Light on Pranayama elaborates on the ancient practice of pranayama. The term, which is loosely translated as ‘life force’, deals with the practice of regulation of one’s breath. There are different types of pranayama, such as Bhastrika, Kapalbhati, and Nadi shodan. Research shows that regular practice of pranayama is beneficial in dealing with asthma as well as stress-related disorders like anxiety and depression. If performed correctly under the right supervision, it can help bring harmony between the body, mind and spirit, making one physically, mentally, and spiritually strong. Light on Pranayama is authored by B. K.S. Iyengar, who is a prime authority in the field of yoga. The book provides guideline for a programme that is spread out over 200 weeks. It requires 15-30 minutes of daily practice on the part of the user. It is well-illustrated, carrying 190 photographs of the front, side, back and top angles of various depictions by Iyengar. There is also a comprehensive glossary section discussing various terms. The book was published by Element in 2005, and is available in paperback. Key Features: The book is well-illustrated, with 190 photos for the benefit of the reader. There is a 33-page section of glossary, explaining various important terms. Review: Must possess asset for a Yogi. - Never expected someone to include very minor details in writing. Such a brief book and practical book on pranayam, gives an experience of being taught orally as someone including every of your query and questions you will face during practice. Very vivid about the types of pranayam, uses and it's adaptability. And somehow good for a beginner who don't have or want any human help. Review: Great book - This an amazing book which provides an in depth understanding about yoga and Pranayam. As the title of the book clearly indicates, this book is dedicated to Pranayam only, but one must have mastered the basic asans before doing Pranayam, this has been clearly mentioned in the book at several places. Therefore it is advisable to first read about the basic asans from the book Light on Yoga which has been authored by Iyengar himself. Reading this book has been an eye opener for me because it goes into so many fine details and nuances of yoga which cannot be learnt without considerable practice. Iyengar is in a different league altogether, none of the so called self proclaimed yoga gurus can measure upto him except Sadhguru. My interest in yoga first grew when I saw videos of Sadhguru on YouTube. Yoga is a wonderful and powerful tool to transform our lives and experience things which we cannot even dream of.

A must have for anyone doing Yoga
Having learnt Pranayama from a couple of different people, I ordered this book out of curiosity. It turned out to be the Pranayam Bible. Unless you're learning from a really really good teacher, there are a whole bunch of things that you will miss out learning because either the teachers don't care or they don't know themselves know or because they are teaching multiple students in a class eg. the book educated me on why my nose gets blocked when I am doing pranayam at certain times. It's because you need to prepare your body before you start doing Pranayam. You can't decide one day to start doing Pranayam and expect your body to respond. I am not one with a strong respiratory system. The book told me I need to strengthen my system with asanas before I do pranayam. I discovered that I needed some regular gymming to strengthen my body since I was unfit and then sit for Pranayam after a few months of exercises. All these pearls of wisdom and much more you will find in this book. A must have if you're practicing or even considering doing Pranayam.

Best book on the science of pranayama
Hand down, this is the best and most authoritative text on the ancient yogic science of breath and life force control ever written. It’s written by the author of one of the most important reference guides to the overall practice of hatha and raja yoga, Light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar.

Classic title, but photo repro could be better
I have the original paperback version from the 1970s which is now falling apart. This offering is a straight copy, page for page, which is what I was looking for. However, while the print is a bit clearer, the photos of Mr Iyengar, which are an important feature of this work, are not so clear as my 1970s copy, as regards contrast and definition. So it's 5 stars for Mr Iyengar's content, but only 3 stars for the quality of reproduction.
