Coleman Event Shelter

Excellent shade structure. This is the second one I have purchased. The first one lasted five years and survived several windstorms. But time in the Arizona heat took its toll on the nylon webbing. One final windstorm did some damage before I could take it down. We liked it so much that we bought another one to replace it. I won't repeat the good points that the company uses to describe it. It's all true. The reason we like it so much is it's unique shape, the interesting ways you can light it at night, and the open welcoming feeling it gives off. One thing, we use 12"x1/4" lag bolts and a battery-operated impact driver to fasten it to the ground, tent stakes pull out too easily.

I bought my first one in Aug 2015 for $163 and this recent one in Aug 2023 for $276. 8 years difference and what with inflation, still a good deal. The 1st is still functional, though a couple of rod’s links have disconnected, but still fully functional. The size is amazing and for covering a tent or seated area, the arcs give much more space than a conventional square canopy. Follow the instructions and it can be assembled in less than 30 min your first time. Terrific product and well made!

I've used this product year after year in one of the most challenging envvironments....the beach. Storms with high winds can come up quickly and leave little time to react. I anchor the tent frame solidly into the sand using four corkscrew tie-downs and make sure each leg is weighted with special sand bags. The canopy curve lets the wind move through and over the shelter easily. We typically remove the cover and store overnight, but leave the frame on the beach. The cover is easy to remove, but may require someone taller to reach some of the velcro closures. The powder coating on the frame parts protects them from the corrosive salt air. Keep in mind the any scratch on frame parts left untreated will end up rusty. We treat the frame parts that have any exposed base metal with navel jelly before storing for the season. The frame is easy to assemble and erect. At least two people make it much easier to erect, but can be done by one(not recommended). Be sure to use the squaring accessory to lay out the frame before you start assembly. This is vital!!

This is an awesome tent to have. It is very well built and sturdy. High quality Coleman materials as well. BUT, it is VERY difficult and time consuming to set up. There are a lot of parts and it wants to fall all over the place until you get the last part of the frame set up. Once the fabric is in place, it is a really cool and very large tent to have. If you are intending on setting up and tearing down very often, consider the time it will take to do so. Another thing, is this ships from the U.K. We waited almost a month for its delivery, and when we returned it, it took almost longer to get all the way back to England and get the refund. No problems at all with the seller, or Amazon, just consider the time involved.

We had an earlier version (turquoise and white) of this outdoor shelter that we have used when we camp for the past 3-4 years. It has been perfect for shedding water and providing shade. It is wind resistant due to the dome-style construction. Every time we set it up at a campground, someone asked where we got it. When we started to look for a replacement (we have used it a lot), we found that Coleman no longer made that version. After MUCH searching, we found this one -- but had to order it through Amazon from Great Britain as it was not available otherwise. It is similar in size and construction, only obvious difference we believe is the color. Order if it is available -- you will not be disappointed.

I almost didn't buy due to the reviews. If you have common sense it shouldn't be that hard at all. I put it up by myself in 20 mph sustained wind. Make sure you have the sides and the correct order before you assemble them. Connect one corner of the tarp and then let the wind do the work. Extremely well made. Bought the XL and it has a ton of room.

The poles snapped while putting up the tent at the beach during a normal breezy day. Didn't even last us a week. I'm very disappointed. It went right in the trash where is belongs because who wants to pack up a super heavy and bulky, broken tent and take it home. I get home and find out that both Amazon and the $60 Assurion protection plan wanted me to. There is no way to get a refund or replacement without mailing this giant busted tent back to them. So now I am out $290 for the tent, $60 for a worthless "protection plan", and I don't even have a tent for my next trip to the beach. What a disappointment. We have bought this tent several times over the last 10 years and they usually last 2-3 years before they start to breakdown. This one lasted 4 DAYS!!! 10 out of 10 would NOT recommend.

Great for soccer games, day trips to the lake, etc.

