Terrific sounding CD Player. Great quality & discrete add-on to my my one box amp/ streaming HiFi system.

FiiO DM15 R2R CD Player Although I enjoy listening to music, I have not had a conventional ‘stereo system’ for many, many years, and since the demise of Apple’s iPod Nano and Shuffle ranges of portable digital audio playback devices, which incidentally which I greatly enjoyed, I have been occasionally using iTunes for Windows and a Sony Walkman (Model NW-E394) which now also appears to be discontinued, and so a Sony replacement would involve an expensive upgrade to model with features such as video playback, which I do not need. As I have an extensive CD disc collection which I have not listened to for a decade or two, I thought now might be the time to look for a new CD player. As a person who does not generally speaking keep up with the latest tech developments in audio and video I was delighted to find the FiiO DM15 R2R. A standalone CD player that needed no external amplifier or stereo monitors (speakers) was exactly what I had needed for a number of years. Although I have no interest in using the DM15 as a portable device in the same way I used the portable MP3 playback devices, the DM15 does allow the user to bypass the rechargeable internal battery and draw electrical power directly from a regular domestic mains power wall socket. I think that the feature that allows to DM15 to be powered from a mains power wall socket is somewhat overlooked in the product description, and perhaps deserves greater emphasis, as for me this feature was the decisive factor in making the purchase. In fact I would be happy if the DM15 had no internal battery at all, the battery and portability is just something I do not need, marvellous though the technology undoubtedly is. For many years and for a number of reasons I have exclusively listened to music using headphones and so a compact CD player which needs no external amplifier or stereo monitors was the perfect solution for me for listening to music at home. The FiiO DM15 is a cost effective alternative to a conventional setup of audio separates such as a combination of ‘separates’ including CD player, amplifier and stereo monitors, and the DM15 also occupies much less space. I will not review the many other features such as Blutooth, the remote control unit, the ability to ‘rip’ CDs, or outputting to external stereo monitors and so forth because this is not what I bought the DM15 for. A couple of things worth mentioning though, firstly it may not be clear from the product description or the provided user instructions that all one needs to power the DM15 with mains electricity from a three pin wall socket is a phone charger – I’m currently using an old Apple power adapter (Model A2167) that has a USB-A socket, and an old Belkin power adapter (Model WCA002) with a USB-A socket. Both of these chargers will work with the USB-C to USB-A power cable supplied with the DM15. Chargers of this type are also used to charge the DM15’s internal battery, though the battery can also be charged via a laptop with a USB-A socket. The DM15 does not come with its own mains power adapter/battery charger. Something that perhaps might be useful to raise at this point is that I have used a power adapter other than those mentioned above, and the well known brand in question caused an intermittent problem with not being able to power-up the DM15 and with audible ‘clicks’ during playback. Apple and Belkin are the only brands of power adapter I can recommend as reliable with the DM15 as these are the only ones I have personal experience of. There may of course be other reliable brands but I have not used them. And the second thing worthy of mention is that I had a problem with powering-up the DM15 which almost caused me to return the DM15 as a faulty unit. The problem was actually with an incorrect instruction in the manufacturer’s Quickstart User Guide. The guide instructs the user to give the power button a “short” press to power-up, which is wrong, to power-up the DM15 the power button needs to be given a ‘long’ press. A simple mistake that could be quite defeating to the user, as was the case for an hour or two for me. The DM15 has a nice weight to it and feels like a well made high quality device. Some may not like the small operating buttons on the DM15’s front panel, but I have adapted to them quickly, and for those who feel they might struggle with the small size of the buttons, the provided remote control unit would surely help. Based on my limited experience so far, I highly recommend the FiiO DM15 R2R.

The player developed a fault after playing just one cd and then failed to load anymore, despite preforming a factory reset. I am returning this for a refund. Amazon have refunded me, 5 stars for their customer service.

Let's start with the positives. This is an amazingly detailed and punchy sounding little cd player. It's certainly a step above it's little brother the DM13 in sound performance. Although I wouldn't say it's an easy choice to upgrade from one to the other, unless you really do want that r2r dac. It's feature packed and the ability to use it as a dac from a phone or any device with a USB out is pretty useful. There's plenty of volume in the headphone amp for everything except stupidly hard to drive headphones, mine powers the fiio ft1/ ft1 pro/ audio technica ath mx50's and a few easy to drive in ear headphones, Overall it seems the perfect package......except.. The on unit controls.. are just too small. I can barely see the buttons, let alone the text for the button. It's ridiculous. Another thing that is starting to grind my gears, is the lid. It closes with a magnet and that magnet is fairly strong enough to stop it opening accidentally if it's flipped upside down. That really does make opening it a two handed operation.plus the hinge has some play in it so it let's the side down on quality. The original dm13 lid with its spring release catch was much better. The glass lid is also just a target for fingerprints, no matter how hard i try to avoid touching it. Pick it up and it gets prints. Open the lid..more prints.. There's not much else to complain about ,given its feature set and exemplary audio performance. But, those buttons wind me up to the point of wanting to return it. Time will tell. But at least it has a remote, although it's a bit cheap n cheerful. I cant help thinking a better remote might take the sting out of those invisible buttons. This is probably a 3 star review, but the sound quality, overall sound performance and feature set take it to a 4.

