There are some great story arcs here. My favorite was the brood saga. They look like the creature in aliens and the story line is similar in nature. Can the Xmen survive an attack from within. The Claremont run on the Xmen is very well known and deserves its reputation. There are included a graphic novel God loves and man kills and some hard to find mini series like Magik featuring Colusses sister. Too much to describe and you would need to spend a boatload of time and money to find all these issues individually. There seems to be some overlap right now with the days of future past story arc and the Xmen omnibus part 3. So I will review both and keep till corrected. Days of future past is a two issue story arc that deals w the issues of racism and genocide amongst other things. There is more of this in the comics than the movie. There are themes that are similar to events in WW2 if you know what I mean. I give 5 stars on each. I encourage you to check out both. They are very good reads. Review: The X-Men must alter their horrifying future in this classic epic. - I don't know why Marvel made it into a graphic novel but I'm glad they did because "Days of Future Past" is one of the X-Men's landmark stories and it was adapted in a two-part episode in the 1992 X-Men animated series. Oh yeah and the 2014 blockbuster movie "X-Men: Days of Future Past" was based on that story. It opens with "Uncanny X-Men #138" where the X-Men have a funeral for Jean Grey (who die at the end of the events of "The Dark Phoenix Saga") and Cyclops leave the X-Men. Then in "Uncanny X-Men Annual #4", Doctor Strange helps the X-Men save Nightcrawler in another dimension. Then in "Uncanny X-Men #139-140", the X-Men helps Alpha Flight takes on the Wendigo. Then in "Uncanny X-Men #141-142" which features "Days of Future Past", Kitty Pryde from the future travel back into the past and enters young Kitty's body. She told the X-Men about their future being take over by Sentinels after Senator Kelly was assassinated by a mutant and most of the X-Men were killed. So the X-Men must battle Mystique & the Brotherhood of Mutants and alter their horrifying future. It also features a grey-haired Wolverine. Then the story concluded in "Uncanny X-Men #143" where Kitty takes on a demon on Christmas. Classic X-Men epic for all die hard X-Men fans.

Brooding over X-men Days of Future Past
X-men fans, you've got to treat yourselves, a guilty pleasure is in order, trust me. Read this classic Claremont story that the new X-Men film, Days of Future Past, is roughly based on and your appreciation for both the film and the original story-line will blossom. It really gave me renewed faith in the genius' over at Marvel. Their ability to adapt the original story into a feature length film that both complements previous X-men films and leaves the Universe wide open for future adaptations that can go in virtually any direction, is impressive. Now we've just got to convince them to do a film about the X-men battling the Brood.

Great storyline but not a great book
While this volume includes the absolutely great 2-issue Days Of Future Past arc, the other five issues in the volume are quite disjoint, which makes for a somewhat confusing reading experience. However, given that there is no other current trade paperback version containing the Days of Future Past arc, it's worthwhile for those two issues alone. This compilation picks up just after the conclusion of the Dark Phoenix saga and spans Uncanny X-Men #138-143, plus Annual #4. The first ("Elegy") issue features Scott Summers/Cyclops recounting the entire history of the X-Men. This is transitional filler, frankly, and not that interesting whether you are familiar with the earlier stories or not. If you are a Cyclops fan, be aware that this is the only issue in the book where he appears. Things pick up quickly after that. The Annual features a fun stand-alone story centered around Nightcrawler which takes the team to a version of "Dante's Inferno". Then Wolverine heads to Canada for a 2-issue arc, where he meets up with his old friends/foes from Alpha Flight and fights against Wendigo, the enemy he had originally fought (with the Hulk) in his first-ever comic appearance. There is some good Wolverine backstory, including the first mention of Logan as his real name and some classic Wolvie quippiness. (Nightcrawler: Is that your name? Wolverine: Yup. Nightcrawler: You never told us. Wolverine: You never asked.) But nothing in these first issues really prepares you for the swift change of tone to the Days of Future Past story told in issues #141-142. Classically drawn and depicted, the sight of a grim apocalyptic future where only a handful of heroic mutants survive is intense and dramatic. Back in the present day, the "New" Brotherhood of Evil Mutants is led by the newly-introduced shape-shifter Mystique, who quickly becomes a great classic villain. It's all great. But then it's over almost as soon as it began. One almost wishes the creative team had been able to carry on the story for another half-dozen issues a la the Phoenix saga. The final issue of the book is another completely different story, featuring Kitty Pryde. The newest member of the X-Men played a key role in Days of Future Past and had quickly become a favorite. But the issue is still a letdown after the intensity of Days of Future Past. There is no introduction, and the only extras are several covers from "Classic" reprints, which is disappointing compared to the interesting extras found in most Marvel Masterworks compilations.

The film is good, but the book, as they say, the book is so much better.
Forget everything you ever knew about this storyline from the recent film. The film is good, but the book, as they say, the book is so much better. Chris Claremont and John Byrne are at their creative peak, and this storyline is the swansong to their epic run on X-men. It's as grim and gritty as story as any, and its a time travel story done in realistic manner. Byrne is one the best artists ever, Claremont one of the best writers, and this was a wonderful time to read and collect Marvel Comics.

Lengthy collection for a short story.
Days of Future Past was only a 2 issue story and collections in the past only had those two issues. This book actually has 6 issues and picks up right where the Dark Phoenix tpb leaves off. It’s a must read for any X-Men fan.
