Excellent HOME ergometer. If you want a commercial ergometer, spend 3x the money and buy a Concept 2.
First, the good; It a arrived on time in a package with slight damage by the shipper. Despite the slight shipper damage, the product inside was in perfect condition. a tribute to the packaging. Assembly was easy, it took me about 30 relaxed minutes. Kudos to the manufacturer for including tools that would be perfectly adequate to assemble the rower. Now throw these away and grab some decent 13mm and 15mm sockets, a metric allen wrench set, and a phillips screwdriver. The flimsy wrench they include will get your rower together, but they might not tighten the nuts tight enough without rounding the corners. Once it is together properly, it is by far the best rower you can buy for $323.19. I've tried lots and this is the one. It's stable, the action is predictable, its durable, it has a chain instead of a flimsy strap. In short, it's almost a Concept 2 for 1/3 the price. Having said that, if you want a Concept 2, spend $1000+ and buy one.Now to address some criticism I've seen; If it squeaks or rattles, see the paragraph above about using decent tools to assemble it. The display on the computer has decent sized numbers. It shows 3 lines at once which display 1. strokes per minute 2. distance 3. total time of each workout. Then 2 seconds later it switches to 1. stroke count 2. speed 3.kCal burned. The little icons to the left of the numbers and the words to the right are too small for me to see while I'm rowing. You just have to remember what the numbers are for when you're looking at the numbers, and it should be pretty easy to figure out. The displays for speed, distance, and kCal can't possibly be right. Don't panic. They're not perfect on ANY rower! Think about speed (and distance travelled in a given time) of a scull in the water. It's not just about how hard and fast you pull the oars. It's your entire technique including, the weather, water temperature, wind, the way you hold your blades in the water, your recovery, the way you move your weight in the boat, and a thousand other variables. The only displays you really need are strokes per minute and time of workout. The distance travelled (and kCal) are nice to look at after your workout is done to compare it against previous workouts, but you shouldn't be paying them any attention during the workout. And at the end it doesn't matter if they're "right", it just matters that it measures consistently each time. Just like it doesn't matter if your measuring tape is inches or centimeters, it just matters that you use the same units each time. The speed does vary widely while you're rowing which makes it fairly useless. Again, don't panic, it doesn't matter. Just look at the distance travelled at the end of your workout and compare that to previous workouts. Some people have criticised this ergometer for not having variable resistance. It doesn't matter, the resistance is about the same as the medium setting on a Concept 2. Any variability you need in resistance is increased by your increasing effort. Before I bought it, I wished the description would have listed the length of the machine in the folded position. It's 58 inches (about 147.3 cm), in case you're wondering. It takes about a minute to fold it up. In the video it looks like it just takes seconds, thats not true. You have to unscrew a long bolt by hand, fold the machine head, put a pin in place to hold it, then screw the long bolt in again. I have a small room and it fit's fine in the place where I used to keep a bicycle on a trainer. The 5 star rating is for a $323 ergometer. Don't think that makes it the equal of a $1000+ Concept 2 ergometer. IT IS NOT. If you want the best, or if you're using it for a commercial purpose, spend the $1000+ and buy the Concept 2. This is a 5 star HOME ergometer.I bought it because I built a sliding seat rowboat (see clcboats.com and build your own) and I wanted to keep in shape at home in the off season. I'm 6'3", 215 lbs, 52 years old and fairly fit, with a resting heart rate about 60. I've done some sort of workout almost daily for over 30 years but haven't been nuts about it (i.e. competitive) since I was in my 30's. It's an excellent piece of equipment for me, I've taken my bicycle off it's trainer and am using the floor space in the spare room for this. I use it for 30-60 minute workouts keeping my heart rate in the 130-140 range. If that sounds anything like you, and the workout you're looking for, then I highly recommend this rowing machine (aka ergometer).