Well built and with excellent skip protection built in. Player's inbuilt R2RDAC sounds very similar in quality to their £150 K11 R2R DAC. You can however upgrade the sound by bypassing its internal DAC via a Coaxial Digital out on the back of the player and connect this to a higher quality more expensive external DAC such as the Fiio k13, k17 or k19 as well as a host of other external DAC's from Topping, Chord, SMSL etc. By doing this the sound quality is greatly improved. All in all a good quality, highly convenient way to re-explore your CD Collection on the move. Highly recommended at £250.

Great product, however the packing from Amazon was at best terrible, the cd player's box saved the product, as the envelope type packing had been ripped and the CD player was only just staying in the cardboard envelope. Come on Amazon put it in a proper box next time.🤔🤨

Nothing else on the market really met my needs like this thing does, it plays CDs wonderfully and is easy to use. The sound from it is warm and extremely pleasant to listen to in a way that other devices I've used can't really compare to. It functions perfectly as a high quality USB DAC for use at my desk. HOWEVER... at least on my unit... it emits a continuous whining sound from the unit itself (not from the audio outputs) that really has started driving me insane, as I am particularly sensitive to these sorts of things. Whenever I switch it on, it produces a whine that I haven't been able to stop, and I can hear it from across my room which is really annoying. I chatted with a support agent and tried the troubleshooting steps they provided, the only step that was given that had any effect was running it exclusively from the battery, which wouldn't stop the whining but instead just shift it up to a higher frequency that I find even more annoying. It really is a terrible shame as I was so looking forward to using this as my primary desk DAC and CD player. Hopefully their future products have better QC. Really a terrible shame for an otherwise absolutely amazing audio product.

First class product, excellent Bluetooth connection. Great sound

Not the cheapest cd player out there but but so worth it. I mean you buy it once and forget about all others. Great sound, portability, features, design even though buttons are a bit small but it's not hard to get used to it. It can be used on the desktop and on the go so good battery life.... So many pros and barely one I wouldn't say con just buttons could be bigger.

Der DM15 setzt klanglich gegenüber dem bereits überragenden DM13 noch eins drauf. Er kann durch die Mega Bass Taste und die verschiedenen Equalizer Einstellungen jeder Klangvorliebe angepasst werden. Der fast schon analoge, weit aufgefächerte Klang begeistert schlicht und einfach, so dass man oft auch auf den heimischen HighEnd Player (Sony 777 ES Swoboda 2+) verzichtet und mit guten Kopfhörern auch auf dem DM15 sehr zufrieden ist. Der auch separat zu betreibende DA Wandler sowie der integrierte MP3 Umwandler sind nette Gimmicks, die ich aber nicht nutze. Eine CD ist am Rechner dann doch schneller umgewandelt. Die beiliegende Fernbedienung ist nicht so überflüssig wie sie zunächst scheint: die Tasten und Schalter des Bedienfeldes sind nämlich irrwitzig winzig...besser ist das Display und die tolle Verarbeitungsqualität und die vielen Anschlussmöglichkeiten Insgesamt also ein audiophiler, kleiner Wunderzwerg, der auch an größeren Kopfhörern und Anlagen eine ganz große Figur macht! Dass die Akkulaufzeit statt 9 beim DM13 nur noch 7 Stunden beträgt, ist bei den zahlreichen Verbesserungen locker zu verkraften. Sinnvolle Anschaffung dazu auf jeden Fall das tragbare Case von Fiio.

First of all, personally I do not believe any of the negative reviews FiiO has built a professional rugged OG portable CD player that exceeds my expectations. Being a 65-year-old Boomer raised in the 60's & 70's this is an incredible fantastic piece of technology that I love, it is complex but not too complex. Great design with hi-res sound quality and it just looks cool. I don't know about the battery use as I use the DC power input. Additionally, I listen too & still buy vinyl records that I record to blank cassette, & cd's for preservation of the LPs due to their cost. I love physical media that I can touch, remember, & will enjoy for the rest of my life then my children can have everything to remember & talk about the music that defined my life as well as their own lives. Don't hesitate to buy a well-built professional legacy cd player that "ROCKS" in the house, car, & outside you name it. Thanks, Amazon for the opportunity to own this amazing compact-disc player.

Suena muy bien. Tengo un par de auriculares, ambos difíciles de mover, y el DM15 los maneja sin problema; ni siquiera necesito pasar de 3/4 del volumen. El sonido es rico, detallado y con buena amplitud. El equipo se ve elegante y está muy bien construido. Después de cargar completamente la batería, escuché 4 CDs y aún tenía alrededor de un 30% restante, lo cual me parece un muy buen rendimiento. Estoy muy satisfecho con la compra, aunque hay algunos aspectos a considerar. Los botones son pequeños, y los símbolos aún más, lo que puede dificultar su uso. Sin embargo, no afecta mi calificación, ya que no es necesario estar cambiando constantemente los controles. Además, incluye un control remoto que facilita mucho la operación y con un par de dias de uso me aprendí su ubicación. Probablemente también influya que, a mis 52 años, la vista ya no es la misma 😅. En ese sentido, la pantalla sigue la misma línea: es elegante y me gusta su diseño, aunque resulta un poco pequeña. Aun así, la información se puede distinguir correctamente.

Es otro nivel. Hi Res de verdad para reivindicar los cd's como soporte físico hi fi en un mundo dominado por el mediocre streaming.