I bought this on offer in the sales and have now used and tested it in some challenging conditions. We used it with 2 plain and 2 window/door side panels so it was enclosed. We experienced periods of persistent rain, heavy downpours, wind gusts up to 39 mph and even some sunny periods. I would say this is outside the normal use for a gazebo so I don't really consider the issues to reflect too negatively on this, more an idea of what you can expect if you too decide to go camping in crazy weather with it The size (L) There were 3 of us using it as a sheltered living and cooking space for 3 days and found it plenty big enough with room to spare. Rain handling During the downpours we would get drips coming down from the corners of the square ventilation section in the middle of the roof, it was only a minor annoyance to us but does mean you can't have a table or anything you need to keep dry in the very middle of the gazebo. That was the only place the gazebo itself let water in. Wind handling It stood up to the wind amazingly well. While other people were chasing parts of theirs across the field and tents were collapsing, we were snug and confident in this gazebo. I think the combination of the shape, the 4 peg holes per foot and 8 guy lines make this the strongest most stable gazebo I've ever seen. This was the reason I bought this gazebo and I'm glad I did. Sun handling It was very good as a shelter from the sun. Light but not too bright, cool and airy, thanks to the light colour and large ventilation panel I think. While the tent got hot and stuffy in the humid sunshine the gazebo remained comfortable even with the sides attached. Assembly I set it up on my own and it was challenging. Unless you are tall and strong I would say this really is a 2 person job. On your own there is some potential risk of damaging the poles if you're unlucky or not careful. Side note About the side panels, I would not recommend the plain ones. The windowed door panels have curtains, are built better with peg points along the bottom, and cost almost the same. The plain ones lack the peg points and billow and flap alarmingly and annoyingly in the wind. Summary If you want a gazebo that is cool and comfortable in the hot sun, can easily handle strong wind, and reasonably good in heavy rain, this is the perfect gazebo for you. I have no regrets and would definitely buy again.

I use this for 6 days from 30th July to 4th August for an event on 2nd August. The weather was good on all days except 2nd August when it rained for most of the morning, thus giving me the chance to experience any water resistant property of the shelter. Strangely enough there was no leakage but on checking in the morning of 3rd August there was condensation on the inside of the canopy, which was easily wiped off. I put this down to the fact that it had rained the previous day, I did not use a ground sheet and water would have been able to seep through on the grass due to a very slight incline of the ground. Other than that it did exactly the job it was bought for - to give protection to about 20 people from any rain and temperature drop in the evening. I have now bought the groundsheet and hope this will resolve the condensation issue, though that will have to wait until next year now. I had already bought two 'door and 2 sidewall panels which were used on 2nd August to very good effect. The event shelter provided the solution to the suitable cover and protection for around 20 people, which in previous years events had caused problems. I had looked at possibly buying a large tent to remedy matters but that would have cost over 3 times the price and been far more awkward to store. The parts fold-up very easily and neatly and go back in to the supplied bag, which occupies a relatively small space in the corner of my shed. I sprayed the joints and inside of the poles with WD40 to give some protection from any damp that may have crept in, however I will not know how well this has worked until I use it/open it up next year. There is one down side. The instructions for erecting the shelter are attached on the inside of the carry bag and leave quite a lot to be desired. The clarity of the 'picture only' instructions are easily misinterpreted and the importance of properly aligning the leg poles before setting-up and fixing with tent pegs could readily be missed. I suspect some of those who have complained about bent or broken poles may well have fallen foul of this lack of clarity. Luckily I took the construction process slowly and methodically - I won't pretend I got it right at first attempt - and arrived at a stable (surprisingly very stable) structure. I did try the construction first without putting the canopy on, which enabled me to make better sense of the instructions. I note that the time to construct quickly seems to be held out as a virtue. I would suggest that this process is not treated as a 'race against time', but take the time to familiarise yourself with the parts and the proper construction and get at least another person to help you. I could have put this all together on my own, though preferred the extra help and advice in making sure it was being put up correctly. Hopefully none of this is taken as being negative comment as I think the concept and product are excellent - more thought to the instruction though - please.

Very pleased with the quality of gazebo. Brought it to a festival and ended up having very windy and rainy first few days. However, it outlasted many surrounding gazebos that broke due to weather. It is quite lightweight, so we ordered heavy duty pegs for it to ensure it doesn’t blow away, but had no other issues. While it’s noted to provide light rain protection, it protected us from heavy downpours, highly recommend it.

Fab, easy to put up and dismantle, sturdy and strong, eye catching design, love it.