Does the job pretty well
I had been using a Concept2 at my local gym, but getting there was a pain due to my work schedule. Decided I needed my own rower and while I really wanted the C2, the idea of the expense and not being motivated to use it made me shy away from one. Did some research and this model popped up and for about 1/3 the price of the C2, it was worth a shot. Have had it about a week now, and hubby said it was relatively simple to set up. I get sufficient resistance and really work up a sweat--just like I did with the C2. At 5'7", and being slightly overweight, it is a good workout for 35 minutes and I like that I don't have to drive half an hour one way to get to the gym to row. What I like about the ATS is the fan blows back on me. So far it seems to be a relatively sturdy piece of equipment for home use. I am not having issues with the foot pedals or the chain. I did buy this model because it had a real chain, and not a nylon strap. The seat is no better, or worse, than what I used at the gym on the C2. My butt isn't sore when I'm done rowing.A drawback is the noise: it is not a quiet piece of equipment. I have to really turn the TV up pretty loud to drown it out, but i don't have neighbors and the dog doesn't seem to care.I will be very happy if I can get a year out of it, which is still less than the price of a gym membership that I can't seem to get to. Plus the cheaper gyms around here don't even have a rowing machine--and the "Crossfit" one won't let you touch their rowers unless you're part of their program. If I keep it up, i will replace this with the Concept 2 if it wears out, but I expect this one to be chugging along for a while as i am the only one using it 5-6 days a week for 35 minutes at a time.

Just buy it and get a good workout!
I will give this 5 stars simply because it does what it was designed to do with no issues. I have put a good hard 30 miles on this machine so far. I have experience with rowing machines, including commercial rowers such as the one everyone compares this machine to. I will not compare this machine to a commercial rower, because it is not in the same league and is 1/3 the price.Pros:-This machine is fairly well built and can take a beating, even when going all out with HIIT or Tabata sprints.-This machine is chain driven and retracts no problem, even at high speeds. I almost settled on a machine that was nylon strap driven and I am glad I didn't.-I actually like the display and can see it clearly at all angles. I realize it doesn't display distance in KM, but that does not bother me.-Resistance is variable based on how hard you work. For those that claim it does not have enough resistance, pull faster and harder.-Machine came well packaged and instructions were fairly clear.Cons:-It is noisy, but ALL air resistance rowers are.-The foot rests are adjustable and have straps to secure your feet. I think they could improve the foot rests. At first I had some ankle pain due to awkward angle of the feet, but it disappeared eventually.-Tools that come with it for assembly suck. Use a socket wrench with the right size socket.-The moment you tell people you have this machine they will want to come over and use it!Like any well built rower, this machine will kick your a$$. My home gym has a spin bike, treadmill, and elliptical, yet I find this machine to provide the best all around cardiovascular exercise.

Some Assembly Required, WARNING (See Pic), Factory Seat Fasteners Loosen Quickly
One thing you should keep in mind....this unit is not for commercial use. There were two scary warning postcards in the box-> WARNING THIS EQUIPMENT IS FOR HOME USE ONLY. DO NOT USE FOR COMMERCIAL OR INSTITUTIONAL USE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. Does this mean using this thing aggressively, i.e., several times a day by multiple family members is going to be dangerous? Maybe wearing a helmet is in order. Time will tell.It takes about an hour to assemble. You should also make sure you have some Loctite thread locker. If you don't use thread locker on the bolts and screws, they will quickly work loose. Also, make sure you have a metric socket wrench set. Trying to use the included tools will not allow you to get things tight enough and will take much longer. My unit had several loose fasteners. Check the adjustment bolts/nuts on the seat for tightness. Also, check the seat stops on either end to make sure they are tight after final assembly.Update: My wife has been giving this machine usage of about 20 minutes a day for a month now. This machine seems to be holding up to her usage, but many of the factory installed screws have started falling out. If this manufacturer simply used some thread locker like LOCTITE Blue, I wouldn't be having this problem. All of the seat screws are coming loose. One fell out. I am glad one actually fell out because it served as an alert that the seat was going to eventually come off. Looks like I am going to have to remove the seat sled from the machine to fix this....and also looks like I will need to disassemble the roller assembly on the seat to get to these screws. I am also going to check all of the other factory installed screws, nuts, and bolts thread locking all of them. I am downgrading this to one star due to poor assembly at the factory, the danger of the seat coming loose, and failure to use fasteners that stay fastened. For a few cents worth of Loctite thread locker they could have saved me the misery of having to basically reassemble it twice. If you buy one of these rowers, order some LocTite Blue thread locker from Amazon and apply it to every fastener that does not have a nylon locking insert (locknut).

