grooves and I don't have to worry about a T not being against the side of the drawing board as I do when I use my old T-square. When I purchased it, I also purchased the Variomatic drafting head. The drafting head is a nice device and is very handy when doing isometric drawings. It can displace the traditional triangles although in some cases they are quicker to use. Since the drafting head mounts on the upper side of the bar it is difficult to use on the bottom section of the paper since you can only bring the bar down to the bottom of the machine table. I usually mount the paper toward the top of the machine table. In summary, I am glad that I passed up the cheaper machines found on Amazon and spent the extra money to get this device. You get what you pay for.

I bought one of these forty years ago, and used it for many years before losing track of it as life moved on. I recently decided to get back into some drafting. This is still at least as good if not better than the original. I think that nobody else makes one of this quality.

I bought this item along with his drafting head and the soft case and I can say that my 12 years old son is absolutely fascinated about it. Right out of the box he could make his first basic technical drawing like he saw on his youtube tutorials. WOW!!!!! From what I saw while he using it, the locking mechanism is a little bit stiff out of the box, but after few locks it is normal. The red / green semaphore is intuitive and just fun to watch. 100% the parallelism is repeatable, even without locking, I saw this and is amazing, I did not expect from a plastic item to be so precise. You can use this board with A3 and A4 paper. With A4 you must pay attention with the sliding ruler when you return from outside of the paper. Otherwise the long clip is just perfect. I will buy also some A3 paper, but A4 is also good. The plastic is top quality, every engraving is sharp. The color scheme is beautiful and easy to see: deep blue, dark gray and milky white. I bought for him other Staedtler products in time, including the Mars 555 compass and I can say it's a formula 1 on geometry. He is using it like a pro also. At 53 Euro I don't regret a cent when it comes to my son and I think for school or for hobby in general this is a good, top quality item. In my opinion and I am outside of the problem, it is not my field, maybe Staedtler could invent some additional legs to tilt the board a little, otherwise I saw that on a normal horizontal table the position of my kid is a little bit uncomfortable or he is a little bit to small for it - I don't know :)) Anyway in conclusion, if he is happy, I am happy and this item deserves 5 stars!

It works perfectly, and stores away nicely when not in use. Excellent quality with smooth operation and accuracy. I bought the STAEDTLER LR 661 13 storage bag. The box the board came in fits in the bag and the board in the box. So it is portable and protected. I also bought the add-on STAEDTLER 660 20 Mars Drafting Head which also works well when needed, but I mostly just use a triangle instead.