Quality issues aside, a good exercise
I have had this unit for six weeks, so I thought it would be a good time to write a review after having used it for a significant amount of time. Initially, everything worked great. It was easy to set up, and is easy to move around. The footprint isn't that overwhelming; I can easily have it set up in my basement and leave it there without it being in the way. Since January 1, I have used it every weekday morning for about 20-25 minutes for somewhat intense rowing sessions. The resistance is excellent, and it has given me a very good workout thus far.All that said, there are quality issues with the construction. Ironically, the day I was about to leave this machine a five-star review, the right foot pedal support snapped about four minutes into my morning rowing session. I was able to finish after adjusting the plastic foot holders, but I was noticeably off balance for the remaining 21 minutes of my workout. Furious at the prospect of being without a machine for who-knows-how-long, I left an impulsive one-star review that I have since retracted. The reason I retracted was because of Stamina's customer service. That same morning, I called their customer service line, told them the issue, and immediately they processed an order, free of charge, to send me a replacement part within 3-5 business days. If all works out, and there are no other issues, I will revisit to adjust my rating accordingly. However, for now, I can't justify giving this product more than three stars for breaking six weeks after purchasing.UPDATE: The same foot pedal broke again after five months of 4-5 day-a-week use. Stamina customer service again was great about sending a free replacement part, but I wonder whether it is just a matter of time before something else breaks that can't be easily replaced.

A great at home rower! Well worth the little bit of noise.
This is a great rower for a beginner! It is plenty sturdy and has a chain instead of a nylon strap. I have used high end rowers before, but this one is perfectly fine for my home. It does fold up, but it does not take up much more space with it not being folded. The progress screen is subpar, but my view is as long as my heart rate is up and I am sweating then I'm getting a good workout. It was pretty simple to assemble, but with it being a little on the heavy side it would be much simpler if you had someone to help hold it steady while you put it together. So far I have had this rower for about 2 weeks and love it! I am in a two story townhouse, about 950 sq ft, and I have placed my rower in what would be my dining room off of the kitchen. I did this one, because I opted not to have a full size kitchen table, and two it's a little noisy. I feel having it downstairs where my neighbors do not sleep would be the best option. Other than it being on the noisy side, I am over the moon about it so far!

Stamina 35-1405 ATS Air Rowing Machine
I did A LOT of research on home-use rowers prior to "settling" on the Stamina. I really wanted a Concept 2 (C2) (Gold Standard in my opinion), but not in my budget! If you canโt afford a C2, definitely buy this one-donโt go any cheaper! I read all the reviews about this rower on Amazon. My husband rowed in college and children now in competitive varsity rowing everyday. Husband purchased this rower (This model is actually the 35-1405 ATS) as a 50th birthday gift, to get in me in shape(Iโve been begging for a rowing machine since I'm overweight and have knee and back problems). Purchasing and receiving, we had no issues. Assembly okay, (recommend two people and using your own tools to save your hands if they lack strength). I did need husband's help, tightening it properly is VERY important, based on some issues in others buyers' reviews! Reading the instructions step by step very important-there are some โthrough-boltsโ that need to be moved around during assembly process, and if not done, it could cause trouble with rower functioning properly. Stamina never claims to be a Concept 2! This is a beginners' rower, not for professional rowing. Flywheel hits you with a blast of cool air with each row-you may or may not like this. PROS: Affordable. Slightly more compact than a C2. Can shrink overall length about 1 1/2 feet less when folded, but it does not stand vertical for a closet storage, only horizontal. Adequately sturdy, mostly metal, it is a solid machine. The flywheel is made out of sturdy plastic and is enveloped by a metal cage. Max weight of person using is up to about 250 lbs. Machine lightweight enough to roll around (has front rollers) for storage. It has good leg and arm resistance during a smooth seat glide back and forth. The pulley is made from a bicycle chain, sturdy. Although the display is NOT the one pictured, it is actually BETTER-you can actually see the correct one in the video. CONS: No variable resistance adjustment. No heart monitor. The following 2 cons I believe are because machine is foldable; Display is positioned too low, very hard to read during exercise. I have to stop rowing to read. Pull bar retracts to a low position too, making your extended arms having to go down on the draw, just above display. Recommend watching YouTube video, for proper form. In summary; overall 4.5 out of 5 stars, not for pro athletes-not a Concept 2, but great for home exercise equipment and great for getting in shape! Easy on the wallet, buys you time to save up and get in shape for the gold standard!

Great product and even better customer service
My wife and I have used this machine for about 6 months now and we are very impressed. Very sturdy for the price. rows smoothly and gives a good workout. Was easy to assemble. good looking machine. Even more impressive is customer service. Definitely 5 star there. The other day i turned it on its side to check a rubber foot pad and it got away from me on the slick hardwood floor and it slipped out of my hand and landed on the console holding the rowing handle and housing the computer. Being plastic it broke in two places. I went on line and explained what happened and would be happy to buy another if they were available. I was able to find the part and number on line also so they knew exactly what I was talking about. Next thing I know I got an email thanking me for my purchase and the part was on its way USPS no questions asked. They come packaged in a two pack so they just sent both. Amazing company and product. Will definitely be a customer in the future. Thanks,Dan S

I was a little worried when this arrived with the box looking like it had been dragged behind the delivery truck and then maybe run over by it a few times. It was a mess. In the end nothing appears to be damaged and assembly was a breeze although I am missing two parts both of which seem to be non-essential. I have contacted the manufacturer and hopefully will get replacements because trying to return this thing via Amazon would be a nightmare since there is basically nothing left of the original packaging. In use the machine is decent. It isn't gym quality but that's not what I was expecting at this price. I'm 220 and it is rock solid in use and the seat glides smoothly on the rails. Those aspects are top notch. Where it's lacking is in the smoothness of the resistance. There's nothing wrong with it per se as air rowers go it's just that it doesn't feel as robust as the rest of the machine. The other negative is the built-in computer. It's frankly a joke. Even the timer on my unit isn't accurate so I can only guess the other metrics are at least as unreliable. All that said, for the price I still feel like this unit is a solid value.

I do not recommend this
I'm shipping this item back for a refund. It looks amazing in the photos but the actual item is underwhelming. It's a product made overseas stretching to be more than what it is.Materials are cheap, design is old, features are non-existent.THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT OF ANY KIND ON THE RESISTANCEThis machine will not advance with you as you trainAdvert claims:* 12 level adjustable shock resistance: I found no such adjustment on this anywhere nor in the manual

I bought this after debating for what seemed like forever, between this and the concept 2 and I'm going to get right to the point.. If i HAD the money when I paid for this to buy a concept 2.. I def would have bought the concept 2 knowing what I know now.. either way this rower is still great quality for what it is and for the price.. only problem being the resistance is significantly easier then the C2.. that being said I think if you never tried a C2 rower and/or you're a beginner to rowing, this is a great choice.. also keep in mind I'm 6'0" and felt the front of the rower wasn't quite "ahead" enough for me to bring the handle forward enough in the descent position where the C2 I never encountered that problem!

Good rower for the price
Good rower for the price. The computer display is a little annoying though as it cycles through the different units (meters, calories, watts). I would prefer if the computer just stayed on the unit I select.
